Construction subcontractors tell themselves they'll handle paperwork later, but postponing change orders and delay notices means they can't bill for extra work or delays. Without documentation, they lose money on projects.

The most common lie subcontractors tell themselves on site is, "I'll sort the paperwork out later," or, you know, "We'll just work this out later." Later normally means never, or later means too late and you've done something wrong according to the contract. You've not complied with the contract whatever way it's supposed to be. So it's kind of like kicking the can down the park. But subcontractors don't like doing paperwork. They're a smaller team. They got a PM doing the contract stuff on the side. It just gets pushed down. Then you've got to remember everything that you've done. And this is the money. When they ask additional stuff, that's additional money that you've been asked to do, or it's been delayed. That is a delay to your original scope. You need to get paid for it. So all of these things are how people lose money on construction projects.
