There's a Modern Parable book called The Way Yoga Works, and in that book he teaches the Yoga Sutras. And one of the stories is that you can use a book to come into postures. It goes like this. You start with your books and each day you rip a page out, get further and further, further towards the ground. And that way books are our original yoga props.
