Start with a 20-year vision for your organization, then reverse-engineer it into 10-year, 5-year, and 1-year milestones with specific goals and owners. Short-term plans will shift, but this framework keeps you moving toward what actually matters.

If you know how you want to make a difference in the world, what you want this organization to accomplish, what you want to contribute, let's put that up on the wall, whether it's painted on the wall, whiteboard, flip chart, whatever it is. And in order to achieve that, then you reverse engineer. You come back to today. You literally build it backwards. So you have a 20-year vision. What does the organization need to look like in 10 years to be on track? I mean, specific. Goals that are measurable with actions tied to them and owners of responsibility. And from 10 years to 5, 5 to 1, and then you can get very specific, very tactical, but in a manner that leads you to the path you're trying to achieve. That process is critically important. But yes, the plans themselves, the short-term thing, there are gonna be surprises, there are gonna be hiccups, you're gonna make changes. All of that is fine.
