Construction firms hire offshore estimators in places like Pakistan to turn around detailed bids overnight. Being first with a quote often wins the job, so speed matters more than the cheapest price.

I like remote workers for subcontractors because you're able to get your estimating done, or whatever it is that you send to remote work, it can be done overnight. You can actually get it done really, really quick and to a very high standard, and you can actually make more bids. I was actually talking to a steel fabricator today, and he was saying that we've got estimators in Pakistan, um, and then he sends it to them at like 5:00 PM, and then the next morning the estimate is done. And typically, he knows that if I get my proposal into the client first, I typically win the project. It's more about being first with the quote than it is by being the cheapest.
