Clubhouse Masterclass. The nuts & bolts of the app, how to monetize and market on CH.

In this live, interactive masterclass, Beth Nydick—media veteran, author, and entrepreneur—guides participants through the fundamentals of the Clubhouse app and how to leverage it for business growth. She explains the app’s UI (hallway, explore, bio, invites, calendar, activity), the roles of rooms, stages, and audiences, and demonstrates how to create and host open, closed, and social rooms. Beth covers how to start and apply for clubs, manage invites, and use the platform’s networking features (hand‑raising, one‑to‑one rooms, follower lists). The bulk of the session focuses on monetization tactics: embedding clear calls‑to‑action, directing listeners to DMs, email opt‑ins, and external funnels; using bios and linked URLs; promoting rooms on other social channels; and repurposing content. Throughout, attendees ask practical questions about invites, finding rooms, moderation tools, and technical quirks, which Beth answers with step‑by‑step tips. She also shares branding advice (consistent photos, bright colors, club naming), best practices for engagement (raising hands, speaking early, authentic storytelling), and cautions about time management and platform limitations. The session ends with a Q&A, promises a recording, and offers templates and bundles for further Clubhouse mastery.

Awesome. Welcome to the ABCs of Clubhouse: Mastering the Art of the Hottest New App. I'm Beth. Oh, I don't know if you can see it. I don't know if you don't know me. Um, I'm a mom. I have 2 dogs, 2 teenage boys, been married for 22 years. I spent 20 years in the media business working for Warner Brothers, NBC, VH1, and Fox. And right now, and now what I do is I lend my expertise to entrepreneurs and personalities to convert their cultivate their business and secure publicity and media. I've earned my own business for my cocktail book, which I think a couple of you have. Next time we'll make cocktails. I didn't even think about it this time, to be honest. Forbes, Parade, and I actually hold a Guinness Book of World Records record, which I'll tell you all about that at the end. So this is the agenda for today. We're going to go over the nuts and bolts of how to use Clubhouse and what all the rooms mean. How to create, how to host a room, how to start a club, and then strategies and Q&A. How does that sound? Awesome, awesome. Cool. Okay, so let's start with— I'm going to stop sharing this screen and I'm actually going to share. Let's see, let's hope it works. Give me one second. I apologize. It worked when I tried this, of course, 10 minutes ago. Give me one second.
Hey, Ashley, I have a thing to note to you that there's more than one Clubhouse. Oh, I said Ashley. Sorry, I found you through Ashley. Beth, I found you through Ashley Armstrong.
Okay, so you mean there's one more than one Clubhouse app?
Yeah, and you actually posted the wrong one on her— on your thing.
It—
the flags of Clubhouse is not the Clubhouse that is the other.
I didn't even know that. Thank you.
Exactly. Like, so you're welcome. Instructor.
I appreciate that. You're welcome. Okay, so there's no real logo. I'm going to show you. I'll show you guys the—
I've heard that the logo was that little hand, and that's what to look for. Join Clubhouse, and it's drop-in audio chat is kind of how it goes. But if the other people just like fascinating in business, they must be like so happy. You know how like the more hits the better and the more people that are signing up. Naive people are going to say— they won't realize, oops, I'm in the wrong one. They're going to be paying for the Clubhouse that's the other—
oh, I hope not. Okay, let's— I appreciate that. Thank you so much. One second.
You're welcome.
Okay, so Clubhouse, this is the Clubhouse on my actual phone. It's this guy with a guitar. Um, and then find the right one, and I apologize for that. I'm glad you told me. Um, for Miss, wait till it follows up because I'm on it in my phone.
Yeah, I've seen that question asked over the weeks. People said, hey, there's two Clubhouses, and then I knew to look for the hand. So there you go.
Thank you. You're welcome. This is when you're like, oh, the text's gonna work, it's gonna be fine. If not, I was going to do it off. I'm so sorry, guys. Give me one more second. I don't know why it's not working.
And Beth, while you're trying to figure it out, can you, um, I just want to remind everyone to mute themselves please so we can only hear Beth while she's presenting.
Okay, I'm gonna, I'm It's not working on that way, so I'm going to share my deck instead so that you guys can see that instead. Can you guys see this? Mm-hmm. Okay, so this is your home screen. So if everyone has their phone in front of them— and now I can't see everybody. Okay, so everyone has their phone in front of them, open up the app, and that's your home screen. That's also called the hallway. I don't know if anyone's heard the term hallway before. Okay, so at the top of the hallway is the grayish, you know, the darker box. Those are rooms that are coming up. So they're in the next half hour. That's what you can look forward to. But the rooms below in the white are rooms that are available to you for right now. And as you scroll down—
You mean where it says like 5:30, there's poetry lyrics, that's like what's coming up?
