In this YouTube video, seasoned yoga teacher and business coach Angelica (a "Yogalebrity" with 15 years of teaching experience) outlines the five essential qualities that make a yoga teacher stand out. She explains each quality with practical, actionable tips for both in‑person and online classes: (1) remembering students' names – using repetition, association, and check‑in rituals; (2) remembering each student’s individual needs – noting preferences for touch, adjustments, or personal details; (3) ensuring every student feels acknowledged – through verbal cues, adjustments, or simple greetings; (4) starting and ending classes on time – respecting students’ schedules and modeling professionalism; and (5) being prepared – having a class theme or a few key postures ready while staying flexible. Angelica interweaves personal anecdotes, classroom exercises, and quick memory tricks, then closes by promoting her free ebook on building a profitable yoga business and her social media channels. The video’s purpose is to equip yoga teachers with concrete habits that deepen student connection and improve class quality, while also positioning Angelica as a resource for yoga‑business growth.

What are the top 5 qualities of an awesome yoga teacher? That's what we're going to talk about today. I'm Yogalebrity Angelica, and I've been teaching yoga for 15 years, and I've been teaching teachers for the last 10 years, and now I'm teaching people how to grow their yoga business and become 10 times more profitable using world-class marketing. So let's get into it. What are the top 5 qualities of an awesome yoga teacher? Number 1: they remember names. Now I know a lot of you are saying, "I don't remember names, I'm not good at that." I wasn't like that either. I wasn't good at that either. But let me tell you, I got really good at it because it makes other people feel good when you remember their name. And don't be afraid to just say I remember faces. I always remember faces, and I remember your beautiful face and your smile, but I swear I cannot remember your name. Could you just tell it to me again? And once you do that a couple of times, you're going to start to remember people's names really fast because it's a little bit embarrassing for you, but it makes the other person feel comfortable. When I meet someone, I say their name 3 times: Susan, Susan, Susan, Susan, Susan. And I repeat it over in my head, but at least 3 times because that's how kindergartners remember. I don't know, it just works for me. Or you could try a thing like Susan. Susan was the name of my boss when I worked in retail and she was an incredible boss. And this lady's name is Susan and she's an incredible person, or I know she's gonna be. So Susan, Susan, that's how I remember Susan. Whatever it takes you to do to remember people's names. And when you're checking in people to your classes, like if you're in a live class, or if you're on a Zoom class, and you're checking in people and you have their names, it's always good to re-announce their names. When I first would do yoga teacher training, I would ask everybody to go around in a circle on the first night. And I would ask them to say what their favorite fruit was, like if they could identify with any fruit, what would it be? And then what their, what their name was. And then I would go back through the circle and say their name again and their favorite fruit. And it just really helped me to remember. Remembering names is really the best thing you can do to be an awesome yoga teacher. Number 2, remember everybody's needs. Like, some people don't want to be touched. Some people want you to get close to them. Some people want you to remember things about them. Some people want to just check out in class. Remembering what everyone's needs are that comes to your classes will make you really stand out in their mind. So whenever somebody comes in, try to remember something about them. Not just their name, but something about them that helps you to identify with them and make them feel special. Number 3 quality of an awesome yoga teacher is to make sure you touch everyone. Make sure that everyone gets touched at least once. And what does that mean? It doesn't mean like physically touching people and doing adjustments. It means like— it could mean those things and it could mean a head rub, but it also means like saying, "Hey Sarah, I'm so glad that you came to class today," or, "Hey Catherine, if you could just move your right foot a little bit more forward and then bend into the front knee. Okay, perfect." Any kind of adjustment, any kind of acknowledgement that they're there in your class really helps to go a long way. And I know it's a little bit more challenging when we teach online, or at least we perceive it that way, but there's always a way to connect with every single student. Number 4, awesome yoga teacher, most definitely start and end on time. You're not giving people extra value by going over in time. I know that you perceive it that way, but you're definitely not. They have somewhere they need to go and they feel like it's rude to say, "I need to go." It also robs you of being able to end your class with your whole class. So when you start and you end a class on time, you're saying, "Your time is important to me just as I'm important to me. I'm putting you on the same level as me." Always start, always end on time. If you make a practice of starting late, your students will always come late, and that, I promise you, will upset some other students. You'll never go wrong starting on time. And the number 5 most Awesome yoga teacher quality is being prepared. Perfect preparation prevents poor performance every time. Always show up with a theme or a few postures in your pocket, even if you're not going to prepare a whole sequence. And that's okay. I don't prepare whole sequences. I don't find that to be helpful. But I do always prepare a theme before I come to class. Am I going to talk about the heart chakra? Am I going to talk about a current event? Am I going to talk Am I going to talk about using color? Am I going to talk about opening the hips? Whatever it is that I'm going to talk about in class, I come prepared with something, but I'm also willing to make changes when I need to. So definitely come prepared. Thank you so much for watching. I make these videos to be helpful to you so that you can grow and be as abundant as I've been as a yoga teacher.
