Overcoming Objections Book - Global Sales Mentor | Zach Selch

Zach Selch recommends Jeb Blount's Overcoming Objections for its scientific approach to handling sales pushback. The book focuses on building a systematic process from the start—positioning, proposals, value presentation—to prevent objections rather than just scripting responses.

I'm in Muscat Airport in Oman. Beautiful airport, by the way. I've been coming here for a long time, probably more than 20 years, but they just changed the airport about 2 years ago. The airport used to be pretty much like a bus station, and now it's, it's gorgeous and very large and really has everything you need. I want to talk about a book called Overcoming Objections by Jeb Blount. You probably know Jeb Blount. He runs salesgravy.com. He's a very well-regarded sales trainer, really has some good stuff out there. I think he has 7 or 8 books, but this book is great. It's about overcoming objections, and what I like about it, first of all, it's very scientific. It goes into depth about explaining why what you should do works and not just sort of throwing out suggestions. The other thing is very often when people talk about objections, what they're looking for is for you to give them a list of one-liners, sort of like you're a stand-up comedian. And that doesn't work that way. If you don't have a system from the very beginning about how you address your sales process, you're not going to overcome objections successfully. So what he's doing is not just saying, well, if somebody says this, you should say this. He's basically talking about how you should have prepared your position from the beginning with the sales process in order to prevent problems happening with these objections. And that, in my humble opinion, that's the way you got to do it, right? Just throwing out a one-liner at the end Isn't going to save your deal when there are objections. What you have to do is prepare yourself from the very beginning in terms of how you structure your discussions with the customer and your proposals and how you present your value and so on. And he talks about this very, very well. It's really a well-crafted, well-thought-out book. Highly recommend it. Jeb Blount, Overcoming Objections. I think it's a good addition to any sales manager or any salesman's or salesperson's library. Remember, when you're ready to grow your international sales, reach out to us. We can help.
