Mid-Morning Meeting

A founder missed capturing leads after appearing on Dr. Oz because his website opt-in was broken, a failure he's turning into a Fast Company article. He argues visibility without preparedness wastes opportunity, and entrepreneurs should repeatedly share their wins so audiences see their value.

Hey, hey, hey! Happy Wednesday! I did almost say Tuesday, but happy Wednesday! I got some morning energy. This week has just been amazing because I've been failing. Yep, you heard it right. I've been screwing the F up. I did things wrong. Things aren't working out. But you know what? I'm learning. And what I've learned this week is everything that we do— I always talk about it on podcasts and stuff, and I've had some amazing podcasts this week. Here's some of the podcasts I've been on this week, um, about space for failing and how you learn so much from it. And everything that we do is learning. And being that— if we understand that being an online digital entrepreneur is actually about learning how to do it and learning who we are and learning how we want to show up and learning all the stuff and failing forward, then we'll be a lot happier. This will be a lot easier, and then we can move through it because everyone fails and everyone screws up. I actually wrote Yes, I actually have an article coming out in Fast Company that's a little bit about failing and the things that I did wrong. And my big failure actually created my whole business because years ago I happened to be on Dr. Oz. I became a Dr. Oz blogger because I was in the food space. I went on, I had a great segment, I was wearing this amazing Ralph Lauren like red shirt dress and everything, all the stuff. The people on the show wanted to have me back and be a part of the blogging sphere they had working at that time. But what I didn't have ready was my business. So when I got home and I checked my website 2 days later, because who knows why I did that, my opt-in wasn't working. So all the people that came to my website from the Dr. Oz Show did not— I did not capture their emails. I didn't even get one email. And there were a lot of freaking people. And every time I tell that story, people go, oh, and I feel the same thing. But it created the space for me to see a hole in the PR system, in the coaching system, in the personal branding system. That really needed to be filled. Because having a great opportunity like the Dr. Oz Show or any national TV show and not being able to leverage it, not being able to use it to make money— because you and I do not have hobbies. I hope you don't have a hobby. You and I have actual real businesses that make real money to support the things that we want to do in our lives, like groceries, college, whatever it is that you're paying for. But understanding that your visibility needs to be leveraged, and the way you leverage that is being ready, and the way you're ready is to get support. That's, that's what I have. That's what I have to communicate today because I've been seeing so many people have amazing opportunities and not share them. Like, if you have a great opportunity, no matter what it is, it could be your local, you know, where I got my start, my local high school's TV station. Don't share it once, don't share it twice. I want you to share it over and over and over and over and over again because it doesn't matter about the time. I was a doctor. I was in, um, Oprah several years ago. Watch my— watch my feed, you'll see Oprah coming up again and again and again. I actually, um, tell the story that I was introduced to a woman who was a cookie maker. This was probably 5 or 6 years ago, and she— her claim to fame was that she did all the cookies for Bobbi Brown's, uh, fashion show in the '80s, people. She was still leveraging the crap out of that in 2008, 2018, '17, before the pandemic. But I just want to give you that so that you understand that no matter what you've done, sharing the accomplishments doesn't have a statute of limitations. So what are you not sharing? I want you to here answer the question, what are you not sharing and how are you going to share it today so that your people can see your genius and they can come into your environment and that you can help them to make what? An impact on the world and create your own possibility for success. Have a great Wednesday.
