Tradespeople often do extra work, materials, or labor without documenting it, then can't get paid because it becomes invisible. Document every change as it happens and bill separately, or you'll never see the money.

Most subcontractors give away things before they ever get paid. Extra labor, extra materials, extra time, all done to keep the job moving and keep the relationship nice and smooth. But here's what actually happens. Because nothing is formally recorded at the time, the extra work becomes invisible later. When you finally do raise it, it looks like that you're actually asking for something new, not something that happened in the past. The solution is simple. You need to document the change as and when it happens, for the small things as they happen, not after, and don't bundle them in together. If it's not recorded early, it's usually never paid.
