A yoga teacher shows three ways to modify Utthita Parsvakonasana: forearm on thigh with arm extended, hands on a block outside the front foot, or fingertips on a yoga wheel. Each version keeps the pose's length without forcing the chest down.

3 ways to modify Utthita Parsvakonasana. Utthita Parsvakonasana means side angle pose. In the first level of Utthita Parsvakonasana, you're just going to bring your forearm onto your thigh and extend the upper arm straight across or directly up. In the second modification of this posture, you will take a block and you'll just bring your hands onto the block as you extend your upper arm over or directly up. I have the block on the outside of my foot versus on the inside. The reason why is so my chest can open to the sky and I don't have a slump. That doesn't really help us have a nice pose. The final modification of Utthita Parsvakonasana uses the wheel. Make sure you stay onto your fingertips to keep long and lengthen because remember, utthita means extended. And extend your finger to that follow button if you would like more yoga teacher tips.
