I believe that everything with consciousness has its own energetic record or energetic blueprint of its entire existence, its entire past, present, and potential futures.
Welcome to the Prosperous Woman Podcast. I'm Claire Sellers, a business mentor and coach who is absolutely obsessed with helping you create the business of your dreams and your most prosperous life. Tune in for inspiring conversations with extraordinary women that will propel you towards becoming the prosperous woman. Okay, welcome everybody. I am so excited to be here with one of my mentors, Helen House. Helen, welcome.
Thank you, good to be here.
Helen is I say one of the most interesting people I know. She is— well, I'm going to let her introduce herself. But Helen, introduce yourself before I tell our— like, how do you describe yourself?
Well, I don't describe myself as one of the most interesting people on the planet, that's for sure. I don't know. How do I describe myself? Mostly I tell— like, usually people go to like, what do you do? And I've been a coach since 1996. I was on faculty for the Co-Active Training Institute for 26 years. I just left them last month with all good feelings in my heart. Prior to that, I was a professional glassblower. My background is in the arts. And I'm a grandmother and a parent of 2 wonderful kids, plus a bonus daughter. And— and a partner. And yeah.
Helen, I'm going to tell how Helen came into my life because it honestly, if I trace back the dots, you know, you were the root of my big transformation and, you know, what I call my big awakening. And I don't even know if you remember this moment, but I'm just going to kind of tell the story to ground everyone and how we came connected. So one of my other mentors, Deb Friedman, she saw me struggling to kind of figure out, you know, I was in my corporate job and I was trying to, you know, figure out what do I, what's my thing, what's my purpose, you know. This is the big question that so many people come to me with, and I'm sure come to you with in your work as a coach and, you know, as an Akashic Records mentor. And You know, people, they're dying to know what is my purpose, like, what's my reason of being on earth? And it's, it's almost maddening when you feel like you're in a job and you know that's not your thing, but you have no clue what it is. And so my mentor Deb saw me struggling and she said, Claire, I think you should go to this coaching program called CoActive. And I'm like, I never thought of coaching. I never thought of myself as a coach. I mean, I manage a huge team. I've always been a leader, but like me, a coach? And she said, please just trust me.
Mm-hmm.
And she had been and still is by my side through so many transitions, and I trusted her. I really trusted her. And I said, okay, you know what? I'm just going to sign up for the first course and let's see what happens. And at least I'll be doing something that will make Deb happy. That was my thought. And so I walk into this coaching program and I'm late because I was rushing from work and everyone's milling about this room saying, what is— Hi, I'm Brad. What's your dream? And this guy walks up to me and says that. I still have my coat on and I'm like, just probably looked like a ghost because I didn't have a dream. I didn't have a dream. I had no freaking clue. And I, I muttered from somewhere, somehow the word travel came into my mind. And so I replied to Brad, to travel. And then You know, you mill about to the next person and the next woman comes up to me and says, "Hi, I'm Cindy. What's your dream?" And I'm like, "Oh my God, what have I signed up for?" Like, these people are all so happy. And I said with a little more confidence, "To travel." And then the next person says, "Hi, I'm Barbara. What's your dream?" And I said, "To travel the world." And after about 15 times of doing this, I'm like, how long are we gonna freaking go around this room and people are gonna ask me what my dream is? I mean, I'm like, my dream is to travel the world. It's like all of a sudden my purpose landed in my lap.
Wow.
And I mean, that was just the first 10 minutes of what became, I would say, probably the most life-changing, transformative experience of my life, which was falling into CoActive, which led me to become a coach. And so I, of course, signed up for the whole program after that introductory course, and I met you on my second to last module, and you were teaching with your brother, and I just remember being so fascinated by you. I was like, who is this woman? Like, you know, just the way that you coached and held space with such carefulness yet courage. I just was like, I want to be like her when I grow up.
Wow. Thank you.
I was just so inspired by you. And so I always felt this, like, connection to you through, through our, you know, we were only together for what, like 4 days? But I just always felt this connection to you. And I don't even know why I did this, but I went up to you at the end of the course and I said, you know, thank you so much. I'm gonna be finishing my program in Singapore. And because I'm, I'm going to travel the world, you know, within, within—
Oh, give me this. Yeah.
Within 5 months of that, what is your dream? I had already gotten my, my company to agree to let me work remotely. I had found a work remote travel program called WeRoam, which, you know, facilitated all of my travel and gave me a community to travel with. And I was like, I had a ticket to South Korea one way. I mean, so this is for anyone listening who feels like they're in that place of just, I don't know why I'm here. I don't know what my purpose is. I feel lost. I feel confused. Let me be a testament. And I'm sure Helen can relate, just with yourself and seeing clients, things can shift so quickly. I mean, I'm telling you, within a month, I had already put all these pieces in place. 4 months, my apartment was sublet. I had just handled it. I moved out. I lived in New York for over a decade, so this was a huge deal. But I remember just something said, go tell her, like, go tell her. And so because we had— we didn't have that much one-on-one time together.
Yeah, right, right.
