Crafting an Effective Introduction

This is a YouTube video titled "Crafting an Effective Introduction" created in January 2021, featuring Allie Bjerk delivering a solo training segment on how to create a strong elevator pitch. In the video, Allie shares personal experiences and practical steps for crafting and practicing a concise, impactful self-introduction to boost confidence and visibility in professional settings.
Everybody, welcome back to another quick segment, quick training video from me. My name is Ali Bjork, and today I'm going to be telling you all about how to create a really good elevator pitch so that when you have the opportunity to introduce yourself or meet someone new, you can tell them everything you do in a really impactful two minute segment. So I learned this the hard way that this is something you have to practice because recently, probably within the last week or so, I joined a new peer mastermind with people that I respect beyond belief that I've been, you know, inspired by for years. So I'm on this zoom call and it's my turn. They say, okay, Allie, let's introduce, let's, let's hear your introduction. And I forget my name, right? Like I can't even, I can't even make a sentence, much less like say what I do. My voice is shaking. I'm awkward, uncomfortable, and I got through it. And fortunately from other people in the group heard it was not as horrendous as I felt like it was. But it showed me an opportunity for an area that I can really improve on that will help my confidence when I'm on a podcast, when I'm doing any sort of visibility TV segments, whatever it is in the future, if I can quickly, succinctly and polished in a polished way, introduce myself, it's going to be hugely helpful for me, showing up for me being visible and continuing to grow and scale in a really impactful way. So the first step that I want you to do, if you're interested in crafting your own elevator pitch, which you should be, is write down everything that you do. Write down a list of 1 to 10 and write down who you, who you help, what your name is, what your goals are, what's interesting to you 1 through 10. Like anything that you can think of that would be relevant in an introduction, just to it down on the paper. Because the second step is going to be editing that list so it's not as long as this one and trimming it down to probably five different relevant points that you can make in an elevator pitch. So the next step, once you've written, you've brain dumped all the things you would say, you've edited it down to just a few different points. I want you to grab five different index cards. These are index cards. You may recognize them from studying in college if you studied, which I didn't, but if you did, maybe use them. So take some index cards that you might have left over and on each index card, I want you to write one of the following things. So on the first one, I want you to write who you are. So what is your name? Who are you? That's the first thing I want you to write. The next thing I want you to write is what you do. So what is your specialty? What is your unique selling opportunity? What makes you different? And then the third thing that I want you to write is how you do it. So. So how do you help people? How do you do what you do? That's the third point that I want you to write down. The fourth point is why do you do it? Why are you passionate about it? Why is this something that you've gotten really good at? Why is this your expertise? And then finally, the fifth card, I want you to write down who you do it for. So just to summarize, it's who I am, what I do, how I do it, why I do it, and who you do it for. So. So once you've got those crafted on these cards, you can use them to rearrange them into a format that feels good for you. That seems like it's a succinct and informative pitch where if you told someone, if you met someone and you only had, like, two minutes before they got interrupted and pulled away from the conversation, would you be able to spit out those five cards quickly to be able to give yourself an accurate introduction? So I have actually gone as far as to write out the entire thing. You can see this one has tape on it because I have taped it to my ring light and put my camera in the middle or my phone in the middle so that if I'm ever on a podcast or, you know, something, some live opportunity, and I don't want to stumble again on my introduction, I have this sheet of paper completely written up. I've also created voice memos on my phone of myself going through my intro so that I can get more and more polished as I continue to do more visibility opportunities, because that's a big goal of mine in 2021. So in this experience, I was saying, first of all, I just want to thank you because it was for a podcast. So I even wrote out in this detail to make sure I didn't. Yeah, I wasn't, you know, I didn't forget to be gracious to the host of saying, first of all, I just want to express my gratitude to you for having me here today. I've been inspired by your content for a while now. Deep breath, big pause. My name is Ali Burek, and I'M a visibility strategist and business coach. I help online entrepreneurs, expert consultants, thought leaders and creatives launch tiny offer sales systems that attract high ticket buyers. I'm also a mother of three young children from Northern Minnesota. For six years I was a service provider and of course if you're reading this, it's going to be up here so it's not as obvious, but for six years I was a service provider. I myself learned as much as possible while I was creating funnels and sales systems for other people that when I finally turned around and implemented what I knew into my own business, I shifted my business model and I made a million dollars in the first 10 months of shifting my business model. And now year to date in 2020, I have generated $2.7 million in revenue. I've had to practice that a lot because money mindset. It feels weird to say that much money, but I'm growing into it. So a couple things about that I said who I was, I said who I help, I said how I help them. Um, I even went through something that would entice curiosity of like, you know, if you're looking for a business coach and you're interested in someone who's going to help you generate money in your business, obviously you're going to want to hire someone who has a done it for themselves and be proven that they can recreate the process for other people. So those are just a few different ways to tie it all into a really quick introduction that's detailed, doesn't leave anything out, connects with people, makes an impact, it's memorable, all those things. But it does take practice. If you're someone who feels like, ah, I get so awkward and I get uncomfortable and I don't know how to introduce myself. Like, you can practice this over and over and over again until it just feels natural and you can say it without notes. Clearly. I'm still working on that. But it doesn't have to be. You don't have to feel bad if it doesn't just rattle off your tongue and feel really easy because this is something that does require practice and reiteration until you are able to say a whole page worth of introduction from memory. So just keep practicing, write it down, take notes, you know, practice with a friend. You can find someone who's interested in doing role playing with you. When it comes to these types of introductions or recorded on your phone, there's a lot of different ways that you can practice this. So I hope this was helpful. I know it's been, it was a big process for me to be able to do this inside of my own business. And I hope that you have success in creating your very own elevator pitch. Thanks for being here, and I'll talk to you soon.
