How to Make Your Images Sell

For jewelry and fashion sellers, small low-resolution product photos kill conversions, especially on mobile. Use edge-to-edge, high-resolution close-ups that show sparkle and material quality. Move shipping thresholds to cart and strip the page down to essential facts.

What if I told you that the most important thing any jewelry brand or fashion brand can do to improve conversions is improve their imagery? It is honestly the most powerful CRO lever you can pull. Well, in this video, I'm going to show you what this brand is actually doing wrong and how they can actually fix it to improve their conversions. So watch this video to the end to learn how you can actually leverage your images better to unlock more sales. Let's dive right in. Okay, I'm going to open up your page on mobile view. The reason why I'm doing this is because the majority of e-com traffic on Shopify browsers and buys on mobile. So it is the most important device to actually look at when doing any of these audits. And of course, a lot of stores, they don't optimize their mobile platform, which is where a lot of your optimizations can actually come from. So let's go through this. I'm going to view this in a window size of 650 height. That will show me what on most devices is actually visible at any one time. Okay, so let's go through this. Okay, I will tell you the first thing that I can see straight away that you can do to optimize this. I've worked with a few jewelry brands in the past. And one of the key principles or the fundamental thing behind success, I guess, in the jewelry space, you could say, for Shopify stores is your imagery. And it's the same with fashion brands. Your imagery is the biggest lever, one of the biggest levers you can do to move your conversions. The reason being is people are buying something that actually is on the— it's like an emotional purchase. You know, buying a piece of jewelry, buying a t-shirt or buying a premium hoodie. It's an emotional purchase, you're going to wear that. And it all comes down to how good it looks. And so the most important thing that determines whether someone buys or doesn't buy is the images you have on your store. So above anything else I'm going to talk about on this audit, the biggest thing that you can do is looking at your imagery that you have in your product carousel and seeing what you can do to improve your imagery. What I would say is this photo over here, I I think is a little bit better than this first one. This first one is really small, really small to actually see what it looks like on the person. Okay. So I would actually say that this image is actually better. And overall, I'm not a fan of how small your images are. Like if you look at a lot of other jewelry stores out there, like really successful ones, you will see a pattern. They have their images are huge. They stretch from the edge of the screen all the way to the edge of the screen in most cases. You know, the reason being is that's the biggest thing they want people to actually see. So what I would say is see if you can actually move yourself onto a different theme, or see if you can get a developer to change your images so that instead of putting them in these small little boxes over here, you expand them so they're bigger, so people can actually see the detail of the jewelry a little bit more. Like, use actual higher quality images. You don't want to have someone to zoom in even in here to actually view it. And even when I zoom in I'm not able to see any of the intricate details. When I zoom in, I need to see the sparkle of the jewelry. That's a key indicator that I need to see for a fashion, for jewelry brand. This one is a little bit better. You can see it's a better quality image, but again, I still think the image is too small. So you could crop this, and what you should do is you should do a close-up photo. So you should get one of your images or take a new photo that actually shows a close-up. Show a close-up of the chain to show the quality of it. And show a close-up of the actual, you know, the jewel itself in the center, like a real close-up photo of this that actually shows it in really good detail. Okay, so you need really good imagery for this. That's the biggest thing that you can do to really move the needle for jewelry brand. Now let's go through the rest of the stuff. So Ellie necklace. So this is, this is what I'm going to say. A lot of brands, by the way, they do this, they have, they give people like add to cart information before they've even really won the sale. You haven't won the sale yet. And you're already telling people that, okay, you need to spend X amount to get free shipping, you need to spend X amount to get a 10% discount, you need to spend X amount to get a free gift, but you haven't won the sale yet. That's why in most cases, this information should be communicated in your cart, in your bag. Okay, so it should be communicated there instead, because that way, the only people who are going to see it are the people who've already added to the cart, they've already taken the first step to actually you know, winning the sale. Okay, what you actually need, or the information that's more important, is information that's going to win you the sale. So information such as this, you know, is it anti-tarnish? Is it water and sweatproof? Pocket friendly? All of this stuff is actually more important. So I would focus on the anti-tarnish, I would focus on the water and sweatproof. Pocket friendly, that's not a really important one, because I think most people, they can actually see that. They can, they can tell that from the actual image itself. But change that, let's change the third one with another point. You know, maybe you could talk about the actual metal that it's made of. What is the actual jewel in the center? What material is that? That information is really important. And that's obviously going to help people decide whether they want to buy or not. You have it down here. Okay. But see, see this information, don't make people have to work for it. See if you can take out this information here that you know people are going to engage with, that you know people are going to want to read before they buy and replace this section up here with that information. Again, the principle that I'm explaining here is make it easier for people to learn about your product, the key bits. You don't need to give them all the information, give them the pieces of information that are really important to them. The material, you know, the tarnish information, and of course the price, and of course improving your product photos. Those are going to be the most important parts that I'm actually recommending that you improve here.