Coming up, you mean? Exactly, up here. Okay. Like, I'm so sorry that it's not working with the other thing. Okay, so while you're in there, if you could find in Clubhouse— if you're in Clubhouse, find the room that I'm in by myself. You're going to scroll down until you see me. If you can, I think you should be able to find me if you follow— if you follow me. If not, just go into a room so you can see the people that are in there. Okay, and once you're in there, what I want you to do is click on one of the people that are in the room so that you can see their profile. Okay, and on the profile you're going to see how many followers they have, which honestly, since we're so used to Instagram and Facebook, the followers right now, the amount doesn't make a difference. It doesn't do anything to the feed. It doesn't tell you, it doesn't have you higher in when people go to search you. It's just how many people for right now. They haven't decided what they're doing with it yet. But then you can see the first 3 lines of my bio, or whoever is the bio person that you're seeing. And the option you have is to see their full profile, Or move to audience, which is what happens when we get to the room. I'll discuss that too. Everyone finding that? Just want to make sure I can see everybody. Okay. On the top of the, of that hallway page is the dashboard. Like, give me a thumbs up, make sure you see— you can see what I'm seeing. Okay, so on the dashboard, this little, you know, handheld is the search button. This one with the little star is the invite button, how many invites you have to give to other people. This is a calendar, so the calendar of rooms. This is the activity that's going on with the people that you follow and the rooms that you've been in and the groups that you belong to. And the one on the right is your bio. Okay, so we're gonna start and explore. So if everybody's in their app, can hit on the little magnifying glass. You have— if you're having any issues, just put it in the chat so I can see it. I think I feel like this will be so much easier on the phone, but okay. So on this page, this is where you can find people that you're interested in. You can find your friends, and then you can also find conversations on the bottom. Let's start on the top with friends. So if everybody would, in the, in the search thing, put my name, but Beth Nidick, so you can find me on Clubhouse. I'm going to do the same thing. And you're going to open my full bio. Right. So in the bio itself, it's just like any other bio, just like your media bio, you're going to say who you are, what you do, what your accolades are about, what you're about, and how they can find you. And if you have a business, what your call to action is. So on mine, you know, I put who I am, who I help. I decided to do a URL on my website, so it's bethnydek.com/clubhouse. And what I'm going to hold there is an opt-in just for people in Clubhouse. So this is a little strategy tip: when you're in a room or you're hosting a room, you have to have a call to action to move the audience either to your social media or to another platform so that you can connect with them outside of Clubhouse. You can get them into your funnels and get them into your business. So if you're in a room and you can say, thanks so much, you can follow me, or you can download my PDF on how to get media at bethnydic.com/clubhouse, a portion of people that are in that room are going to go to your website and going to give you their email address and going to download your opt-in, and now they're in your email sequence. Does that— I just wanna make sure that lands with everybody. You give me a thumbs up if that lands. Awesome. Okay. And also, you're going to scroll, like scroll down, you can look and see what mine is. Please follow me, of course. And at the bottom, you're gonna see that I connected my Twitter and my Instagram. Those are the options. You cannot connect to Facebook. If you don't have a Twitter account, then you're just not going to put your Twitter on it. Don't connect your Twitter if you don't use Twitter. If you use Instagram, put your Instagram on as well so that everything is there, so that there is a way to find you onto another social media platform. But if you scroll up on mine, I also put my email address, I put my calendar address, and and I say my DMs are open, giving permission for anyone that watch— that looks at my profile to go into my DMs in Instagram and send me a message. Because a lot of people need permission to connect with you, even if they've liked you in a room. So when they go to your bio and they see, oh, I can DM her, she's told me I can, you get so many more DMs that way. Like I have to tell you guys, I only been on Clubhouse for about a month, but I've made more passive income product sales than I did last year in the last 3 and a half weeks. And it's only being— all I've done is being in rooms and sending people to my DMs. And another tip, what I decided to do is I say, hey, please go to my DMs and just send me, send me a message. But if you want, just write the word Clubhouse and your email address, and I will send you the PDF of getting media. And a lot of people did that. So it's And in my PDF, there's an upsell to my passive income product. So it's, it's really simple and working by sending them the CTA to somewhere that they connect to you. But for my objective, and what I want you guys to think about is you need their email address to get into your email sequence funnel for your business. So that's, that's the CTA that you want from Clubhouse. It's great to grow your Instagram. It's great to grow your, your followers on your club in Clubhouse. But to really get their email address, that's really how you create that business conversation with them. Cool. Well, okay, I want to, I want to see if I can see more of you guys. Let's see how everyone's doing. We get a thumbs up if we're good. You have awesome. Okay, I'm gonna go on. So we're going to go back to the room where you're explore the Explore room. The page or explore, on the top they're going to suggest people to follow. So when you signed up, you gave them things that you were interested in. Do you— if you remember, you click different interests, and because the algorithm works for you, depending on what rooms you go into and what— who people you follow, they, they suggest people that are— that you should be following on there. Okay, and on the bottom finding conversations. So because I can't see the chat, Amanda, can you give me an idea of a conversation you might want to find?
You can unmute.
You're so good at your feed. Pick something. What would I want to find?
Um, I guess like latest trends would be great.
Okay, so you're talking about fashion. So then, yeah, fashion decor, anything like that. Let's see, I'm looking. So that would be under maybe arts. So if you click on arts, I just wanna make sure everyone's on the bottom of their explore page where the conversation is. Click on arts and you'll see people that might be interesting for you to follow, topics for you to explore, and clubs. But I'm gonna explain clubs in a minute. That's also where you can find clubs to join that are under your interests. Like, I joined some cocktail clubs, I joined some media clubs, I joined some— I have two pit bull dogs, I joined a pit bull dog club. And actually, they're a lot of fun there. So it's not just for business. Like, you can really— like, there's a knitting club. I'm sure there's a billion knitting clubs. I'm sure there's a billion book clubs. Like, there's really clubs for everything. It's just exploring in that section to find them. Well, okay, good. So also, when you explore at the top, I just want to make sure you can see that. Let me go back. At the very top up here, it says people or it says clubs. So if you're searching for somebody, and let's think, we're going to think about their bios now. So if I'm looking for a journalist, but I don't know their name, right? I'm just looking to see what journalists are on the app, or what intuitive healers, or what therapists are on the app. I'm going to put the word therapist or jeweler or intuitive guidance, whatever you're looking for. So I'd love for everyone to try that, like put into the, into the explore space what you do for a living. And you're going to find other people that that do something similar or the same as you, and you can see who they follow and what clubs that they're in. But if you, if you notice, you're not going to see like the biggest marketers or the biggest designers or the biggest wedding planners. The algorithm doesn't work like that yet. So it's just regular people. Or you can hit club and you can hit find the clubs that are underneath that as well. So you can search for clubs that way or scroll down into the topic areas and search for clubs in there too. I know that was a lot of information, so if anyone wants to unmute and ask a question, please do now, and I'll stop for a second because I need a drink.
How do you start a group?
Okay, I'm gonna get to this, how to start a club, in a minute. Anything else?
If someone has a group and it seems like it's relevant to you, And maybe you want to— I was playing around with it yesterday, uh, and you want— it seems like there are some people who are like invited to speak or something like that. How do you get invited to be one of the featured people?
