Ad Roulette #8: Brain Trust Legal Group, Skytale Digital, Dom Carney

Vince Reed reviews paid social ads using a framework focused on muted-feed clarity, creative signals, and mobile landing pages. Brain Trust Legal Group fails on messaging and landing page alignment. Skytale Digital wins with clear targeting and mobile optimization. Dom Carney's Amazon pitch lacks a border and direct call-to-action for the free ebook.

I don't even need to say anything else. This is built great for mobile. It's showing me exactly what he said he's going to show me in the video. I'm sure this ad is probably converting well. So it's a 31 minute documentary. Interesting.
Never seen quite that setup.
What's going on? Vince Reed here and welcome to add the roulette where we break down ads and we break down funnels following a very specific framework that you should see on the screen right now. Now here's the cool part. As we start scrolling through the newsfeed, as you should know, every third or fourth post is an ad, which means we have a lot of ammunition to choose from. You get to see how I grade the ads. I'm either gonna give it a thumbs up or thumbs down based on my framework. And then we're gonna look at the website and we're gonna follow the framework. I'm gonna give the funnel a thumbs up or thumbs down. But here's what I need from you. I need your feedback. I wanna know if you would grade these funnels and these ads the same way that I would. With that being said, let's get to critiquing. Drum roll please. All right, let's see what we got here. What we got here? All right, so we have Brain Trust legal group. First thing I want to do is check out the messaging. Alright, so I'm looking at the image. Remember when the image or the video appears in the newsfeed, it's going to be muted, right? So I have no idea what she's saying at this point. To me it's just some lady talking with a bunch of text on the screen. Remember, we always have to assume that no one knows who you are. No one understands or knows what the ad is about. So here you can see Jacqueline Britel, I'm assuming in her space, know who she is because they've circled her name, hear her speak at BLG 2023 Summit Nashville. Okay, so let's go ahead and look at the copy lawyers. Billion dollar law firm owners use this same tactic, okay, to explore their growth. So clearly this is some sort of event for lawyers. Okay, so if I go back up to the top, the one thing I want to do here is again assume no one knows who this is because obviously I'm not a lawyer, but this ad is serving to me. There'd be no benefit for me to go there. Right, because I'm not a lawyer. But if I were a lawyer, I think something that would help Me understand what's going on is some type of headline on this actual video. All right, so let's go ahead and play the video and see what the messaging on the video says.
Law school doesn't teach us anything about marketing ourselves or about building a practice and running a business. It doesn't teach those things. And so it's important as lawyers, if we want to provide a practice that really offers a great product to our clients, that we learn those skills on our own. Unfortunately, law school doesn't teach us anything about marketing ourselves or about building a practice and running a business. It doesn't teach those things.
All right, so really clear. I think the messaging is clear. I mean, what the video is saying. Again, remember, it's going to be muted when you first see it. So you have to hit play. If I don't know her, then I'm probably just scrolling through. I think if we add a border, that would definitely improve the ad. So the copy is pretty clear. Because I'm assuming that if you looked at the title of the actual page, you could pretty much assume. And obviously, if you're looking at the copy, it's calling out lawyers, it's telling me exactly what I'm gonna do. So out of the framework, I think it hit two of the three points. But specifically, I think I'm gonna have to give it a thumbs down because I think this is the type of ad that could easily get scrolled by, again, because it would be muted. It's not saying who it's for, and, you know, it could be missed. Let's go ahead and click on the get offer button. All right, so let's take a look at the website. All right, so number one, first thing I see here is that it looks to me like it's just the law firm's website. I didn't get the feel like I was landing, you know, on a page to get me registered for this event. But again, you know, it's really all about mobile. That's really what we care about the most because, you know, 97% of traffic is going to land on the mobile version. So let's go ahead and check out the mobile version of the site. All right, so as I take a look at the mobile version. All right, so there's a disconnect between Darrel Isaac and the ad. But I'm going to make the assumption that people know who the young lady was on the ad. And obviously people probably know who this is. I'm not a lawyer. This ad was served to me, even though probably shouldn't have. But again, we always want to make these. We want to make sure that we capture what's going on inside the prospect's mind. I would try to get this main headline to three lines. 