Just 45 minutes from Las Vegas, Nelson Ghost Town offers one of the most unique desert experiences in Nevada. Once a gold rush boomtown called El Dorado, it was known for producing millions in gold and for being so lawless even the outlaws avoided it. The Techatticup Mine was the center of it all. Today you can tour the original tunnels with stories of candlelit dynamite blasts, mine disputes, and a whole lot of chaos. The tour is 80 minutes for just $20, but I spent all of my time outside the mine poking around the area for free. The property is packed with literal tons of photo-worthy relics like rusted cars, vintage gas pumps, a mutated school bus, and even a crashed Navy plane used in the movie 3000 Miles to Graceland. Stepping inside the general store feels like waking up in an old Western time capsule. It's full of turquoise jewelry, antique tools, and a scorpion pendant or two. Whether you're into history, photography, or just desert oddities, Nelson delivers. Just remember, there's no cell service, you should wear solid shoes, and arrive just before sunset if you want to take some amazing magic hour photos. Follow for more hidden gems beyond the Strip.
