In this brief on‑camera monologue recorded at Lalibela Airport in northern Ethiopia, sales mentor Zach Selch recommends Cal Newport’s book Deep Work and explains why its ideas matter to sales leaders. He describes the constant interruptions, urgent people‑focused tasks, and multitasking that characterize a sales leader’s day, which often crowd out the strategic, focused thinking that only the leader can do. Selch outlines the core concept of deep work—intense, distraction‑free concentration—and highlights Newport’s suggested tactics for weaving deep work into daily routines. He concludes with a promotional call‑to‑action, inviting viewers to contact his firm for help growing international sales.

I'm in Lalibela Airport in northern Ethiopia, and I want to talk a little bit about a book that I just read called Deep Work by Cal Newport. It's a really interesting book. As sales leaders, we're always being torn to work on stuff that is urgent and immediate And deals with other people. We're dealing with our distributors, we're dealing with our reps, we're dealing with our team, we're dealing with internal things. All this stuff that is time-sensitive and always seems urgent and always involves interfacing with other people, and we're constantly getting interrupted. And that's just part of our day-to-day. And frankly, part of being a sales leader is multitasking. On the other hand, part of being a sales leader is also dealing with all this strategy and thinking things through that There's a lot of stuff that only you can do, and we lose track of that sometimes. We can't do it because we're so busy dealing with putting out fires, or we're so busy dealing with the interaction with other people. Anyway, in this book, Cal Newport gives a lot of— first of all, he explains why it's important to do deep work and what the concept is behind it. And then he really goes through a lot of strategies and tactics of how we can integrate deep work into our day-to-day lives, and I think it's very important. I've enjoyed it, and there's a lot of stuff here that I can use on a day-to-day basis, I think. Remember, when you're ready to grow your international sales, reach out to us. We can help.