2023, how to build and grow a Billion Dollar law firm. Even though I didn't see this on the ad, I would love to see this, for example, as the header on the ad. I would get that. The three lines and here there's just a lot of copy, right? I mean if you have to force your eyes to read, specifically on mobile, there's too much copy. I think you should just have the date, but with maybe an arrow or something pointing down to the button now, the Register now button. When I saw the ad, right, I was assuming this was a live event that I was physically going to have to attend. When I see Register now, it makes me feel. And this again is from the digital marketing world that I'm registering for a virtual event. So let's see what happens here. So go ahead and click on Register now. My assumption is correct. They're selling tickets for a live event. Okay. So you can see the prices there. All right, so if you go back to the actual, the landing page, okay, what I would probably do is put get your Buy buy Buy now or get tickets or something like that versus Register Now. So when people click here, they're actually ready to, you know, to purchase. But other than that, I would shorten up this to make it three lines. I would get a little bit clearer. If your eyes have to physically force you to read, you can't look at this copy and just know the date or know the time or know you have to, you know, physically take your eyes and read it. I would shorten this, try to get it to two lines and I would change this to Buy Now. Okay? So because of those reasons, they didn't follow my framework from a landing page perspective, which is having a clear headline, clear creative and a mobile friendly site. And you could argue depending on where this is, that this could cause a lot of confusion which could affect sales. So for those reasons, I'm gonna give it a thumbs down. With that being said, you know, what do you think? Did they follow the framework? Would you upgraded this the exact same way? You let me know in the comments. But, but with that being said, let's move on to the next one. Drum roll please. What we got next here? What we got next? Skytail Digital. Get more restaurant guests. All right, so very clear. Let's go ahead and take a listen to the ad, they just want to take your money.
They want to show you that your business was exposed in front of a couple hundred or a couple thousand people and ultimately how many likes and followers you got. But as you know, that doesn't pay the bills for you. You need actual sales, actual profit, and actual statistics that matter.
Real clear, real clear message on the video. Real clear who this is targeting restaurants. Let's go ahead and take a look at the copy. There are people living within one mile of your restaurant who would fit, who would fall in love with your food on first tape. All you need to do is get in front of them. Okay, so it's very clear who this, who these guys are targeting. They're targeting restaurant owners and they want to get more people into the restaurant. I like it. So when you take a look at the messaging, very clear message. Go ahead and go back to the top. Had the border who it was targeting. The creator was clever. You know, a lot of B roll. You have the, you know, the text. So you're catching people and it's explaining what's going on. Even if they don't have the sound on. I think that's good. Then the video quality of the ad was strong. The copy is strong. You're calling out your ideal client. I'm going to give this ad a thumbs up. A thumbs up on this ad. All right, so you let me know. Let's go ahead and take a look at the website. Go ahead and click on. Watch more. All right, so real clear website, easy to understand. Capturing what's going on inside the prospect's mind. This is all great, but again, what I focus on the most is the mobile version because that's where all the traffic comes from. Let's take a look at the mobile version. All right, so let's see. Double your restaurant guest and 3x order value. All right, so number one, I think that if this is the kind of route you're going, that's your offer or your unique selling proposition. You might want to think about putting that on the front end on the ad. I want to go to your restaurant, watch this free documentary, then schedule a call. Okay, so it's a 31 minute documentary. Interesting.
Never seen quite that. That setup. And then you've got the button here. The one thing that I would change as I look at this is there's a lot going on here and the color. I know that this is a big screen, you know, maybe make that a little bit easier to read. But book a call to increase your restaurant cash flow. Guarantees. I would try to either shrink that down to at least two lines, preferably one. You know, it could be something like increase cash flow. Then maybe a sub headline, guaranteed results. Click here. Something like that. You know, tell them what you want them to. So it is possible. I know, it's crazy. People might not even realize that's a button. All right, so make sure that it's very clear of the action that you want them to do there. Go ahead and click that. I'm assuming that's going to take you to the calendar. The one thing I can say that's really strong with this, it's really clear. I love the documentary touch. You know, obviously we don't have to have time here to watch the entire thing, but I'm assuming you did your thing and explained why there's benefits to your agency. So how many locations do you have? They got the little survey there. Assuming that the documentary was interesting and it could hold the attention and give them a reason to want to book with you. I'm going to give this funnel from a mobile perspective a thumbs up. It followed the framework. I mean, the headline was clear, the creative and the copy was clear and it was mobile friendly. Everything was above the fold. Thumbs up. Good job. It's clear how I actually judged this funnel, but the question is, how would you judge it? Did you agree with my assessment of this funnel? Let me know in the comments. And with that being said, we're on to the next. Drum roll, please. What we got? What we got? What's next? All right, so Dom Carney. All right, so messaging. First thing I'm looking at. So the first thing I notice, there's no border. So if I don't know who this is and I'm not smart enough to look at the image of the video kind of scrolling to realize that this is something to do with an online business and Amazon and Shopify. I could potentially scroll by and lose the benefit of learning what this individual is going to share with me. But let's go ahead, hit the. I want to hear the audio of this ad to see if that helps the messaging a little bit. So let's go ahead and play it.
