Special Episode - Generating Productive Thought Patterns | Brian Kaskavalciyan

Brian Kaskavalciyan walks through how fear-based thoughts create limiting beliefs that tank your business and mood. He breaks down a three-step shift from fear to faith: identify the thought, question where it came from, reframe it toward abundance. Your mental stance directly affects your team, your decisions, and your bottom line.

Hey everybody, Brian here, and I hope your summer is going well. This is an extra or bonus podcast episode that I had no idea that I would be recording right now. It's Saturday, it's the end of June, and I'm going to be getting on a plane here very soon and going to be gone for a while. And some thoughts came up in my head I've been feeling a little weird this last week or so, and I'm sitting, you know, trying to figure out, well, what's going on? Why do I feel kind of weird? Because there's a lot of uncertainty, I think, in the world right now. There's a lot of talk about recession. There's all this talk about inflation, and we're fighting about everything, it seems. You know, as Americans, we're fighting about everything, and there's just a lot of uncertainty. And so I've been thinking about that unknowingly the last few days. I've been kind of like, well, why am I in a little bit of a funk? And so I really like this morning been, I'm running around doing errands and I'm really thinking about my mental chatter, you know, like what am I telling myself in my head? And I caught myself earlier saying, God, there's so much stuff going on right now that's out of our control. And I think that that could make us— well, at least I think it did for me. It made me a little like down, I guess. Is that— down's not quite the right word, but for lack of a better word. Just in a funk. And so it goes back to something that I always say, you know, we can't control what's happening externally outside of ourselves, but what we can control is what we think, what we believe, and what we do. Those are the things we can control. And yet, and so Knowing this, you know, there's a difference between knowing and acting, knowing and doing, and just knowing it is not enough. And so what I've been doing for the last hour or so, and I think that's why I decided to just turn on the recording and see if this might be useful to anybody else out there, is I've really started to think about what I'm thinking about. And change those thoughts and change the beliefs and change what I do. So, for example, if you're thinking about the external economy, inflation, gas prices, I'm just using that as an example because that's so top of mind right now with everybody. If you're thinking about that, you're kind of worried, well, how is that going to impact me? How is that going to impact my life? Well, you could go off onto a tangent and go into a funk like I did. And instead of that, what is a more productive thought pattern? Now, by the way, I'm talking to myself as much as I'm talking to you. But what is a more a more productive thought pattern? Well, a more productive thought pattern is, well, yes, it exists, but I'm gonna fight through it. I'm gonna get through it no matter what. Yes, it's bad. Yes, it's having an impact, but I'm gonna get through it. I'm not gonna let it derail me from my goals. But here's the interesting thing: you could tell yourself that, but what you also have to check is what is the underlying belief behind it. So if your belief is, oh man, I can't control this and they have power over me— they in quotes— then you could tell yourself that all day long and it's probably not going to change. So what you've got to look at is the the belief that's underneath it. And so what's the belief underneath it? Well, maybe my business is not as healthy as it could be. Maybe my business is not as profitable as it needs to be in order to weather this storm. Maybe I don't have the right people in the right seats. To weather this storm. And so you've got to go to work on the belief system that's underneath the thought structure. And then the last thing is, what are you going to do? How are you going to act? So, you know, look, my family says this all the time. I'm grumpy. And last night I was grumpy. In fact, I was grumpy this morning when I got up. And, and so that's an action that I was taking. I was being grumpy and I was aware of it. And when I'm being grumpy, do you think that my belief system is good? Do you think that my thought structures are good? No, I'm thinking about being grumpy. I'm thinking about, well, you know, I'm just grumpy. That's it. I want to be grumpy. Okay, well then what are you going to continue to get? In my case, I kind of snapped out of it last night, but I had to work at it. I really had to work at what I was thinking and what I was doing. So that brings me back to kind of this morning and my thoughts behind, well, why am I in this funk? Why was— why am I being grumpy? I am about to leave on an incredible vacation that we've put off for, you know, 2 years. My office is humming along. We've had the best first and second quarter ever. Our team is amazing. They basically told us go Go have fun. Don't worry about a thing. We got this. Oh, and by the way, when you come back, pretend like you're still on vacation. We got this. I mean, that's like pretty amazing to hear. But I'm still grumpy. So what's going on? And I realized today, it's like I'm thinking about all these external factors. How is it going to impact you? How is it going to impact