Okay, we'll get to that too. Okay, great. We'll get to that. Okay, so I'm going to go to the next. So go back to your hallway. Everyone remembers what your hallway is, and the next is that little envelope with the star. That's the invites you have. So I have 3 invites. So if anyone needs an invite, and you gain invites by being in rooms and participating. So there's not much, you know, if you have somebody like I let somebody in today, you know, I said, hey, do you have an invite? They said no. I said, hey, here's one. I'm actually going to be auctioning off a couple, not auctioning off, I'm going to give away a couple invites this week. So if you, anyone that— know anyone that needs an invite, let me know and I'll put them in the raffle. Um, this page is kind of— that's, that's the extent of this page. Okay, let's go back. So the next one is the calendar, the calendar one. Okay, so the calendar one, it tells you on the top it says Upcoming for You on the very top. Click that and you'll see it says All upcoming, upcoming for you, or my events. So it filters how you can see those, those rooms on that page. I like to check my events just to make sure and see what I have coming up, because every Tuesday I have a room at 2 o'clock, and every Thursday I have a room at 4 o'clock. So I know that's always on there every week, but I also am doing— I'm collaborating, so I can just check and see what I have. But when you open the room in the Upcoming for You, these are all rooms that correspond to the interests that you had put in when you originally started and the rooms that you visit. So it's going to be a collaboration of all those different kinds, but you can scroll through and see which ones you like. So if you do find one you like, click on it. It's going to pull up a screen like this. Let me make sure you guys can see that. And you can add the link to your calendar, which I think is one of the most genius parts of this app. It goes right into your calendar, and you can tweet about it, share it, or copy the link to then post on social media. Looks like everyone's checking it out. I just want to give everybody a minute to do that.
Is there a way to see beyond? Is it today? It just shows today.
If you scroll down, it eventually gets to tomorrow. But that's, that's how many rooms are on today for the rest of the day. Like, I was on a room yesterday and he said that it was Yuri. He's a marketing guy and he was like, this is our 27th of this room. So there's rooms that are half an hour, rooms that are 24 hours. So there's a lot of rooms. Like Brad has a room later that he's going to tell us about in a little bit, then everyone can join him later in his first room. Okay, so then, um, let me get the name. Okay, so the next one is your activity. So this is the next— the little bell on the dashboard in the top of your hallway is the activity. And this tells you who's following you. My friend Heidi just signed up and said, do you want to follow them? So I'm going to follow her. And it just gives you the activity of who followed you, who you followed, and also tells you the people that you follow what rooms are coming up in. So it always leads back to the new rooms that you can see and what they're coming up with. And if they scheduled a room, like my friend Craig scheduled a room for later today, and now I can see that. So all that activity is on here. To be completely honest, I don't check this very often. I don't care what everyone's doing. Not care, but, you know, I don't really need to know who's following me or following me. I'm not paying attention to that daily, but I do check it twice a week to see who's following me, to make sure that either I'm following them and to see what they're doing because they showed an interest in me. It's just like liking one of my posts on Facebook or liking my page on Facebook. They're into what I'm talking about. So let's see who they are. Maybe it's somebody to collaborate with. I have to tell you that Forbes Riley, who's a huge woman in media, liked, followed me on my page, and I was excited about it. So, you know, you can find all different things that are going on in there. But do check it at least a couple times a week to see what's going on. It will ask you if you want to follow people when people come on. And that's the, that's the activity page. Awesome. Okay. I just want to make sure there are any— everyone's— a thumbs up if everyone's still with me. But I made sure. Awesome. Okay, great. Make sure everyone's there. Okay, so that those are those pages. Let's go to the next one. We, sorry, we did the activity. We kind of went over the bio. And the bio, you know, it's really checking out the people and seeing, you know, what they're doing. If it's not your, if it's not your own, if it's your own, I'm creating a bio template that I'm going to be putting out there next week. So I can help you do that as well. But I wanted to go to settings. So if you're in your bio, if everyone can go to their bio page, I can see you guys too. And click the little gear that's in the upper right. That's your settings page. Okay, and your settings, like on here, it's frequency, putting trending rooms into your feed, what your interests are, the frequently asked questions. It's like your setting page of anything else in any other app. The only— the one that I would put that I would have you check frequently is the Frequently Asked Questions, because they are giving you updates of what's going on in the app in that section. That's also where you can find out more information about clubs. When you get to a club room, that's where you find out how to apply for it. But they do give you a lot of information there as well. Also, I want you to check is your interests, this part of the page, and see what, see what you clicked when you, when you started getting on. If there's something you want to add or take away, or you're not quite seeing the kinds of rooms that you're really interested in, if you scroll in every room, you're like, this is not it, go back to your interests and change them so that you can find the rooms that you really want to be in. At the bottom it says connect Twitter and Instagram. That's where you connect your other apps to that app. And again, if you don't have Twitter, don't put it on. If you don't use Instagram, don't put it on. Put your website. Um, some people are putting not their actual cell phone numbers, but there's companies that give you a number that you can text to, and a lot of people are doing that as well. I have a, um, silly question, I think. No silly questions. Okay, um, I wasn't sure if identity was everybody that I reach or whether it was everything I am. Payment. So I checked, I checked, I checked them all under interests. Oh yeah, I would go, you can check them all, but you're going to get rooms with all of that information in there.
So right, but don't—
like, I'm not a BIPOC, so I'm gonna— but I still clicked it because I'm interested in what they have to say. You know, I'm not LGBTQ, but I still clicked it. So if you're interested in what those that room would be about, then click it. That's okay. Okay. But it's not for who I attract. No, it's for what you're interested in seeing. Got it. Okay. Thank you. Okay. So one, this is a big one and this is one that I know is going to help a lot of people. Are you ready? Go back to your hallway, which is your main page. And you're going to swipe left. I don't know who here does Tinder, but it's just like Tinder. You're going to swipe left. Okay, so we're going to swipe left. Or if you're in the swiping, they have this little— if you look on the screen, they have this little box right here. Click that because sometimes they keep changing it. So click the box, and what's going to come up are all your people that you follow and all the active clubs that you are currently on the platform right now. I'm gonna say that in a different way. So everybody that you follow that's available to talk, which is anyone who's not hosting a room, is listed on this page as well as the top as the active clubs. If you click, like I clicked on my friend, my friend Carmelia, you can see, I see the top of her bio. I see I can join the room that she's speaking in, or it'll say join the room they're in. So she's hosting this room, so I can go listen to her. Or if she's just in a room, I can go into the room she's with as well and then see her, her full profile. If they're not in a room and you click on them, you can start your own room together, just the two of you, which is something like I've done that to meet people. Like I've seen they're on and I don't really know them, or we're like, we know of each other. And I clicked them and I said, hey, do you want to get into a room together? And I had like a mini networking session with that person. So you can connect in so many different ways than just being in a room. You can connect here as well. I hope it inspires you to really like connect with the people like this way as well. If there's somebody in particular that you want to speak to or some like an expert you want to get in front of, it's a really great way to do that because you stand out when you, when you connect with them. One-to-one instead of being in the room.
