Subcontractors who don't negotiate contract terms early look inexperienced and end up with worse deals. Large construction companies expect you to push back. Not negotiating makes you seem green, not easy to work with.
A lot of construction companies think, wrongly so, is that if you try to negotiate your contract upfront, they're not going to give you the project because you look difficult. But the reality of the situation is if there's 5 people bidding and one person doesn't try to negotiate, the person doing that tender or that bid looks at you and goes, that guy's actually green. They don't know what they're doing, right? And we're going to get ourselves in trouble dealing with that guy because clearly they're green. And so that's, it works against you. So the game is they give you the worst contract possible and then they're expecting you to come back, right? That's all the big companies will negotiate. You should too.
