The one thing I would tell my younger self before starting out in business is, Brian, get clear on why you are doing it. Why are you in business for yourself in the first place? Don't just chase after revenue. Understand what you really want your life to look like, how much money you actually need, and what you'll do with the money. That's why I created the 4 Numbers Exercise. It forces you to define your income goals, —your lifestyle goals, your freedom goals—so the business serves you, not the other way around. If I'd had that clarity early on, I would have avoided years of stress chasing the wrong things. Profit isn't the end goal. It's the tool that gives you the life that you want.