Here are 10,000 reasons why you should not use Shopify.
Ads.
You got to spend a ton of money on ads. So do not use Shopify. You have to build websites and use a bunch of crazy technical skills. All right? You have to use Chinese suppliers like Alibaba or Aliexpress, but with Amazon, you don't. Also, it's the most trusted website in the world. Okay. It's super, super easy because they've already done all this stuff for you. But the Coolest thing is 50% of all of Amazon sales goes to third party sellers, just like you and I. So how do you become a third party seller? I want to show you how. So click the button below right now. I'll give you a free ebook on exactly how to become a seller on Amazon. Let's go.
I actually really like this ad. Strong, strong job with the ad. And it's clear from the visuals on the board. It's also clear with the text rolling through everything that he's saying. So even though there's no clear border, like I would have probably had something about, you know, learn how to sell on Amazon free ebook reveals it all or something like that there. Or maybe like name the ebook something like the Amazon Bible for selling online or something like that. I might have that up top. Let's go ahead and take a look at the copy. Okay, so if I'm looking at the copy, sick of working for someone else in a 9 to 5 because this is clearly going after someone just looking to make more money online, but it's really no reference right away to the actual ebook of what I'm getting. Right? So because the ad was so strong about this ebook that's going to teach it, I would have had that in the copy as well. So let's go ahead and scroll back up. So because I would say that the copy is going after a business, someone looking to make money, it's not clearly telling me immediately what I'm gonna get by clicking it. I'm gonna give this ad a thumbs neutral actually, because I think that if there was clear of in the copy what they were gonna get, like it's clear in the video. And then maybe if they had, if it had a border again mentioning something about the ebook and the benefits of getting it, it would be a strong thumbs up and you would not risk potentially losing people to just scroll by not understanding the benefits of what you have here. So go ahead and click on, on the Learn More button. All right, so really clear ultimate guide to starting Amazon business. You got a picture of the ebook and a form to opt in. You know, I might have just a button with the form that pops versus having this long extended opt in form. But let's take a look at how it looks on mobile because that's really the most important version. So go ahead and check that out real quick. All right, so this is really strong. Get your hands on the ultimate guide to starting an Amazon Business with zero Risk. No websites, no supplier. You got a picture of the ebook and an opt in form to get it. I don't even need to say anything else. This is built great for mobile. It's showing me exactly what he said he's gonna show me in the video. I'm sure this ad is probably converting well and if you are, if you're watching this creator, let me know. I could pretty much guess and see. This is really strong. You know, maybe you could change up the headline into two separate things. Make, maybe make a larger headline with a smaller subhead. But other than that I think it's extremely strong. Thumbs up. It followed all the points, the headline, the creative and obviously the button above the fold. And it's built for mobile. Strong, strong funnel. But it's not what I think, it's what you think. How would you have graded this funnel? Would you have given it a thumbs up? Would you have given it a thumbs down? Let me know in the comments below. Alright, so we made it through it. We broke down three ads, we broke down three funnels, we followed the frameworks. We saw relatively good ads, great messaging, great content, great creatives. They're actually getting a lot better. You let me know what you thought in the comments. With that being said, I think a lot of these individuals will get much better results if they are leveraging the EBOOV platform. What's eboov? It's entrepreneur, Business owner, Online video. It's my company. It will allow you to get 200% more leads, 51 times faster sales, help you with retargeting and most importantly help you get rid of the Brick Wall page. What's the Brick Wall page? It's the one page website that you put in front of your webinars or your VSL. It blocks like 80% of your traffic. EBOOV will help you eliminate that front door, get more leads and more sales. But more importantly, there's a secret feature inside of EBOO that makes marketing just unfair. Unfair for you advertisers, unfair for you funnel builders. Make sure you check on that link in the description to check it out. And with that being said, I'll see you on the next one later.
