Will Richardson shows how British Columbia's 1996 infrastructure decisions now power BC Place with 95% renewable electricity and 26 transit stops within a ten-minute walk. He asks whether today's leaders are making choices future generations will thank them for.
The lesson is simple: the climate decisions that pay off in 2026 were made in '96. British Columbia generates roughly 95% of its power from renewable sources, mostly hydropower. Every match at BC Place is essentially running on clean energy. BC Place has 26 public transport stops within a 10-minute walk. Most fans arrive by SkyBus, SkyTrain, or bus. That single design decision eliminates the vehicle trips and parking sprawl that the decisions that pay off in 2056 are being made today. Are we making the ones that future leaders will be glad we made?
