Zhao Long Dumplings opened in 2021 in Las Vegas's Chinatown Plaza, a well-known hub for regional Asian cuisine in the city. Founded by restaurateurs Andy Zhao and Maya Kwong, the restaurant quickly built a reputation for its handcrafted soup dumplings, or xiaolongbao. These delicate dumplings, originally from China's Jiangnan region, are filled with seasoned pork and a rich broth that forms during steaming. The name Zhao Long is a nod both to the traditional bamboo baskets used to steam the dumplings, and to Lee Xiaolong, better known as Bruce Lee. Besides dumplings, my friends and I tried several other items on their menu, such as crispy veggie rolls, spicy edamame, fried egg rice, dan dan noodles, and Thai iced tea. All solid picks, and the portions are generous. They recently announced plans to expand to a second location, but the original still delivers the essentials. Follow for more real deal eats around Las Vegas, because there's way more than just what's on the Strip.