me? Then I realized when we're thinking about thoughts, when we're thinking about beliefs, I think a good way to look at it is in every moment we have a choice. We have a choice in what to think. We have a choice in what to believe and we have a choice in what we can do. Thinking, I believe, comes from one of two places. Your thoughts are either going to come from a place of faith or they're going to come from a place of fear. Now admittedly, I think that my thought structures in the last couple of days have probably come from a place of fear. And so I've had to really sit and think, well, what are those fears? What am I afraid of and why am I allowing those thoughts into my head? Why am I allowing those thoughts to dictate what I believe and what I do? The opposite of fear is faith. It's in the belief that all is going to be fine. And it's interesting because it takes just as much effort to think one way as it does to think another way. And so what you think right now, what I think right now, is going to lead to what I believe right now, which is going to lead to what I do right now. And so I could think bad thoughts, start to believe bad things about the world around me, and then start to act like an idiot or a dork or an unhappy, grumpy person. We all have this choice to make every moment of every day. And right now I'm working through it. I'm replacing my bad thoughts, my thoughts that are rooted in fear, with thoughts of faith and belief in the future. Now look, you could use— I always say this about faith, you know, you could take it religious or you could just take it the word as it is. It is either way, it's believing in something that's unseen, unproven, right? And so if, for example, right now you're having a hard time finding good people Well, you have to be careful in what you say. You have to be careful with what you say leading to beliefs like, "There aren't any good people out there. I've tried everything." Well, the reality of it is, no, you haven't. If you could switch that thinking around to say, "There are lots of good people out there and they are ready to come and work with us. I just have to go out there and get them. They'll show up. Now, this isn't magic. This isn't supernatural, although there might be some of that in there. But this is really all about what you are sending out to the universe and to the world around you. Are you sending out positive messages or are you sending out negative messages? Because either way, that's what you will attract into your life. And again, I have proven this to myself over and over again, even just yesterday. You know, Charlie Gindell, my good friend and client who's now retired, always says— and I love this line— he says, I'm constantly amazed at how stupid I am, and that includes yesterday. I hope I got that right, actually, but it's something like that. It's basically understanding that every day there's more to learn. Every day there's something new. And I hope this message finds you well. You know, summer is starting. Things might slow down a little bit in your company. Don't let it get you down. It's just the natural order. It's the natural cycle. If things do slow down, work on your thinking. Check your thinking. One of the best things, one of the most powerful uses of your time as an entrepreneur is to sit in silence and examine your thinking and your beliefs. You can rewire both. You can rewire your thinking and you can rewire your beliefs. You can go from being afraid— although when I say afraid, I don't mean— let's be clear about this— I don't mean, you know, physically afraid for your life like dinosaurs are chasing after you. I mean subconsciously You don't completely understand it, but the actions that you're taking are not somebody that believes. The actions that you're taking are the beliefs of someone who is scared. The thinking is someone that is scared. And so again, the best thing, one of the best things that you can do as an entrepreneur is take some time out and examine your thinking. And examine your beliefs. And when you discover negative thinking, when you discover negative belief systems, write them down and then go to work on them. Ask yourself, is this coming from a place of faith or fear? And if it's coming from a place of fear, how do you flop that around and change it to thoughts coming from a place of abundance, faith, belief that everything will turn out just fine. Last thing I'll say, I know how that just sounded. "Oh, everything will just be fine." Sunshine and rainbows. Well, we all know that the world is not sunshine and rainbows all the time. Think about it. If you want to develop, you need to be resilient. You need to be strong. You need to be in command of your thinking and in your beliefs and in what you do so that you will achieve your goals, so that you will have a better shot at creating the life that you want for you and for your family and for your team and for those around you that you love. The stronger you are, the better you'll be for everyone around you. So I hope this message finds you well. Again, it's the beginning of summer. I hope this message finds you well. You will be hearing this— I'm not sure when, But I will be gone. Hopefully I will be on a beach somewhere and I will be thinking happy thoughts and I will be sending happy blessings your way. And can't wait to see you at the next event. Let me know what you thought about this. And until next time, this is Brian Kaskavalciyan and this is the Wealthy Contractor Podcast.
