Boosting ads without first building your own digital assets like a website or email list is pointless. The speaker compares it to pouring water into a leaky can: traffic just disappears if you have nowhere to keep it. You need your own platforms before you can advertise effectively.
This is the reason why I hate boosted ads on social media. If you're boosting ads, you're losing money and your ads will not work for you long term. A lot of people get it backwards. They think I need to start to acquire customers before I go and build my digital real estate. It'd be like if I'm trying to contain this liquid in a can and there's holes poked all through it, right? Little by little, that liquid is going to fall out of the can. So we need a can or a place where we can put the traffic in and it will be contained. Very, very difficult, near impossible to become a proficient advertiser if you don't have the assets first.