And I said, I'm going to be finishing my course in Singapore, but I just wanted to tell you, this was so amazing. And you said, are you going to Bali? And I said, yeah, actually I am. And she said, and you said, email me when you get there. And I was like, okay, do you remember this?
I do now. Yeah.
And I'm like, okay. And you know, you're the type of person that's just like, you just do what you say. Like, you know, it's like, I'm just gonna email this woman. I don't know why. So anyway, I embark on my journey, and I arrive in Bali at the lowest of low of low of low, and I'm like trying to go to all these healers and, you know, trying to find psychics and therapists. I'm like, something's wrong with me. Like, you know, do I need a psychiatrist? And I, I remembered, because I had forgotten, honestly, I remembered I emailed you. I said, Hey, I'm in Bali.
You said—
And you responded and you said, I think you should meet this coach named Tracy Abbott. And I mean, I've since, you know, Tracy, I want her to come on the show. She's absolutely amazing. I ended up doing a call with Tracy. Long story short, because hopefully Tracy will come on one day and can tell her—
Hey.
You know, but she ended up being my first coach and absolutely helped me transform my life, find the courage to leave my job, find the courage to start my coaching business. I mean, crystal clarity as much as you can have on my purpose. Like, I mean, that contact literally changed my life. And so I always root it back to you. Well, to me, for having the courage to go up to you for fun, which was my intuition. Just go tell this woman you're going to finish in Singapore. And then you connecting me with Tracy. So anyway, that was a long-winded story, but it's important for people to hear. One, follow your intuition, which we're going to be talking about today as it pertains to the Akashic Records. And two, you know, your life can change so fast and it literally takes one person, like one contact, one call, and like everything can shift.
Yeah.
And it feels like this daunting journey. And I have so much empathy and this is why I do what I do because I felt so lost and stuck for so long, so, so, so long. And literally as soon as I had the right people in my corner, Everything shifted.
Yeah.
Everything shifted. So, I just wanted to give people the background. In a nutshell, you're a master coach. You're so humble, but you are, you know, you're an OG CoActive coach. And you really are. And you're, you know, you've been on the faculty with them for so long. But what I, over the years, so then I came back to Helen because again, a few years ago, I got this hit, Akashic Records. I don't even remember where it came from, but I— and then I remembered you, you saying in, in your introduction in Co-Active, I also read the Akashic Records, like almost as if it was an aside. That wasn't something you really talked about. You just mentioned it. And so I remembered the Akashic Records. And so I emailed you and I said, do you do Akashic Records or did I make that up? And you were like, yeah, I do. And so then we started working together in the records. And I went to study with your teacher, Brenda Pell, which was so amazing. And anyway, I mean, we just have so many threads going here. So I want to give people the context of, like, I feel, like, so incredibly grateful for you and how you helped me change my life. And then you've been supporting me over the last several years. In our work with the Akashic Records, which is what I really want to dig into today. But yeah, any— yeah, what— when I share that, like, what comes up for you? I'm curious.
Well, you know, I was listening to your intro to, like, what this podcast is about, and you talked about that life force and purpose and magnetism too. But this is more about life force and purpose, I think, in this moment. Although magnetism maybe too. But it's like that when I'm doing— and I'll tell more about it later— when I'm doing work in the Akashic Records, it feels like that my job is just to help you get connected to like the truth of what the purpose is in this lifetime, the truth of how you're exploring and expressing and bringing that into being this lifetime, how that's growing you, evolving you, and bringing you even more into alignment with of yourself every day. And I think that when we hear those, you know, like when Deb said to you, you gotta go do CoActive, and you're like, what?
You know?
Yeah. Even though it made no sense, you're like, what? Okay, fine, I'll do one just to make her happy. And then you're like, what might, what my dream, like to travel, to travel the world, to travel, travel, travel. Like there's this sense of like you're taking those moments to like listen to the whisper, you know, listen to that thing. And the moment that you do that, it's like, the right connections get made, the right people come to you. Tracy was wonderful because she's so connected in Bali too. And I had a moment with her like I had with you long before she went to Bali where it's like, boom, she was in the moment of that activation too. So I really love formally going into the records, but I also love those moments when I listen to the nudge and say, you got to connect these people. You know, this is a moment of matchmaking that needs to happen. You know, this one and that one need to know each other. I don't know why. I don't need to know why. I just need to be a part of it, you know, a part of just making it happen. So that's what comes to mind with what you're saying.
I love that. I love that. And I think, you know, I was taught— first, explain to people what are the Akashic Records before I keep going.
Because there's—
just in case they have no clue, they're like, what are these women talking about? What are the records?
