In this instructional video, the presenter demonstrates a step‑by‑step process for analyzing local SEO competition for specific keywords. Using tools such as Majestic SEO, Open Site Explorer, and Google’s allintitle search, the tutorial shows how to evaluate domain authority (DA) and page authority (PA) thresholds (aiming for values under 30), examine backlink profiles (press releases, Yellow Pages, EDU links), and interpret Trust Flow (TF) and Citation Flow (CF) ratios (ideally a 1:1 balance) as indicators of a site’s SEO quality. The presenter also explains how to assess the number of allintitle results to gauge keyword difficulty, recommending long‑tail, low‑competition terms (e.g., “ear surgery otoplasty Chicago”) and advising learners to rank keywords by easiness, prioritize the easiest first, and then build and optimize their site accordingly. The example keyword “plastic surgery Chicago” is used throughout to illustrate each metric and decision point.

Hey, what's up guys? This is the next video in the SEO for Businesses course. In this video, I'll be going over competition analysis and how to analyze the competition for certain keywords in the local niche. And I just want to make a quick note that the process is almost the same as the competition analysis video in the keyword research mod— in the keyword research course as well. So if you have that and you watch that, this may be repetitive for you. If not, feel free to watch it again and revise your information. So technique, uh, this is what we'll be using: Majestic SEO, Open Site Explorer, all-in-title Google search. And then we'll ask ourselves, are authority sites ranking on the first page? Backlink analysis and anchor text ratio. So if that doesn't mean much to you right now, it's okay. But by the end of this video, it will, and it will make all sense, make total sense to you. So over the shoulder. So let's go back to Google here, and I've been using the the term plastic surgeon Chicago or plastic surgery Chicago for this module, for this course. So continue to do the same. So plastic surgery Chicago. I can't spell today. But you want to scroll down to the actual results, not the Google Local results. And just click on the first one and copy this URL and head on over to opensiteexplorer.org and paste it. Search. Alright, so as you can see, it has a domain authority of 25, page authority of 36, and I'm just gonna see Take a quick glance at the inbound links before it loads. Alright, here it's taking a while, but you know, it will happen. But again, as far as domain authority and page authority go, you want to have both of these under 30 because anything under 30 for both of them is fairly easy to beat. As you can see, the page authority is 36 for this, and plastic surgery is a very competitive term in general. So, um, I guess you could still go for it and it's still possible to beat it. It's not that hard. It's only 6 points above 30, so don't worry about it too much. So continuing on, if you want, if you take a look at the inbound links through Open Site Explorer, you can see that half these are press releases and Yellow Pages links. Nothing really out of the box or like private blog network. There's one EDU link which is really good and from Northwestern as well. So if you look at the backlinks and the most high-power links are all press releases and Yellow Pages, and those are really easy links to get. So it's not— so, so far so good. It all looks good. Next thing we need to do is head on over to Majestic and copy and paste the same link in here. Trust Flow and Citation Flow are really good in this. If this— if the company hired an SEO to do their stuff to rank them on Google, he's obviously doing a really good job because Trust Flow and Citation Flow are both above 10. And they're both really close to a 1:1 ratio, which is awesome. And their anchor text is really good as well. It's really diversified. There's no, uh, they're not just targeting the keyword, they're targeting URLs and other generic, and then the name of the doctor. So this site has been SEO'd really well and It's still a viable keyword term, but as I said before, this will take time. You should go for the long-tail keywords that you outlined in the previous video before you start actively spending time and money on this. So let's go ahead on over to the PowerPoint slide again. You want to do the allintitle: Google search as well, so you head on back and you put allintitle: plastic surgery Chicago and let it load. Around 10,200 results. For local, I would prefer that there's less than 5,000 results. So this is obviously double, but if you do something like Which is the ear surgery that we saw earlier. The we— there's no results for it, so it's really that easy, guys. Oh, that's why, because I misspelled it. Whoops. 125 results for ear surgery or otoplasty Chicago, then this will be really, really easy to rank for. So see what I mean, guys? Go for these long-tail keywords that not many SEOs are actively going for and see where it takes you. You'll easily rank for them. Authority sites on first page. If you go back to plastic surgery, You will see that most of these, except like Yelp, they are all like sites of doctors, which is understandable. And it's, it's a good sign if you have a lot of authority sites on the first page because that means they're not fully optimized for it. But when you have sites that are like optimized for plastic surgery Chicago, it's obviously going to be a little harder. Backlink analysis and anchor text ratio I just covered through Majestic, so that doesn't need to be covered again. So that's it for this video, guys. You just want to shortlist all these keywords and rank them in order of easiness to rank. So the easy stuff on top, the hardest stuff on bottom, using whatever I've taught you right here. And then go work your way top to bottom and building your site and ranking them. That's it for this video, guys. See you in the next one.
