In this video, experienced yoga teacher Angelica outlines the three most important factors to consider when selecting an online yoga teacher training (YTTC). She begins by establishing her credibility, noting 20 years of teaching and 15 years of leading teacher trainings, including her own online program. The first factor she emphasizes is the amount of live, one‑on‑one time with a qualified teacher; she stresses that weekly meetings are essential for confidence, progress, and meeting Yoga Alliance requirements. The second factor is built‑in accountability: a structured schedule and regular check‑ins are crucial because “go‑at‑your‑own‑pace” models often lead to low completion rates, as illustrated by her own experience where most participants stalled. The third factor is curriculum relevance—students must ensure the training covers the subjects they want to learn (e.g., chakras, Ayurveda, Sanskrit, Yoga Sutras), since Yoga Alliance approval does not guarantee specific content. Angelica warns against inexpensive trainings that lack these elements, describing them as wasteful. She concludes by inviting viewers to ask questions, request future videos, and subscribe.

These are the top 3 things that you want to look for when you're choosing an online yoga teacher training. Hi, I'm Angelica. I've been teaching yoga teacher training for 15 years now. I've been teaching yoga for 20 years, and now I teach online yoga teacher training. Also host a Create and Launch Your Own Yoga Teacher Training course for teachers who want to take it to the next level. So I have some experience in this. One of the top things that you're going to want to look for is how much time do you actually get with a real live teacher? In my training, I meet with people every single week. Or a teacher meets with them every week. Someone's going to meet with you every week to make sure that you're on track, that you're feeling confident, that you know what to do next, that you feel good about your training. A lot of these really inexpensive online yoga teacher trainings are just that— they're inexpensive, but they're not actually getting anyone to graduate. And that's really kind of unfortunate, and it's a waste of money in the long run. So it might only cost you $99 or $380 this weekend only, but at the end of the day, is anyone going to help you? Because yoga teacher training is not just training how to teach yoga. It's also called yoga teacher training and intensive. And the reason why is because you're going to go through some really intense feelings. While you're doing this training. And I can only tell you what I do in my training and how I want to make sure that people really feel confident and happy after they graduate and that they have fulfilled the things that they went into yoga teacher training for, what their goals were. A lot of trainings, they're not focused this way. There are some great trainings out there though. Make sure that you're gonna get one-on-one time with an actual teacher. That's actually a Yoga Alliance requirement, and it's really important. The second thing that I would really look for when I was choosing an online yoga teacher training was accountability. Oftentimes you'll see this go at your own pace thing, and that seems really great in theory, but in practice it doesn't actually work. When I first started teaching online yoga teacher trainings, I had about 18 people sign up and I did the go-at-your-own-pace thing. And a year later, there were 16 people that still hadn't finished that course. And a lot of these people hadn't even logged in in 6 months because I can see when they last logged in, how many modules they'd completed, and I realized what was missing was the accountability that made people so successful in my in-person trainings. So having a schedule that someone holds you to will ensure that you actually finish the training. And I know it sounds really nice to be like, go at your own pace, this fits into my schedule. But the reality is, is that you're not going to do it unless somebody's like, here, I'm holding you accountable. It's really the key to a successful online yoga teacher training experience. And number 3, the most important thing that you want to look at when you're choosing an online yoga teacher training is, does it focus on the things that you actually want to learn? A common myth is that Yoga Alliance approved trainings are all the same. They're actually crazily, widely, insanely different. Each teacher is going to teach that training very differently. That's why I like to meet with everyone before they sign up for my online yoga teacher training to make sure that this is the training that they really want to get. Let's say that you want to learn about the chakras, but the training that you chose doesn't teach the chakras. Well, that's not a Yoga Alliance requirement. They're not required to teach you the chakras. They're not required to teach you Ayurveda. They're not required to teach you Sanskrit. It's an optional choice for them. So if they don't want to teach the Yoga Sutras, you're not going to learn that. So if philosophy is important to you, you better make sure that that training actually teaches that. That's why I meet with everyone before they sign up for my training, because I want to make sure that I'm overdelivering and exceeding their expectations every time for everyone that signs up for my training.
