Open every meeting with a simple question that gets people to say yes, like asking if they're open to new ideas. That early agreement primes them to be more receptive to what you propose next.

You've probably heard how important it is to make a good impression, but it's not so simple. It's not just about coming off nice so that they like you. Your first impression is also the perfect opportunity to prime your audience for the outcome you're looking for later. My favorite is I know someone who starts every single meeting, every presentation with a simple question. Do you consider yourself to be a person that is— insert the blank or something— that's open to change? That likes new ideas, that tries new things, that is on the cutting edge, whatever it may be, because they're going to say yes, and that is going to prime them to be more open to whatever it is you're trying to persuade them of down the road. So don't forget, kick off that meeting with some power.