Can you also, Beth, clarify for people that when you do a one-to-one room, you have options whether to make it closed or open?
Yeah, I'll get to that. Thank you. Let me see if I have it in the next screen. Okay. How we doing? So make sure to check in with everybody. Can we do a thumbs up if we're good? Everyone's with me? Awesome. Thank you, Josh. Thank you, Sylvia. Okay. Okay, so I'm going to create a room. If you guys don't mind, I'm going to try one more time to see if I can get my phone because I really want to show you how to do the room part of it. So give me one second. See if I can make this happen. It did happen the first time. It was working. Ah, there we go. Awesome. Okay. Now everyone can see my screen? Okay, so I want to show you again, like if I— Pedro, if I wanted to start a room with him, I could start a closed room together. Or a full profile. Closed room means no one else can come in besides the two of us. A social room means that anyone that follows me can come in. And an open room means that anybody at all can come in, anyone, anyone that's, that's out there. And you'll see when you're in the room itself— I can't get a screenshot of this because you have to be— let's see if I can do it. So you see, I'm I'm here, I'm on stage. That's what it's called. If I was— if there are other— other people are on the app and can come into the room with me, if you could, so I can demonstrate something. Because there's the room— I mean, sorry, there's the room, there's the stage, and then there's the audience. But there's two sections of the audience. There's a staging audience and the audience audience.
How do you find you?
So if you go to— if in your hallway and you go on the little, you know, the little dots to come to this, I should show up if you follow me.
So Beth, I follow you and I am clicking on your bio. It does not tell me that you're in a room.
Yeah, it doesn't yet. You have to go this way. It doesn't. Yeah, that would be nice to know. Like if you click on them, you could see what room that person's in. The only way you could see that is on this screen.
So how do you want us to get into that room? You didn't— you just tell us if you're on the app, go into the same room that you're in, but you using this, using this part, like click on the—
those.
Gotcha, gotcha.
Okay, okay, I follow you, but I can't find you.
I'm trying to find you.
I follow you, but I can't— you're not coming up in my available to chat. Remember, it is a, um, a beta app, so they're still figuring out the, you know, the tip, the hacks they need to do to make it work for them. But that, that some happens sometimes.
Do I go into the Looking Glass?
You can't get to the room that way. You can find out about me that route, that way, but you can't actually get to the room. Yeah. Okay, so Sherry's on your—
Beth, I can't do both Zoom and Clubhouse on my phone at the same time, otherwise I would come into the room.
Sorry. Okay, so this is the staging audience, or where Cherry is, versus the audience audience. Because if somebody else was in here that didn't follow me, it would just be a section down here of those people. But what hap— this is the strategy part of it again. What happens is the people that are up here that are followed by the speakers, they're being looked at by everybody else in the room because you're close to the stage where the actual speakers are. It's an interesting psychology of how people are following people. But even when I'm in that staging area, people are clicking on my bio and following me just by being in that room. When I go onto stage and I answer questions or I, you know, add value to the room, they really follow me even more. But being on the staging area, speaking on the stage, and being a moderator, whereas you're helping somebody put people in and out of the audience and be in the room itself. They will follow anyone that speaks or that is highlighted on the page.
Hey, Beth, correct me if I'm wrong, that one is only if the speaker follows you though.
Yes.
Correct.
Isn't this section further down if— like there's 3 sections. There's followed by the speaker, people following the speakers and then general audience.
Yes.
So the key is one of the speakers needs to follow you.
Yep.
Okay, just— I just wanted to clarify.
Thank you, I appreciate it.
So Beth, I think the reason we can't find your room is if you're not following us, it doesn't show up.
You're right.
Yeah, that's the problem.
Right, I can't get into your room.
If we follow her, it should—
it's not showing up.
It's not showing up.
It's not showing up.
Okay, I'm gonna find it. I'm gonna—
it shows for me, but I think you follow me.
That's the only reason.
Yeah, I'm gonna have to start an open room. So anyone that doesn't follow me, you should be able to find the open room. I don't know how much time I want to take here, but I think you guys get the gist of how this works, right? Okay, I'm gonna, I'm gonna assume that's a yes. How do we find you in the open room? I have your profile up. You have to go to that other room, that other page. Sorry, go back to your hallway and click on the 9 dots. You have to find me there. You're not there either.
You're not on there.
Yes, you know, it's a beta app. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. But let me show you guys back in the room. So this little, little hand right here, that's how you raise your hand. So here I always say, if you're in a room— oh, there, here come people followed by the speakers, others in the room. Yeah, when you go into a room, I'd like you to immediately raise your hand. See, Robin's going to raise her hand. I'm going to click on it. Sari is going to raise her hand. I think I'm following all you guys now too, but everyone can come up to the stage that way. I just, I would like everyone to raise their hand when they go into a room, especially if it's a bigger room, because the purpose to be there for me is always to be able to speak in the room and add value. So by just going and listening is great, but if you can get on stage and really interact with those experts, even if you say 3 sentences, it's a good, it's good practice in the, in the app itself, but it's also exposure for you. Because being on here is not just about connecting and learning, it's really getting your face out there and being exposed to different audiences that you're not normally exposed to.
Hey Beth, I have a question.
Yep.
Is there a function under the followers tab where, where you can search so you don't have to scroll down through a couple hundred people? Do you know?
