TikTok is planning the takedown of one of the biggest companies in the world. TikTok recently announced plans for development of US-based fulfillment centers. For those of you that don't know, a fulfillment center is where products are prepared, packaged, and shipped out before they arrive at the consumer's home. Most brands use some sort of fulfillment center to handle all of their shipping and handling. TikTok has just decided that they will be building these fulfillment centers in order to be able to compete with Amazon in the US. So in today's video, we're going to take a look into all of their plans. We're going to look at how profitable this might actually be for TikTok, how disastrous this could be for Amazon, and if we should expect any sort of rivalry between the two companies. It's really likely that these two companies are not going to give each other a chance and will both be trying to beat each other out of this market, which is going to be incredibly interesting. And there are some ways that you can capitalize on this as well, so stay tuned. I'll be going through those Towards the end of the video, TikTok is allegedly constructing its own US-based fulfillment centers. Positions at global fulfillment centers in Seattle and Los Angeles have already been listed on LinkedIn. The job descriptions emphasize the company's focus on plans to develop an online shopping system. E-commerce has experienced rapid expansion over the last decade, and the top internet companies in the world are all competing in the space. With millions of devoted fans and users, we think TikTok is positioned incredibly well to absorb a lot of this market share. So they undoubtedly have quite a large advantage over some of their competitors. But the question is, what is their actual plan? TikTok plans to offer merchants warehousing, delivery, and returns. And you might have also noticed that TikTok has been adding a suite of e-commerce-related services to their platform. One of the more notable tools allows businesses to set up Shopify-connected stores. According to some job postings, TikTok is looking for someone that can plan out the moving of products between warehouses and businesses. While this is exciting news, let's take a quick look at Meta, one of TikTok's top competitors in the space. According to Insider Intelligence, Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, dominates the $37 billion social commerce market in the US. The Beijing-based company ByteDance, which owns TikTok, is also dominating in China with Douyuan. I believe I'm saying that correctly. But that is their Chinese version of the video sharing platform. And now according to Insider Intelligence, 23.7 million Americans are expected to make a purchase using TikTok this year alone. TikTok said last summer that they would be collaborating with Shopify to allow on-app purchases in TikTok. It seems like TikTok has a bit of an advantage. We all know that TikTok has a sizable viewership and client base. So it's definitely a viable option for them to be moving into this market. As TikTok and Shopify continue to collaborate and release plans for online shopping platforms, it threatens Amazon's core business model and existence. It's possible that in 10 years to come, Amazon no longer exists. If Amazon wants to compete in this shopping revolution, they are going to have to switch from a tech-centric, SEO-based system to an algorithm that is based more on discovery like TikTok. So it's going to get a lot harder for Amazon if people spend all of their time consuming content on TikTok as well as buying all of their products there. The main ways that you can capitalize on this if you work in e-commerce is by staying up to date on changes that the industry is making and keeping an eye out for TikTok-hosted website pages. If they're not in beta already, it's likely that TikTok will release the ability to design your own landing pages and websites on their platform eventually. Eventually where you can order straight from the page. Now you already see that to a certain extent, but keep an eye out for any updates that come into that area.
