Yoga for Hikers 15 Minutes

In this 15‑minute guided yoga class, Angelica (known as Yoga Liberty on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube) leads a morning‑friendly sequence designed to prepare the body and mind for a hike at June Lake, California. She begins with a brief introduction, invites viewers to subscribe, and then moves through a fluid flow that includes Sun Salutations, Warrior I on both sides, Downward‑Facing Dog, hamstring‑stretching variations, thoracic twists, balance work, and a seated stretch series. Throughout the practice she emphasizes deep nasal breathing, alignment cues (e.g., keeping hips level, straightening the back leg, avoiding knee bend in Down Dog), and mindful gratitude for the outdoor setting. The session concludes with a seated meditation that replaces a traditional Shavasana, focusing on nasal breath to calm the nervous system, followed by a gratitude affirmation and multiple calls to action for subscribing, liking, and exploring Angelica’s online yoga teacher‑training programs. The video blends clear instructional language, supportive encouragement, and a subtle promotional tone.

Welcome everyone to Yoga with Angelica. My name is Angelica, also known as Yoga Liberty on Instagram and TikTok. And here on YouTube and also on my podcast. Anyhow, today we're going to be doing a really nice, simple, easy class that I did before I went on a hike in June Lake, California. I'm excited for you to join me today. Make sure that you hit the subscribe button and like this video if you want to see more like this. Start at the front of your mat, take a deep inhale and raise your arms to the sky. Exhale as you dive forward. Inhale, look up and lengthen your spine. Exhale and fold forward. Step your left foot back, turn your left foot so that it points towards the front corner of your mat. Raise your arms to the sky, coming into Virabhadrasana 1, Warrior 1. On the right side. Front knee is bent over the front ankle. Left hip comes forward as your right hip pulls back. Arms in line with the ears. Breathing deep here, in and out through the nose. Deep inhales and deep exhales. And on your next exhale, bring both hands down to frame your front foot. Step your left foot to meet your right foot. Inhale, look up and lengthen. Exhale and fold. Step your right foot back so that your right big toe points to the front corner of your mat and lift your arms to the sky on an inhale. Your right hip is going to pull forward as your left hip pulls back. Bend your front knee so that it comes directly over your left foot. Arms are in line with the ears as you breathe deep in and out. Through the nose, deep inhales and deep exhales. Bring the hands down to the ground. Step the right foot up to meet the left. Inhale, look up, lengthen, straighten the legs. Exhale and fold. Inhale, arms swoop to the sky. Exhale, hands come to the heart center in Samasthiti. Immediately inhale, arms come to the sky. Exhale as you dive forward. Inhale, look up and lengthen. Exhale, plant your hands, step back, and come into a downward facing dog, Adho Mukha Svanasana. Press the heels towards the ground. Let your hips ride high to the sky. Try to keep the back leg straight and resist the urge to bend the knees back and forth. This will allow us to really get a nice hamstring stretch before going out hiking today. Open at the armpits and spread your fingertips wide. Really try to get a stretch along the back as well as the backs of the legs. Breathing deep here, in and out through the nose. It's probably not the best idea to wear socks, but it was cold that morning, and so that's why I chose to wear socks. Breathing deep in and out through the nose. Step your feet forward to meet your hands. Immediately inhale, look up and lengthen. Exhale and fold. Inhale, arms come to the sky, Tadasana. Exhale, hands to the heart center, Samasthiti. Inhale, arms reach to the sky. Exhale as you dive forward. Inhale, look up and lengthen with the flat back. Exhale, fold forward. Bring your left foot back, and then inhale, sweeping your arms up in line with your torso so that your body is facing towards the left side of your mat. Right knee is bent. Try to bring your right knee directly over your right ankle and look at the tip of your front middle finger. We're just going to breathe here, in and out through the nose. Deep inhales. And on your exhale, bring your hands down to meet your front foot. Step your back foot up to meet your right foot. Inhale, look up, lengthen. Exhale and fold. Inhale, arms to the sky. Exhale, hands to the heart center. Inhale, arms reach to the sky. Exhale as you dive forward. Inhale, look up and lengthen. Exhale and fold. Bring your right foot back so that it's about 2 or 3 feet back. Front heel is in line with the arch of the back foot. Bring the arms up in line with each other. We're going to take a few breaths here. Deep inhale through the nose. And deep exhale out the nose. Continuing to breathe. If your hands get tired, you can always flip your palms toward the sky. Just continue to breathe in and out through the nose. Now from here, we're going to go ahead and bring those hands down to the ground. Step the back foot forward. Immediately inhale, look up and lengthen. Exhale and fold. Inhale, arms sweep to the sky. Exhale, hands to the heart center. Samasthiti. Taking a moment here to just take everything in as you breathe in and out through the nose, really getting in touch with your own body, creating peace and space within, acknowledging the gratitude that you have for the life that you live. Inhale, arms reach to the sky. Exhale as you fold forward. Inhale, look up and lengthen. Exhale, plant your hands. You're going to take a step back with your right foot and turn your left foot and your right foot so that they're parallel to each other, as wide as you feel comfortable on the mat. Inhale, look up, lengthen. Exhale and fold into the posture. Allow