In this brief monologue, Zach Selch stands in front of Moscow’s iconic Bolshoi Theatre and likens the role of a sales manager to that of a ballet choreographer. He explains that, like a choreographer, a sales leader must bring together diverse participants—salespeople, distributors, marketing, and technical staff—to work toward a common goal of securing a purchase order. Beyond coordination, the leader also identifies talent, coaches, trains, and helps team members advance their careers, potentially preparing them to become future sales managers or choreographers. The piece concludes with a promotional call to action, inviting listeners to contact his firm when they are ready to expand their international sales.

I'm in Moscow in front of the Bolshoi Ballet, the Bolshoi Theatre, like the mothership for ballet, probably the most famous and the best ballet company and ballet theatre in the world. And I know very, very little about ballet, but I do relate to it in terms of the idea that I think a sales manager is a lot like a choreographer. What's that? Especially when you're dealing with complex sales that involve a whole team of people. And what do I mean by that? You're bringing together a group of people, salespeople, maybe when you're working in distribution, you're bringing together your people from the distributors and your people from your home office. You're bringing together marketing people, possibly technical people, all these people that are working together to move towards a common goal, towards a purchase order. And you're the guy who's telling everybody what to do. Now, on top of that, just like a good choreographer, you are finding the right people, you're coaching them, you're training them, you're helping them coordinate, and in the end, you're helping them move their careers forward, possibly so that one day they can be a choreographer themselves or a sales manager themselves. And in, in your contract, your personal contract with your reports, with the people who work for you, part of that is you You're helping them achieve their long-term career goals by coaching them and helping them succeed. And I think that's very much like a ballet choreographer does, in my opinion. Remember, when you're ready to grow your international sales, reach out to us. We can help.
