21 mistakes in one hotel room. So I often stay at hotels just to get design and hospitality inspiration for my properties, but sometimes I learn more about what not to do. This particular hotel room provided plenty of problems to learn from, so let's count them up. The key card holder powers the thermostat, which I find annoying because the moment you leave, the room loses its cool. 2, there's a flashlight mounted on the wall because apparently power outages are common here. 3, a discolored white fridge with ice buildup in the freezer. Nothing says budget vibes like that. 4, The bed covers are tucked in so tight it feels like my feet are being held hostage. 5. The wall art is crooked, too small, and crowds the TV. 6. Multiple old telephone jacks that no one will ever use. Blank plastic plates would be better. 7. The Wi-Fi info is hidden behind the no smoking sign. I had to call the front desk for help finding it. 8. The crown molding could look elegant if it matched the dark curtains, but instead it's a drab off-white color. 9. The hangers don't match. Half wood, half plastic. Just pick a type, please. 10. Still using individually wrapped bar soaps instead with modern liquid dispensers. 11, a mystery light switch in the bathroom that does absolutely nothing. 12, a telephone next to the toilet plus 2 toilet roll dispensers, unnecessary and unsanitary. 13, all the towels are stored inside the shower area, meaning they'll likely be soaked just when you need them to dry off. 14, only body wash and shampoo provided, no conditioner. 15, a hole in the wall near the shower that immediately sparks hidden camera paranoia. 16, a spring-mounted shower curtain rod that looks temporary and ready to fall. 17, dead bugs and dirt inside the light fixture. Always a bad look. 18, a 2-inch bathroom doorway lip that's begging someone to stub a toe or trip. 19, under-table lighting that works only on one bedside table, making the room look uneven and neglected. 20, wood finishing rubbing off on the furniture. This is why solid non-grain surfaces are better for touch-ups. 21, a light switch with a broken LED indicator, which just highlights inconsistent maintenance. So there you go, 21 small issues in one hotel room. Together they say everything about this hotel's commitment to 5-star stays. Days, or lack thereof.