Um, which— on the—
on, on like your followers tab. So if you click on your own, because I'm, I'm trying to find you and I know I'm following you, but I can't find you, which is weird.
I think it's not there. Like, there, there isn't like a— other than finding me here in the search here and finding me there, there's no other place to find to do it that way.
Yeah, you can't do that. Yeah, they need to do that.
Okay, the functionality is not there yet.
Got it.
Okay.
I also, on you, when I was on your profile, I was able— like, now I can't reproduce it, but I was able to click on something that said anytime Beth is active, notify me. And so when you started that room, I got a notification and that's how I could go into your room.
Awesome. So I'm going to show—
I finally got in.
Yay!
But I have you coming through the phone and the computer.
Turn the volume off on the phone. So I'm going to go into another room and click on somebody and you'll see if I follow her, That, that little, that little bell comes up. That's what will give you that notification every time you go in. Let's see if I can do it here. So I'm going to follow Sherry. If I click that, I can follow her always, sometimes, or never ever. I don't know why the never ever is there, but I'll follow her always. So whenever she starts a room, I'm going to get notified. And then if you click this little star one, It'll show you people that she probably follows that I might be interested in. Okay, awesome. Oh, everyone's in the room. I'm so excited.
So when you raise your hand, you get that little—
raise their hand and wants to try raising their hand to come up to the stage. Let's see. That's for me. Now, Carol, the speaker, Julie, the speaker. Now you can come up to the stage and share value. But while you're there— Can you share that again?
I wrote a couple notes in the chat, but I'm not sure if you're seeing them.
I want you to click on yourself and put yourself back in the audience. After you're on the stage and you talk to people, if, you know, when you're done or you're gonna leave the room, just hit that, hit your profile. It'll say, I don't know if I can do it. Oh, here it is on the bottom. It says move to audience. You can move yourself out of the stage and onto the audience. How did you get— I don't like to leave a room while I'm on the stage, so I like to go into the audience before I get on the stage.
You have to put us on the stage.
Are there any more questions about the app itself? Because I do want to get some time to go over strategy.
I'm totally not clear on how to get in the room.
Actually, you know what? I'm not quite here. End room. I'm going to end the room. Awesome. Okay, everyone come back next week. I'll be there. Go to Brad's later. We'll share information later. Okay, so I'm going to go back to the— here. I want to show you guys a few more things and then I'm going to take some more questions. So we talked about being in a room, right? Go in, raise your hand, talk to the speakers, stay muted, make sure that if you're put on stage, you mute yourself, it doesn't automatically mute. Look while you're in the room, look at everyone else's bios, connect with them, send them— if you like what the speaker is saying and you want to connect with them, Connect, say, I mean, I'm in your blank room. I really like what you said about so-and-so, and start that conversation. But do it right when you're in the app listening to them. If you're hosting a room, or if you're in a room and they say a reset, what they're doing is because every 10 to 15 minutes there's kind of turnover and there's new people in the room, so they want to give their little spiel again, welcome the new people, and be in the room. And start, start the room again so that everyone's on the same page, because the conversation sometimes can get off. Or if you're not, it's an easy way to get back on the topic, because sometimes the topic of the conversation in the description isn't always what it says or actually is happening in the room itself. We went over that. So when you're hosting a room, I call— I think it's more like market research and a way to really connect with your favorite expert, expert. Gain more social following. When you reset the room, send them to your DMs, send them to your Instagram, say please go like me on Instagram, please go like me on Twitter, please send me a DM, tell them to do something. It's always about that call to action. But the best thing about having— exposing a new room is that people are going to come on that don't know you. So your exposure to the new audience. It also gives— I feel like it gives us like false sense of extra credibility when you're hosting a room. Because there's so many people that are still in there that don't quite understand how this whole thing works. So if you're hosting a room like Brad is hosting a room later, it gives you that extra credibility. But in the description, when you do host a room and we can get to that, you really want to have something that shows what the transformation is going to be when they come into the room, because that's your advertising, that's your exposure. What is that about that you're going to be teaching them? Why should they click on your room? It's got to be interesting. So really pay attention to what you're clicking on and why you think it's interesting because other people will too. A little bit more about your bio. It's what you do, who you serve, and what your credibility markers are. Again, that's like your calling card. It tells you all about you, what you're about, what you, what you do, and how you can, how you can add value to what they're doing. I'm going to go a little faster because I know we're kind of running out of time.
Quick question, Beth.
Yep.
So people have their personal Instagrams and they have their, their corporate, uh, their, or their business Instagram. Like me, my Clubhouse is tied to my personal Instagram. Is there a way to add the corporate Instagram as well?
Not add it, you have to add it instead.
You just have to add one? You can only do one?
Only one. So what I had to do, I have a personal and a I actually have 2 businesses and a personal one. I had to delete— not delete them, but not sign into them on my phone and just log in with my business one and then re-log into the other ones again, because it wouldn't let me log in, you know, connect the one that I wanted to connect.
Uh, okay. Thank you.
Um, we were talking about hosting a room. When you're in a room, good content, be the expert. And what are you going to do when you host that room? Are you going to coach people? Are you going to train people? Or are you going to pitch people? Right. People, people come in and give you their ideas. And depending on what you do as a media coach, I have people pitching me all the time, asking me if I think their story ideas are good. So I'm creating a room that people can come and pitch actually to the media right there in Clubhouse, which is just like a whole new phenomenon. When you're talking to your audience, remember their pain points. That's really why they're there. They want to solve a problem. And what's your CTA? And I've said it a couple of times today. What is your call to action? If you're hosting a room and you're not sending the people listening to you somewhere, you're missing out on an opportunity. Because they're, they're in, if they're in that room and people, you'll see people go in and out, but if in that room for more than a couple of minutes, they're interested in you, give them something to continue that conversation with. Okay. The clubs are a little confusing. So I'm going to try this. I'm going to go really simply with this one. When you host a room for 3 weeks in a row at the same time and the same day, you can apply for a club. A club for me, akin to a Facebook group. It's the same kind of idea, but there's no posting. So what happens is everybody in that club gets notified when you go into a room from that club. If you're— I applied for a club, it's called Behind the Spotlight. If you join my club, when I have my calls on Tuesday at 2 o'clock, you're going to get a notification that I'm online. I hope that clears up a little bit about the clubs. You can apply for a club in that frequently asked questions section. And then it's, it's getting people to follow your room and join your club as well as follow you. But what I'm finding is really easy, and a lot of people follow rooms. And set them up so that they're a part of an organization. There's a Women in Business, women spelled with an X. It's an organization, it's a national organization, and I've applied to host a room under their umbrella, which will bring a whole new audience to me as well. When you're looking at the rooms, if you see a little greenhouse on top of the name, that means that that person, that room, or that name is actually a club. And not just the person hosting a room. That— I hope that lands well. Okay.