yourself to breathe deep in and out through the nose, again resisting the urge to bend the knees if possible so we can get a nice stretch along the backs of the legs. Try to keep the back flat and just fold forward to what is your comfort level, not your ego level. Bring the left hand into the middle of the mat, come up onto your left fingertips, bring your right hand onto your right hip, and then just a nice gentle thoracic twist in the middle spine. You maybe bring the arm up, maybe not, it doesn't matter. The twist is what's important here, not the arm in the sky. It doesn't have to look perfect, it has to feel good. Breathing deep here in and out through the nose as you bring the right hand down to the ground again, the left hand onto the hip. Rotate the left shoulder now towards the sky, and we're just getting a nice deep stretch in the thoracic. Notice that my hips do not move here. Hips are even, there's no hip movement, it's just thoracic middle spine movement right behind your breastbone. Breathing deep in and out through the nose. Always remember and come back to the breath. And then go ahead on your exhale, fold forward. Inhale, look up, lengthen. Exhale and fold. Let's go ahead and bend the left knee here. Right foot points back towards the body, plantar flexion. Breathing deep here in and out through the nose, getting a nice stretch along the back of the right leg and working a little bit of balance. On our left foot. Slowly move your way to the other side for Skandasana modification. The left foot points back towards the body, stretching out the back of the left leg, and we're on that right foot doing a little bit of balance. Breathing deep here, in and out through the nose. Really nice inhales, really nice exhales. Slowly coming back to center. Inhale, look up, lengthen. Exhale and fold. One hand at a time, bring 'em onto your hips and then slowly inhale all the way to the sky. Big smile on your face. Arms to the sky. Hands to the heart center on the exhale. Step your feet together to meet each other. We're gonna go ahead and make our way to the floor. So step your right foot forward, then your left foot to meet. Inhale, arms to the sky. Exhale and dive forward. Inhale, look up and lengthen. Exhale, plant your hands, step one foot back and then the other, coming into Adho Mukha Svanasana, Downward Facing Dog. Breathing deep here, in and out through the nose. Go ahead and just bend your knees, bring first your right shin down, then your left, sitting back onto your ankles. Bring your hands onto your legs. Again, breathing here in and out through the nose. We're going to take this time to reflect on gratitude for being in the space that we are. I was absolutely grateful to be at June Lake. It's definitely cooler than Las Vegas. Breathing deep in and out through the nose, let the eyes close and just let yourself come to peace into your space, wherever that is, knowing that we are connected by electrons and neutrons and protons. Go ahead and bring your hands forward, bring your knees as wide as the mat, coming into Balasana or Child's Pose. You can sit back as you breathe deep here, in and out through the nose. Just let yourself relax. Let the third eye come to the ground, Ajna chakra, the center of intuition, allowing ourselves to connect with the earth. Letting that electric energy from the planet come into our bodies. Slowly inhale, walk your hands back up, and just sit to the right side. Swing your legs around, first the left and then the right. Let your toes point back towards you as you straighten the legs. Bring your hands onto the body. Inhale, reaching your arms to the sky. Exhale, hands down onto your legs. You can grab onto your toes here if that feels comfortable, or you can just let your hands come onto your shins, whatever works for you. Try to keep a flat back and try to keep the legs straight so that you're getting lengthening in the back and you're also getting lengthening on the back of your legs. This is called Intense Western Stretch because it's believed that this is an intense western stretch of the western side of the body because we do Sun Salutations facing east, so we salute the sun eastward as it comes up and the western side of our body is stretching. So that's the whole back and the backs of the legs. Slowly walk your hands up as you inhale. Bend first the right knee and then the left, coming into a nice easy seated pose, sukhasana. From here, we'll inhale, reach the right arm to the sky. Exhale, right hand comes across and comes onto the left knee. Left hand comes behind you. You are on the tips of your finger on your left hand, even though you can't see that on my hand. This allows us to keep our spine very straight and long and lengthened. So again, that twist is in the thoracic spine, in the middle back, right behind the breastbone. Inhale, right arm comes to the sky, swoops around behind the body. Left arm reaches over to the right knee, lengthening and twisting deeper. Breathing deep here, in and out through the nose, connecting with nature, connecting with your body, connecting with the incarnation of God that you believe in. Slowly come back to center, palms facing upward to receive energy, palms facing downward to keep energy inside. We'll come into a meditation, breathing deep here in and out through the nose, allowing yourself to really slow down. Try to resist breathing in and out through the mouth, just breathe through the nose. This helps to lower the flight or fight response, allow you a moment of quiet and peace. This will be in replacement of our Shavasana. Instead, we're going to just do a meditation because I didn't want to lay down on the ground in the middle of nowhere in a parking lot. So just allow yourself to relax. Bringing your energy back into the space, slowly bring your hands to the heart center. The light within me honors the divine and beautiful light within each and every one of you.
