Build a Click-Based Sending Segment in beehiiv With One AI Prompt

Chris Miquel shows how to use Claude or ChatGPT with beehiiv's MCP to build a click-based sending segment in one prompt. The AI asks configuration questions about your publication and send history, then creates the segment automatically. Click-based segments are better for deliverability because clicks are the most reliable engagement signal.

All right. I'm excited about this one. I put together documentation and a prompt that you can use inside your AI, whether it be Claude or ChatGPT, to create a base sending segment using Beehive's MCP. It'll walk you through the process step by step, have you answer questions, and in the end, it'll create that segment, the base sending segment within your account, which you can use to send to your subscribers and future sends. So I'm going to go ahead and share my screen and walk you through the process here. Let me share real quick. And there we go. All right. So the documentation's here. You don't have to read all this. This is basically just telling it what to do. What you need is this prompt right here. This prompt links to this page itself. All right. So I'm going to copy that. I'm going to go to my chat here. I'm assuming right now you already have Beehive MCP connected to your account, to your, to your AI. That's another thing if you don't know how to do that, but make sure it's connected. Once it's connected, then you can obviously access it for all types of stuff, reporting, creating posts, creating segments, analyzing sources, analyzing data, analyzing results, all that stuff. So what this is going to do now is it's basically consuming that documentation I provided that I put together. And based off of that, it'll walk you through the process of what decisions you got to make to create this. So first here, it's going to say which publication. Let's go with Healthy Happy. And then we'll come here. And it's going to be taking time to think. I'm probably not the biggest talker here, so it takes time here while it's doing this. So I apologize, but we'll get through it. Right now it's getting the segments, seeing what your current situation is, what type of segments you have set up already. Do you already have maybe a base setting segment set up that we can compare to? Things like that. It'll check the list, it'll then go in and start analyzing what you've been sending, how frequently you've been sending, because that's part of the decision-making process. So here we go. First question, how many emails do you send per week to this audience? We send daily, so almost 7 per week. It's probably going to go in now. You'll see that it'll start looking and seeing how many posts you've actually sent. Daily, just to kind of give you confirmation like, hey, no, you send twice a day, not once a day, or you send 5 times a day. And it'll give you like kind of an idea of what that looks like. And you can just confirm. I'm pretty sure here we missed a couple days. So it'll tell us here, actual last 30 days, you've only sent 6.5 per week, which Kate hinted is daily. I think we missed one or so on the holidays, who knows. But I'm going to assume 7, 6.5, it's still Close enough. Send in a row. So click window sends in a row with no click before past clicker drops out. So this is how long you want a clicker to be on your list without clicking an email. So I'm going to do 90 sends. That's basically 3 months to click. You have 90 more days to click again. My opener window. I'm going to do 60. Grace windows. This is for when new subscribers come in. I like to make this a longer period of time because people are opening when they're new subscribers. You know, we got to see if they're a bot or not, but we'll give them longer time to stay on the list. Just to confirm, so I'm going to make that 120. And then you always have this, a new scraper window, so you can hit this not sure other number, and it could give you a recommendation saying that, you know, use a daily starting value, use 15 send days. Okay. So if you're not sure what you want to do, go ahead and hit that option and it will give you an idea or a recommendation based on your frequency and things that you have set up. And now it should be just kind of putting it all together. It'll probably give me an analysis. Do you want to create this in the With these settings, yes, build it. Now it's going to be going in, creating the segment within Beehive. So it's creating and processing. So now it's already in Beehive. You know, sometimes it takes a little while for it to update. So if I go here and hit refresh, should show up here. Base settings segment VSS 90, 61, 20, 15. Still hasn't processed, so we just got to wait for that to finish running. Just check here again. Polling checking. Could take a while. I'm just gonna keep on hitting refresh over here. See if that number changes. Expect 80-some thousand. There we go. 83,839 subscribers is what my base segment's going to be, and those are people I'm going to start sending my daily newsletter to, right? Those are people that have proven that they're verified clickers. Those are people that continue to open and have clicked in the past, or the people that are opening and they're new, you know, they've only been on my list for a few months without clicking, or people that just subscribed to my list. And that's what is going to help you keep most of your emails in the inbox and, you know, help your domain reputation, all those things. Deliverability is getting harder and harder. These days. So this type of stuff is very important. Let me go ahead and stop sharing. So if you have any questions, let me know. But basically, you just put this in, put that, select that prompt, put it into your AI, and then just walk through the process. If you're unsure, just put, you know, unsure and see what recommendations it gives you throughout the process. And this is an idea, you know, If you test it, see what it does, see if you like it. If you don't like it, then don't use it. These are what I use. A lot of my stuff is based on click activity. I try to get clicks on all my emails. So my clicks are what's important. That's how I make money as advertisers, or click, the ads are getting clicked on. Driving them to my websites, all that stuff. If you don't feel like you have a lot of click activities, you're not driving clicks and you're just more of a content and you think opens is more important to you, then this base setting segment might not be for you. I'll create another one based on opens probably and provide that later down the road. But this is really Based around what I consider the most reliable human signal, which is a click. And that's why I put this together for you. Thanks. And again, if you have any questions, just hit me up. Peace.