One other quick question. Um, when you want to apply for a club, takes 3 weeks till you do, you know, basically 3 meetings at the same time. When do you recommend applying? Like week 2?
You have to apply after the 3rd room. So at 3:30, when I was done with the 3rd room, I applied. And it's taking about 3 weeks to get the club because they're manually entering them.
Okay.
Like I said, I think I said it earlier, like, make sure you're, you're reading the information about what's happening on the app because it's changing weekly. And for me, it's kind of exciting to see what they're doing or not doing, and then you can understand how it's actually working.
Beth, can I ask a quick question? I'm sorry I was late, so you might have said this already.
Is there a way to schedule a group or just a meeting time that's consistent every week, or do you just have to reschedule it every week? You have to reschedule every week. It's annoying. I'm sure, I'm sure it's coming. They just haven't done that yet. Yeah, then I would just schedule every Tuesday and Thursday, but they're not letting me yet.
I've also had people who want to get into here, but they don't have an iPhone. Is there any iPhone now?
It's not Android yet.
One of the hacks that a friend of mine, a couple friends of mine have done is they're doing it on their iPad. Even though they have an Android phone. So it's any iOS device.
Thank you. Yeah, I wish you could do it on your computer, but you can't. Okay, let's see what time it is. So let's go— a couple industry secrets, and then I'll let you guys ask any more questions you have. I would do that. Okay. So I'm so glad that you're on Clubhouse. I'm so glad you have a club. I'm so glad you have a room. But you have to also remember to advertise and market it outside of Clubhouse. Right. So I'm sure you're seeing it on Facebook and Instagram and even LinkedIn, the postings about coming to my Clubhouse room and a screenshot of that little Clubhouse information, right? So what I do is I, I can, I integrated it into my posting schedule. So you'll see a post tonight, you'll see a post Wednesday, you'll see a post Friday about my rooms. Because I want to make sure that people are coming to my rooms, post on every channel, Pinterest on what I'm finding. Is a really great gateway into Clubhouse. I honestly not a good Pinterest person, so don't ask me any questions about Pinterest, but people are finding great success using Pinterest. In the room itself and in your posting about the room, talk about the transformation, you know, and I wouldn't be like, come to my room to learn more about how to make cocktails. That's not that exciting. You know, really use your marketing chops to create something that's going to be enticing for them to leave whatever platform they're on to go onto their phone to go on to Clubhouse. Because that's what you're really doing. You're getting them to leave a platform. I think I said this before too, set up a link, sorry, URL on your website so that you can direct people right to your website to get your opt-in. I'm just finding lots of success there. And asking them to DM you that you can help. I was in a room on my Thursday room. I mean, I do it with Carrie Barrett, who is a media trainer, and Chris Hogan, who's a professional personal branding person. If you have a chance, come listen to him, connect with people and get them into his DMs. He's amazing. You know, if so, listen, listen to how people are doing that on the rooms, because not only are you listening for the information they're teaching you, but what they're using as a strategy to get you into their DMs to get your email address. So pay attention to what other people are doing. Also, a little more strategy. We are all early adopters. We really are. I think there's 600,000 people on the app. That's not a lot for an app when you think about how many millions of people are on Facebook. So I would lean into this for the next few months to see how it can work for your business. If you don't want to host a room, you're not quite there yet, think about moderating. I said earlier, moderators still get noticed because they're moderating the room and they're moving the room about. Um, every profession is on this platform. Find them. Connect with them. If you're an influencer, brands are getting into Clubhouse. I've been talking to some brands that haven't even thought about using Clubhouse, and now hopefully they'll work with me on Clubhouse. And exposure. If you are in a room, or you're hosting a room, and there's a lot of people in it, or there's somebody special in it to you, take a screenshot and post it on your social media. I was in a room with John Lee Dumas, who's a friend of mine. He's a huge podcaster. I took a screenshot, I circled him, I put it out there, and I got a lot of hits because people were like, oh my God, I didn't really— I didn't know that we could do that. They were really interested in that as well. And I think it's a way to really get your name out and have it connected to one of those experts in your field that you're trying to connect to.
Um, Beth?
Yep.
Um, I have people who want me to invite them in who I want to invite in, and—
but I'm limited how many people I can invite the whole circle with comes with the invites. You only get 1 or 2. I would tell your friends, ask, keep asking other people because I don't have any.
But then there's another way to invite people without using the invitations. Let me know, Beth, if you want me to share that.
Please do.
I don't know about that. Yeah. Give me, give me 2 minutes and then please share that.
Okay.
Yeah.
Just let me know.
