Brian Kaskavalciyan argues that traditional long-term goal-setting doesn't work for most people. He skips goals entirely, focusing instead on results and who you're becoming. Only about 8% of people actually achieve their written goals.

In order to grow a great business, in order to grow a great life, you kind of gotta look at what you're doing, but you also gotta look at who you are being. I try not to use goals at all. I talk about results, outcomes. The majority of people will never attain, reach a goal. You know, those exercises that when we were younger and we would go to like seminars and stuff, they would say, well, write out your goal for 10 years from now. How the hell am I gonna know 10 years from now? And then they say, well, then take that 10-year goal and break it down to 5 and then to 3. And then to 1, and then break it into quarters. And I'm like, how the hell do I do this? And I would walk away, and I think not only me, I think the majority of people would walk away with like, this is so daunting, you would never get anywhere.
I did it for years. I've written down my top 5 goals and I don't ever achieve them. And I'm not knocking daily affirmations and goal setting. And for the 8% of people out there that it works for, that's great.
