I've taught thousands of people how to teach yoga, and this is how I cue Virabhadrasana 1. In any pose that we're teaching, we want to start from the bottom and work our way up. So from here, we're going to start in Tadasana. We're going to bring our right foot forward, spread the toes wide, ground down through the earth. Bring the left foot back so that the front heel is in line with the back heel. Back toe points to the front left corner of our mat. Draw our right hip back and bring our left hip forward. Rotate the hips under, bend into the front knee so that the front knee comes directly over the front ankle. Inhale, pull up through Uddiyana Bandha and Mula Bandha. Out through our first and second rib here and really bringing the energy upward. Arms come to the sky, drop the scapula behind us. Again, pull back in through that stomach and bring our arms in line with the ears. Spread the fingertips wide if you have happy fingers. Make sure you smile.