Thank you. So a couple more branding tips, conversations or communication tools that can be used as demonstration. Like when, if you come into my room, you're going to see, hear me coaching people. That's my superpower. That's what I'm best at. That's why people hire me. So I'm showing my best foot forward, right? So if you coach or you sing, whatever you do, stand out that way. Don't copy people. That's it. Authenticity and vulnerability on Clubhouse is really the moneymaker. Really step into who you are. I can't tell you how many times when I share something or I'm saying that I'm struggling my marketing or I need help writing or Hey, somebody help me with my, edit my video. People wanna help and people are there and they connect with you when you're actually honest about what things are happening. Grow your audience organically. It's all about that connection, getting them into your funnels and following up, right? Answering those DMs, sending those DMs. It's really that important. Mix that, that, um, I'm gonna go back to this one just real quick. So content's king. If you have a unique story, Make a room and talk about it. I've been in— honestly, when I first started, I started rooms, there was nobody in it but me, and I would practice my speech because I wanted to have not only the availability of having me on the platform, but trying it out. Be yourself. Good headphones, so use your AirPods or your click-in headphones, because that's going to give you better sound, and the better sound you have, more people listen. If you have bad sound or background sound, people will come out of that room. In 2 seconds. Collaboration, find people to do it with. But the one thing I want to warn you about is that this is a— this is a big black hole that you can fall into for 5 or 6 hours. So really figure out how much time you have to spend in there. The first couple days, spend a lot of time. But like I said, there's those 24-hour rooms. I try to spend 45 minutes 3 times a week, and that's all I try to spend on there because I don't want to spend my whole life there and too much Too much stuff to do. Audio-based app, you know, we can, we can enjoy it different ways. My husband and I did a karaoke night the other night with a couple, with people who I've never met, and I couldn't tell you who they were, but it was a lot of fun. So really connecting with people, deepen those friendships. I have Clubhouse friends now, which is so exciting, and I, some of them I see here, and I'm seeing them on my social and my emails as well. So I really just ask you to just be yourself. And just try and dive in. And then I say, ready, set, go, tell your story and the rest will follow. Who— I'm sorry, I don't have the screen up, but I would love to hear more about how to invite people because I didn't know that.
Yeah, that was me, Sylvia. Okay, so I want to preface by saying, when you invite people to Clubhouse, you should personally know them. Or know of their reputation, because if they do something to get kicked off, you get kicked off as well. And I know, you know, so many of us are such, you know, open-hearted people and we want to invite everyone and their brother, but truthfully, stick to those people you know. Okay, having said that, if people are in your phone contacts like you have their name and their, um, cell phone number in your contacts and they have downloaded the Clubhouse app and reserved their username, then many times you will get a notification on Clubhouse that they are on the waitlist and it'll say, do you want to let them in? You hit yes So you are the one who has let them in, but you haven't used any of your invites. Does that make sense?
It does. I wasn't going to cover that part, so I'm glad that you did. I appreciate that. I want to go back. If anyone has any questions, you can raise your hand or unmute. I think I just saw a question. In your profile, are you only putting your IG and Twitter? How many— yeah, you can only put your IG and Twitter. You can put your usernames on everything else, like put your address for LinkedIn and Pinterest, whatever else you use, you can put that in there as well.
I think I got a question here. Okay, so when you invite someone to the stage and they ask a question or start talking, let's say they're inappropriate, you can cut them right off, right? I just—
you can move them to the stage. You can like, um, You can move them to the audience, but I don't think you can kick them out. I don't know. So does anyone have that information? I really don't know.
You can, you can definitely mute them and you can move them to the audience. And I do think that there's a way for you as the moderator to press their face, you know, their profile and kick them out of the room if you need to.
Okay, that was a good question, Brad. Yeah, let us, let me know what happens. I don't know that information. Yeah, somebody else. Did you have another question? I feel like somebody else had another question.
Oh, I had a question. Um, I went looking for my invites and I have a lot of peeps— not a lot, but several people pending, so they haven't accepted yet.
Yes.
And then I noticed that I, the other day, yesterday, said I had, um, all the invites used up, but then two more popped up today for invites.
Sylvia, can you— I don't really know much. Yeah, yeah.
Basically, um, if you are engaging in Clubhouse and, you know, moderating rooms and raising your hand to be a speaker, Clubhouse rewards you for the social interaction. Also, don't invite people that really have no desire to be active on Clubhouse because you won't get as many invitations in the future. So you're really rewarded when you're active and when the people you invite are active. Like, if we show value, then they're going to reward us with more invites.
Exactly. Thank you so much, Sylvia. I appreciate your— I appreciate the backup. Couldn't have answers to that. I wanted to really thank you, everybody. I hope you got a lot of information from this. I will be sending out a recording of this. I've also created— I'm calling it the Clubhouse Media Spotlight.
Bundle.
We're going to do some templates. I'll send you guys the information about that too, if you'd like to sign up for some of the bundles so you can have some templates to help create your greatest experience on Clubhouse.
Again, can I ask you, um, just how did you learn so much that I'm really falling behind and don't follow everything?
That's okay. So to be completely honest, when I was 10 years old, my dad bought me a Radio Shack computer And I've been techie ever since. I love tech. I, I want to be a grandma who knows like the newest and latest things that kids are using. I'm going to be that grandma with like whatever, whatever we have at that time. But I'm really techie and it comes naturally to me. I think that's why I figured it out. So don't feel like you're behind the ball. It's one of, it's one of the things that I'm good at. If tech's not your thing, it's not easy and it's kind of confusing. So I wanted to do the class was for that too.
I'm sorry, you kept exploring is what it is.
You did just keep using it and just see what happens. And it's just, you know, when you're listening to other people and you're seeing how they're doing things, I take notes. I always take notes when I'm in a room, either if I'm learning something or I'm seeing how the strategies they're using, because you can tell which rooms are about a conversation, which rooms are about getting people into your programs.
This was something that I was hoping you covered, and I'm not sure if you did. I lost volume for a little bit. There was, um, the little gray box showed shows that someone's speaking, right? Like, you know, any group, right? It's— how do you know who's speaking? Is a little tiny gray? Am I correct?
Yeah, around their face will be like a little gray circle, and that's the person that's speaking, and it flashes.
What's crazy is like, you know, when it's one of the main speakers, that's easy to spot. Like, let's— there's 6. But when it's somebody else, it's really hard to find.
Yeah, I agree.
Seriously, that's how it is? Like they haven't figured out something better yet?
Yep. Right. You know, but they really ask for feedback. I send them an email through the frequently asked questions. They really want feedback and they're listening to what we're saying because we're their market research. We're seeing how we use it and how it works while they really build out the rest of it. So give feedback and see what's happening.
But also you'll notice that there are many speakers and moderators that are very intentional and they will say their name. I think that's a great best practice. And if we could all start doing that, I think it makes it a lot easier to follow and use.
Oh, I agree.
