How To Optimize Your Shopify Product Page

A CRO consultant reviews a Shopify product page redesign, recommending a pricing strategy where the base tier stays full-price to push customers toward bundles, per-item pricing displays, and auto-selected subscribe-and-save with a 10-15% discount. The session covers split-testing variants, visual hierarchy tweaks, and replacing young-model photos with UGC-style images of middle-aged women to match the actual customer base.

Okay, I'll just give you some quick feedback and then you can go into more because I think you probably have some specific questions for me. These things need to be in hierarchy. So the smallest, your smallest tier offer, I wouldn't discount this. I would try not discount it if possible because you want to make people avoid that as much as possible. So people, your lowest tier item, you want to then reward people for upgrading and spending more money with you. That's how, you know, it always works in human psychology. If we're doing— if we're trying to get people to subscribe on first time, we got to make the lowest tier item the least desirable for people to nudge them up. And then with this visually, you want to make the 1-month supply look the smallest visually. So if I go back, I've got this open, so this will work. See the way the little 1-month supply is the smallest?
Mhm.
Yeah, we've actually— we've actually deliberately made it a little bit smaller Why? So that it look— this looks visually, I'm going to get the most amount of value. This looks like I'm going to get the middle amount of value. We've tested this order form. We've gone through like 8 or 9 variations, this order form. A lot of ad data was spent on this. See how you've clustered up all the information, the $25 each. This information I would put as your, as your price. So this is— see how we've done it for real. It's $40 each, $36 each, and then we're putting the savings and then we have the 20% off and then the more supply.
But I do, I agree with you with the first one not discounted.
What I would do is I would split test, split test two things. So I would split test keeping your current offer as you have with everything discounted so we can see how that performs. The second one, I would change this so it's $69. but we have to remember this is you're offering 2 items. So we're dividing that by 2. So that's $69.98 divided by 2. So it's gonna show it $34, $34 each. Oops, $34 each. It will say in here. So this is gonna say $34. This one is gonna say then 70, what is that? 75 divided by how many? 4, is it?
18. Yeah.
Well, so you can see the drop, right? See how by us communicating how much it is each, people can much easily, much more easily see the value of what they're actually getting. So it's not 79. They're getting this for 18. And then this is obviously the best. What is it? It's— how much is this? Per item? $16. Okay, so $16 each. How come you got $20 each over here? This is my math wrong because it is 79, I think.
So 80 divided by 4.
Apologies that I messed that up. Oh yeah, you're right. Okay, I don't know how I got 18. So 20, 16, and then 34. So you can see, man, it looks like they're getting a ton more value than what we're communicating. Your offer stays the same, we're just communicating it differently. So what I would say is don't show the price discount on this one, just show $34. This one, show $20. This one, show $16. This one, we're saying 50% off. 50% off, communicate that in your banner. So like how we do for ROW, you can use maybe bright pink. Something like that, or yellow, whatever you want to choose. I think yellow because it stands out. This is where you communicate the savings. So here you'd say most popular, most popular.
And then did you use the Catching Bundle, the app for the other brand, or is a custom?
No, we custom coded. Yeah, yeah, I know people don't like custom coding stuff because it's tedious, but then It just gives you more flexibility.
Yeah, you know what I mean?
I, I actually 40% off and then this is best value. Mm-hmm. And this is 50% off. So 50% off. And then down here is actually where you communicate the savings. So how much is one item on its own without a discount?
One item is $34.99. One tube, 34.
One tube without discount at $34.99. So 34 minus 16, 18 by 6, 108 minus 209 by 94. Double check my math on this, but, um, because I'm doing it quick, but I think they got $100-something savings on that. So that is what you put down here. Ah, down here.
Ah, okay. You will not show the total price, uh, at all.
I'm gonna— yeah, so that comes into my next area. So I'm getting to that. I'm gonna get into that. Uh, save. And then here we don't put anything. Okay, anything in this box? So nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing.
Okay, perfect.
So I'm just gonna show that. Okay, this is gonna show that. See how it's so much cleaner? So much cleaner. The information is easier to read. Okay. Okay.
So that the first one is, it will be $69.98.
So without discussing it, but you're showing, but you're showing it, but you're communicating it's $34 each, $20 each. So you're saying the word each, each. Now the next part. Is the part that I wanted to go on to. We're going to add in this section, frequency. You need to add this in if it's going to work like how we structure it, the frequency. And this is where you show your total order amount. So if they click on this option number 3, it will show the total order. So to show the total, total price— let me, let me double check this. Because that doesn't— something doesn't look right with this Figma. But I think— let me just go to the live example. Yeah, you— sorry, you should be showing the savings amount in here. So let me screenshot this again. See the way if I click on the one, the one ball, there's no discount on it. There's no discount going to be shown over here. If I click on the 3, it will show me the price slash. And this is how that works. Yeah, yeah, it's custom. It's custom.
