Caryn Meininger argues that avoiding fear makes it worse. Instead, notice where you feel it in your body, breathe into it for 90 seconds, and let it move through you. The fear dissolves when you stop running from it.

When you feel fear, what happens? We try to get rid of it. We don't want to feel fear, because why? Fear is uncomfortable. But what happens is the very feeling that you're trying to avoid is a very feeling that you're creating. So if you're walking in this room and you're feeling all this fear and feeling terrified and trying to get rid of it, you're going to project fear. When people come up and see you to your point of opening your heart, it's like presencing the fear. Fear, you're here. Where do I really feel you in my body, and I don't want to feel this. And then we're going to loop in our mind because it's like I'm trying to get rid of this feeling and trying to tell myself a story to get rid of the feeling. Instead of just being like, I'm really terrified right now, and I'm just going to feel where I feel this in my body, and I'm just going to breathe that in for 90 seconds. Because it only takes 90 seconds for an emotion to move through. So opening your heart, feeling the fear, feel the fear, your heart will open.
