14 Apr 2025 · 7 min
Claire Sellers outlines a three-year plan to land paying clients: spend years one and two reaching out to 25-50 warm contacts and becoming ridiculously good at your service, then layer in community visibility through workshops and podcasts. Welcome to a solo episode of The Prosperous Woman. I'm so excited to dive in with you all today. The number one question I get and the number one thing that I see early entrepreneurs struggling with is how to get leads, how to get clients. I just did a poll on my Instagram and I think, I gave 4 options, like what's my niche, how to write content, how to get clients, and how to design my website. Over 30 people responded and I think 90% said how to get clients. So this is the thing that you guys, it's keeping you up at night. It's preventing you from really going all in because you're like, how am I going to get clients that are willing to pay so that I can actually make this business a reality? And here I'm gonna break it down for you in maybe a way that— Yeah. Other coaches aren't being so direct about, but I'm a truth teller. So here we go. At the start, okay, and I'm talking like years 1 and 2, really, really like year 1, in the beginning it's all about relationships and getting visible in a way that feels natural. Okay. Your warmest leads are always going to be people who already know you and and the people that they know. Okay? So think of it like you have a web and it's like you have maybe 20 people in your immediate circle. And I don't even wanna hear you say, oh, they don't need whatever I'm offering. You don't know that. It's not, that's not your decision to make. Because here's the thing, you don't know who they know, and then you don't know who those people know. We create a web of leads starting with your warmest leads that are the people that already know you. So what I like to do is I like to have people make a list of 25 to 50 people who you know, and I'd reach out to them and tell them, hey, here's where I am, here's what I'm offering, here's why it matters to me, here's how it can help you or someone you know. And then I just make it so easy for them to say yes or to pass my information on. Okay? This builds confidence because you're not just shouting into the void of Instagram. You're not just posting and praying. You're having real conversations with real people. You're learning, like if they ask questions, you're like, ooh, I should be more clear in that next time when I'm sharing what I do. Confidence will come because you've already reached out to 50 leads. Oh my God, amazing. That makes selling way easier. So it just, it helps what you're doing on the front end, which is what I call, you know, online marketing, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, whatever. What you're doing in your backend marketing is what actually helps create momentum. Now, the second piece here, so that's the first piece is like your warmest leads are going to be the people who already know you and the people that they know. Okay. So we really wanna start there so that you can build confidence and momentum. The second piece to how do I get clients is you just get ridiculously good at what you do and what you offer. The better you are, the less you have to sell because your results will just speak for themselves. And how do you get good? By serving more people, by doing the work, even if it means taking on a few clients at a lower rate or offering free sessions to build experience and get testimonials. Your first clients, and I hope this isn't, you know, shocking to anyone, your first clients are probably not gonna be some rando person that's following you from Instagram or TikTok. They're gonna come from real-world connections and referrals. So get into your community. Go pitch 5 coworking spaces that you wanna do a free workshop. Great. You've just created 50 leads. Go to networking events and practice your pitch of like, I help women create consistent $10K months within the first year of their business. Go tell that to 50 women. You've just created 50 leads. Go to local meetups, offer value, collaborate on events, speak in front of people, guest on podcasts. So many of you are just, you're like, I'm posting on Instagram and it's not working. And then that just gives you an excuse to spin out and feel disappointed. But here's the thing, you're not getting creative enough and you're not actually doing the work. And when you start doing the work, you will start seeing results. But here's the third part. You have to show up consistently. The more that you put yourself out there, the more opportunities will come. Once you've got some traction and experience, your confidence is going, we've got momentum, you know, you've had a dozen or so clients under your belts, people are starting to come to you. Then we can talk about layering on the things like lead magnets and newsletters and content calendars and automated marketing. And I don't really like using ads, but ads like—
Ads.
Then we can talk about all of that. Okay. But first, I really need you to infiltrate your network because those are your warmest leads. They just simply are. Those are the people that already like, know, and trust you. So your homework is, if you're looking for more clients consistently, make a list of 25 to 50 people that you already know. Share what you're doing, why it matters, how you help people, make it easy for them to say yes. Get out into your community, coworking spaces, networking events, meetups, offer free value in those spaces, host a workshop, collaborate on events, speak in front of people, podcast, guest teach, and show up consistently. The more you put yourself out there, the more opportunities will come, but you have to do the work. And after you do this for a solid year, everything will become so much easier and you will not have to put yourself out there in this way forever. This is a, you Years 1 through 3 situation.
Okay.
But this really lays the foundation for a steady stream of leads and clients. So bottom line, be of service, get really freaking good at what you do, and become a walking billboard for your work. The clients will come. I hope this was so helpful for you.