And the subscription can change if the discount— if they subscribe, do you change it if they buy 2 months or 3 months, or it will be the same, the 10% for—
so you want to, you want to give them— so this subscription should be factoring in 10%, an extra 10% if they subscribe. So you should auto— okay. So I know that this is quite actually a few things going on with this, isn't there? There's quite a few moving wheels with this. So it should be auto default to subscription. Subscription should include a 15% off minimum. Well, 10% to 15% off bonus, 10% at the minimum. But this is already going to be factored into your preexisting discount. So when they— if they choose to go to one-time purchase, all of these things are going to update and they're going to increase by 15%. See how— you see how we do it?
Okay, because you pre-selected the subscribe and save.
Exactly. Okay, so we, we pre-select the subscribe and save and we pre-select the 2-month supply. This one up here, we— this is pre-selected. This is pre-selected, everything's going to include a 50% bonus. So then if they choose the one-time purchase, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, the prices all go up and they're like, okay, I'm better off subscribing, getting the extra 15%.
Okay, okay, yeah, okay, makes sense. Okay, and what about— can, can you give me a feedback in this section below, um, on the website? And the same link as before, we made this section specifically to, uh let customer—
what to expect, is it?
Yeah, so they are triggered by this section to buy more because we, we say to them after 30 days that they get the, the better results.
Okay, I would follow this structure. So this is how I would format it: 3 different tabs. You do a day 1, day whatever, month 2, day whatever, month 3, day whatever. That's how I would do it. So the before and after is obvious. On day 1, here we go. On month 2, here we go. On month 3. And you can use 3 different people. This person could be month 1, this person could be month 2, this person could be month 3. And then you give 3 different quotes. Quote 1, quote 2, quote 3. So it's a double, it's a double push. We're showing it visually, the transformation. We have a customer quote, so it feels really, really believable and authentic. Your headline is featuring your total customer count. And then we're reinforcing in the subheadline down here how easy it is to use, 3 minutes a day. So you see all the different selling things that are going on in that section. And then in the link, we have a section where they can see even more. So we can have that section further down the page. And then what I would also do is then try and bring, bring more before and afters into your carousel as well. Your, your, um, your list of— oh yeah, I think you already have them. So like, you already have these assets, man, so you don't even need to do much. These are perfect. But just show some at month 2, at month 3.
Uh, yeah, yeah.
And then find those quotes as well that go with it. So like, you've got some really nice, um, you've got some really nice assets, to be fair, man. Like, these are really nice genuine images. But you know what, when I look at your carousel, what's the word for it? Like, like, look at this image, for example. Which one in your mind looks better?
Like, visually, in my opinion, I don't know, honestly.
Well, this one, it doesn't look— it doesn't look— I don't understand what this is, you know? Like, you know, it works while you sleep. It just looks really— what's the word for it? I want to, you know, put a word to it. I don't want to just say how— why this is better. It looks better because it looks authentic. It looks like a UGC image, but the lighting is good. It still makes your product look good. This looks like it's in like a dark environment. I know that— I know she has the cream on her face, but it just, it looks like she's sweating. The font is kind of like weirdly placed and it's really hard to read. Just in my opinion, not a good image to put in your carousel. Again, you could say it works while you sleep. I'm sure you have some other asset. Look at all the nice assets you have down here. And I, and I, my biggest concern is I don't think people are seeing them because they're so small and they're so hidden all the way down on this page. I look at this one, man. My God, look at this image. You could use that for your listicle, for your landing page. Look at this. It's a great image. Why is it so good?
Because it's not our target. You know, our target is middle-aged woman. So this is very young.
Oh, okay. Yeah, yeah, of course. Of course. So if that is the case, then it's It's a shame that you can't get more middle-aged women to have to get these really nice, um, photos for you. I would definitely be doing that. Imagine if we could replace all of these assets down here with these type of women. Good. So, so I'm giving you an extra bit of homework. After you do all of this stuff and get those optimized, try and replace all of your assets that you have on your page with women for your target demographic, but make them this, this good quality. Because if we can do this, if you— and try and get the same shots like this. Imagine replace this lady with an older woman holding the two products. Replace this lady with an older woman who has really good skin. Why would this be good? Because your product— you can use this for hero section image. Your product is right next to the results, and they can see the results really clear, really clearly, like really good skin. So this would be an amazing asset to have for your landing pages, for your carousel. This would be great. Get more of these images. Okay, definitely, man. Seriously, that will help your conversions by a ton. I wouldn't be saying it if it didn't.
Yeah, yeah, we will try to do that.
Okay, thank you. Okay, cool.
Thanks.
Amazing.
Really appreciate it.
Hopefully you got some value. No problem, man, and happy to meet you.
