Tanner Smith breaks down a daily 2-hour marketing routine for contractors with time but no budget: 30 minutes networking with referral partners, 20 minutes posting from job sites, 30 minutes door-knocking with flyers, and 40 minutes creating local content. Do this consistently for a few months and paid lead campaigns work better later.

Here's the best advice I can give to a brand new home service business owner or contractor that's trying to grow and scale the business. It's that if you don't have leads, you don't have a business. So here's some advice on how to generate more leads than you know what to do with. First, recognize that there are 2 ways to generate leads. Option A, you can pay for them. Option B, you can earn them. So if you've got more time than money, you should be focused on earning them initially. If you have more money than time, you should be focused on paying for them. Now, for those of you that might have more money than time and you don't want to have to worry about earning them, that's a whole separate video for another time. I'm gonna be focused on the people that actually just want to earn them and figure out how to get leads without paying for anything. Here's exactly what it looks like. I call it the 2-hour marketing block. What you're gonna do is you spend every day 30 minutes networking. You're gonna send 3 to 5 intros or follow-ups to referral partners. Text these people and solve a real problem and figure out someone that has the exact customers that you already are looking for. 20 minutes, go on social and post from today's job site. Take pictures from your jobs and then give a little context. A little bit here is gonna build momentum. 30 minutes for every single job you're doing, go to the neighborhood and knock the 5 doors that are surrounding the job site. Go drop some hangers around and figure out how you can get more leads. 40 minutes, work on some content. So go figure out an article or video for your website, go create some ads, whatever you need to do here. Take 40 minutes to actually build specific content solving a specific need in your area. Now I know it sounds crazy, but just 2 hours a day for a couple of months, being disciplined to actually do this work is going to set you apart and generate you leads organically. Some of you will be willing to do this, some of you won't. But regardless, there's the formula, and here's the real takeaway. If you actually have this foundation and the habits in place, when you go to actually spend money to pay for leads, it's gonna be that much more effective. Give me a follow, and I'll see you in the next video.