I'll say it at the end. At the end, at the end, I'll be like, thanks so much. My name is Beth Nydek and you can find me at Beth Nydek on all media platforms or whatever I'm pushing to.
It's been my own mercy when someone says, okay, we're going to have Sam on. Then I'm like scrolling through looking for Sam. Like, it's ridiculous. Like, it's not a little bit more savvy.
You know, I'd appreciate that. I want to keep— I just want to be cognizant of everyone's time. I'm willing to stay on if anyone has more questions, but please, thank you so much for being here. This is my first— honestly, this is my first class where I had this many people on. I was a little nervous, but when I came on and saw your smiling faces, I really appreciate you. Again, Beth Nitek on all platforms. If you have any questions about this, about media, about having an online business, please reach out. I'm here to answer questions. Um, because I feel like if I succeed, the only way that happens is if we all succeed together. So thank you so much.
Can you send them?
Thank you, Beth.
Thank you.
Thank you so much.
So much.
Bye-bye.
Bye.
And I want to thank Sylvia too.
Yeah, thanks.
Thank you, Sylvia.
Yeah, yeah, it's a pleasure. I have a 21-year-old son who is on the platform all the time, so I learned everything from him.
He's sending the replay.
Yeah, I'll be sending everyone the replay.
Yeah, but when though? I needed it soon. So are you doing it?
I'm going to send it to my VA as soon as she gets it out. Within the 24 hours you'll have it.
Thanks so much, Beth.
The deck, you have the deck as well. Thank you, Brad. Brad, what is your room?
What is my room? It's the Basics of CBD and Pets at 7 o'clock Mountain, so that'd be 9 AM or 9 PM Eastern.
CBD, and it works great for pets. That's awesome.
Thank you.
Thanks, Brad.
Good luck.
Take care.
Hey, Beth, what's the name of your, uh, club you're creating?
It's called Behind the Spotlight. I didn't even talk about— I have a podcast called Behind the Spotlight. Oh, right, right, right. So, um, so the way I'm branding— I didn't even talk about branding at all, but since you guys— if you guys want to listen and talk about it, like, everyone can unmute, we can have a conversation. Like, the way that I'm branding is I think my room this week is Come Media Pitch: Behind the Spotlight. So everything connects to my branding. So if you have like a product name, make sure that's in everything that you're doing so that people can recognize that. And if your business has a name that's not your name, I think your club should be that name. I work with a woman named Sabina Hutchin. She asked me this question earlier. What should she use? Should she use Sabina, or she should use her her company's name. And because she's a membership site for media and she goes, that's where she wants people to go. I told her to use Press for Success instead of her name because that's what people are looking for on the platform. Great idea. You know, you can, and your photo can also connect to your branding. I'm actually getting new photos because my color's orange. And when you look at, you know, when you look at a sea of people on here, what stands out? It's people with bright colored backgrounds. So I'm changing mine to have a bright colored background so I can stand out more. There were people that were doing like different colored rings to try to look like they're verified, which is like that check on Instagram and Twitter. There's no verification on Clubhouse. And they actually made people stop doing that.
Yeah, I like that idea about consistency of your photos. I was trying to make sure I do that for my not only for Clubhouse, but the same picture for my Instagram and the same picture for my Facebook. So everybody, oh yeah, I remember her face. Yeah, I haven't changed it yet, but I will.
So they can find you because people will say to me, oh, you were in such and such a room with me, I remember your photo. And you'll start recognizing like the people that come to my room when I see them in other rooms. I'll DM them, hey, we're together in this room, you know, I'll see you on Tuesday at 2 o'clock. And they're showing up. Yeah, so it's just using your marketing, but I'm really just connecting. Like, I want my online— I want my Clubhouse friends. I got my Instagram friends, I want my Clubhouse friends. And I'm really— if you can tell, I'm really enjoying it. We're having these amazing conversations. And like I said, I did karaoke the other night. So on February 19th, the Clubhouse TV network, which is not affiliated with Clubhouse, is doing a 24-hour audiothon. And they auditioned everybody from and on Clubhouse. So the actual auditions for— it was singers, actors, comedians, and I don't remember the other one, but they auditioned everybody on Clubhouse from Clubhouse for the Clubhouse telethon. Like, they performed Antigone a couple weeks ago on Clubhouse. So really exploring, like, whatever your hobbies are, whatever you're interested in other than business, it's there to find out. Especially if you have kids, it's, you know, put one AirPod in, you can listen to them and pretend to listen. No, no, no. Yeah.
So maybe later I might talk with you about branding. You were talking about using outside brands. I didn't know if you meant brand like just being specific Nike or McDonald's. I don't know if they'd necessarily want Clubhouse, but I would love to chat with you about that later.
I was talking to a health and wellness company. I use a It's a powdered fruit and vegetable mineral drink that I drink every single day. And I talk about a lot on Instagram. And I reached out to them and I said, hey, I'd be interested in working with you for a Clubhouse room. And they were like, what's Clubhouse? So I educated her on what was Clubhouse. And I'm waiting for a contract to see if they really want to go ahead and work with me. Or I'll be educating, you know, it's my health and wellness side of me, not my business. That's really what I'm interested in as a person. And I was like, why not get paid for talking about things that I love? On Clubhouse too. So it's gonna be on all my social, but including that was like an upsell for that marketing.
Right.
My business or for my personal brand, not my business.
That's very, very interesting.
It's amazing what like, and it's a wild west because there's no rules. Yeah. Like I searched to see what people were talking about. There's nothing out there. And that's one of the reasons that I did this. And then I'm creating this bundle to go with it because people need help and it's— no one's doing it yet, so why not step out front and do it?
Yeah, it's— I think this class that you did was really helpful. I mean, a lot of it I figured out on my own from the last couple of weeks, but there's a lot of people, yeah, they would love to skip all the poking around and not miss out on some great opportunity. So thank you very much for putting it together.
Thank you, Terry. Thank you so much. Anyone else have any questions? No, we're good.
No, thank you so much.
So thank you, everybody. If, like I said, if you, you know, come, I'll follow you, you follow me, and if you have any questions, please reach out. I'm always here.
Thank you.
Good night.
