10. How To Find Magic, Meaning, and Momentum Every Day
6 Feb 2025 · 9 min
In this solo motivational monologue, Tony Suriano urges listeners to transform each day into a meaningful, magical experience by deliberately cultivating four core habits: gratitude, personal growth, social connection, and intentional future‑oriented thinking. He opens with a vivid metaphor comparing a dull, disengaged day to missing the best movie, then outlines a research‑backed claim that daily gratitude (citing Dr. Robert Emmons) can boost happiness by 25%. He expands the model, arguing that adding daily growth (learning or achievement) adds another 25%, and purposeful social interaction contributes a further 25%, together reaching roughly 75% happiness. The remaining 25% is left to the individual’s own intentional actions and a compelling vision of the future, which fuels momentum and lifts mood. Throughout, Suriano blends personal anecdotes, rhetorical questions, and vivid imagery to motivate listeners to set intentions, embrace a “bird’s‑eye” perspective, and actively direct their lives toward a fulfilling, miracle‑filled existence.

My wife says this intro sounds like a conspiracy mystery. So I'll stop that voice and tell you, this show is for you to get you on the track you want for your life. I'm going to share encouraging educational content, hopefully entertaining, that will help you direct your life. Today's episode is brought to you by peace. You got to have peace, right? But you also have to plan and have intentions in your day. And I know your day can be magic. I know that you can make the day meaningful, even if it's off to a terrible start. It's up to you to decide. And I'm gonna share a few things that can get you happier and push that meaning in your life because— A day that's dull without meaning is like buying the best movie ticket to the best movie and staying in the bathroom scrolling your phone throughout the whole movie, inhaling the stink. Who wants to do that? You miss out on the story, the connection. You miss out on the magic. And then you wonder, why did I even come here in the first place? And you don't want to feel like that. You don't want to think like that. So what are you going to think? You're going to think, I showed up for a reason. And if you can't think of a reason, you have to brainstorm harder and make one up. Because the reason you give, you yourself is the reason you'll get. A man thinks what he is, he is. What he isn't, he isn't. So what can you do to get in a better mood today? There's a study— throw some stats at you. There's a study that shows those who practice gratefulness, gratitude daily— you've heard it before— it reports a 25% increase in happiness levels. This study comes from Dr. Robert Emmons, a leading researcher on gratitude. And the cool thing about this is really what's happening is you're just focusing more on what's good in life so you can significantly boost your mood and overall outlook. So I think about that as being micro versus macro. So imagine you have the bird's-eye view and you look at the overview of life, this miracle you have, this gift you're given, the heart That you didn't even earn, but you just have. So use it. Please use it because you will lose it. And then you wake up at the end wondering, what was it all for? And you wish you had a second chance, right? But guess what? Today you have the second chance. This is it. So choose to move forward with great intentions for your day. So gratitude, 25%. Let's see if we can get to 75%. Have you ever learned something new or grew in some way or accomplished something that was pretty hard and you just feel proud? You also feel happier. Your mood is also lifted. It is so true that growth equals progress. And progress equals happiness. So if you connect something every day, even if it's small, a little bit of growth in your life, a little bit of gratitude, you got to be around 50% happier. Come on, let's be real. And then let's add in social connection. We all know when we have a good laugh with a friend, we just are that much happier. Life feels a little more connected. A little easier. So don't isolate like I used to. Don't shut people off like I used to. Open yourself up, share, laugh, connect with people, good people, like I do now and have for the last many years, and change your day and make every day Gratitude, growth, and connection, and you'll probably be at 75% happiness. And the last 25% up is just up to you. Because think about where you're at when you're in gratitude, in growth, and you're connected. You're more likely to do those extra little things to get you closer to 100%. Your day is not going to be 100% perfect. But man, you can get close. If you really want it, you can get close to having a great day every day. Sure, you'll have some downs, but if you practice focusing on the good, practice getting the bird's-eye view, you will do great things. You will have great days, and you will feel that magic. You will not miss out on the greatest movie of all— life. It's a miracle. And you are too? Hear the question mark? Do you think you're a miracle? I know you are, but what do you think? These are important questions. And, uh, my day yesterday, I didn't feel it. I didn't feel like I accomplished enough. Did I grow enough? I mean, I did 50% of what I said I'd do. And then guess what? I almost went to bed kind of feeling dull and thinking, ah, what did I do today? Why did I even show up? Hmm, I can go to sleep or I can do the best thing I know and remind myself of a compelling future that gives me just enough energy To get that other goal finished, which is record this for you. And you were that future. You were the compelling future because you might need to hear this today. And that's pretty cool. Because I know I listen to people, I hear my mentors, and I need to hear them on that day. And I'm so happy that they pushed and they thought and they reminded themselves of their compelling future so they could follow through. Like I'm doing right now, and I'm here right now. It's your morning, it's your day, it's your night, and it's yours. So own it, be grateful, and find something that can grow yourself. Find a way to connect, because it's truly a miracle. And right now, while I record this, it's actually night for me. I've started to channel the peace so I can sleep well, so I feel that tomorrow is going to be the best day of my life, because truly it's going to be the only day. Because all we have is the moment now. But the funny thing is, if you think a little bit in the future and you have a compelling future, It gets you to live in the moment even stronger. I know that's a little abstract, but stop and think about that. Set intentions. Set it now. You still have time. Gratitude, growth, connection, future. Set a compelling future for yourself now. Gain more happiness, lift the mood, because your philosophy changes your attitudes. It dictates your actions and your decisions, and that dictates your life. What's it going to be? Will you experience and watch the greatest film ever made called your life? Will you filter in all the good that's around you, the miracles that are around you, set good intentions, be grateful? Or are you gonna be stuck in the bathroom scrolling on that phone, sniffing the stink? You deserve a meaningful day today. And if it helps, think about that future. Get the compelling thoughts. Think about the fun you can have if you just push on and find the good. Do it now. Start directing your life and be free. If this stuff is good, if you love to hear these messages and you know someone that wants to hear it or should or needs to, please send them this episode. Give them some peace. Give them some inspiration to make today meaningful. I really appreciate you being here, and I really enjoy sharing these insights, the lessons I've learned, the things that help motivate myself. I say this to you, but I say it directly back to me. Thank you so much.