So if you Google it, you're going to be led down some scary pathways. I'll give you my perspective on it. It's not the end-all be-all truth. Okay. So I believe that everything with consciousness has its own energetic record or energetic blueprint of its entire existence. Its entire past, present, and potential futures. Not— I never say I'm a psychic because you're, you're in there messing with it with your own free will. And, uh, free will and destiny together lead to potential futures. So when I, when I take somebody into the Akashic Records, I, I take us through like a breathing exercise and get to where I can really feel them. I'm connected to them. And then I say a prayer with their permission. To open the Akashic Records. And as I'm going through that process of connecting into that space or that energy, that energetic blueprint, I'm being taken on a bit of a ride. It's like my primary way of receiving information is through clairsentience. I feel things in my body. So I'm being shown physically, like, what their soul's essence is, what they're up against, what they're, you know, what they— spirit or whatever is working on to bring them into alignment with themselves. And So I'm sort of taken through this, and then I start— I'll say that the records are open and start sharing it. There are other people who are very clairvoyant. They literally see this vast library and go to the shelf with the book on it and pull the book out and open the book. That's not my way of receiving information. So it's just a different method. We all have different methods. So that's the basic thing. The other thing I would say about it, though, is that that— Mm-hmm. Energetic Record is imprinted upon what's called the Akashic Field, or the Akasha. And that's a Sanskrit term, which loosely defined means, or loosely translated means, the fabric of life, or that which everything is made of. And they say that the essence of that is love. So when we're in the Akashic Records, it's all based in love. There's no judgment there. There's no— Right. Shaming there, there's no fear there, there's no, "Boy, you screwed up in this lifetime." It's really looking at what's going to be in your highest good to understand about and make sense of your life, your relationships, your situations. And I just bring through information for you.
Yes.
I'm just the messenger.
You do. I'm putting this in quotes, "just the messenger," but it's true. And I think— we're going to talk later in the episode around free will and destiny and kind of relying on outside sources, which we'll dive into. But the thing I wanted to say is that to me, and I'll ask you, what is the relationship between intuition and the Akashic Records? Because I believe everyone, and I mean, well, this isn't just me, but everyone has access to the Akashic Records. It's not some secret thing that like we're in a club because we went to this. It's everybody has access to the records at all times.
I think that that is primarily true. I would say—
If they want.
It's available to them.
Yes, it's available.
Not everyone tapped in. Which is different than they have access or are able to access it at any time.
Right.
I think that, you know, there are those who are— it's almost like they come into the world like Indigo children with wide open access to so much, right? And then there are those that have to kind of work through a lot more barriers to be able to get there. But I think that we've all had those moments, like, where we have this moment of clarity or a moment of insight or a moment of, "Oh, like, I knew that was not going to be in my best interest. Like, why didn't I trust myself?" You know, that— that kind of moment. And usually those moments where we really know something is going on, those are moments where we've tapped into what I would call the Akashic Records. And what I do is just make it more— I formalize it and just say, well, let's do it on purpose.
Right. But I think it's important for everyone to know that it's not, it's not something that's outside of them. It's available to everyone. And it's, it's a, it's a skill set and a, a focused presence that you can tap into. Learn to tap into.
Yeah.
It's not like you have this, a key to the library that, you know, no one else has.
Yeah. Well, I would also say, you know, I've I have worked with a psychic on occasion. I've worked with intuitives. Is there a difference? I don't know. I've worked with other Akashic Records practitioners. I, when I was in high school, my mother studied with a psychic who did deep trance reading, and I went and studied with him. So like, I've, I've had experience with a lot of those other models, and I think one of the differences for me is the translator. And the transformation. Because I've had some really horrible experiences where I've gone and somebody says, "Oh yeah, you're gonna— here's what's gonna happen to you, you know, you're gonna— two very important relationships are gonna end this year and it's gonna be this one and that one and, you know, and then this is gonna happen and then you're gonna find that." Like, they do all this predictive stuff. And then I'm sitting here afterwards going like, well, Is it true? Are they? I don't know. Is that really going to happen? I don't know. If it does happen, is it because they suggested it or because it was going to happen? It puts my mind into a whole world.
Yes.
Where if I'm working with an intuitive or someone in the Akashic Records, even a psychic who has better self-management and can really allow themselves to just bring through the possibility for somebody, it still keeps you, the client, in the driver's seat. It's like you're still the one who determines how it all goes. Right?
Right.
And I feel like that's a much more responsible way to be in relationship with somebody. And the sort of excuse of the Akashic Records, that format gives me an opportunity to stand back and not be the one who says, "Yes, it's going to turn out this way. Yes, it's going to be this way. Yes, this is going to happen, or this is why that happened." Instead, it's like, "Here's what they're showing me." And that feels very— it feels more— a more gentle way to deliver information. So now the client has a perspective available to them rather than a truth that they need to reconcile themselves to.
Mm-hmm. Yeah. And this is one of the main things I want to talk about is I think people are so desperate for answers.
Yeah.
It's like, just tell me what to do. And I say that as someone who learned— learned, I won't say the hard way, but learned. I'm the only one with the answers. Like, I mean, I have done every plant medicine, healer, psychic, tarot, like, I mean, you name it, I've done it. And it's all led me back to nothing is more powerful than sitting with yourself. And that requires a level of awareness to be able to do that. Because for a lot of people, that's like, they can't sit with themselves, you know. But I think what the record— the, the work that I've done, you know, on my own in the records, and then also working with you, that to me has been— I think the greatest thing that the records have taught me is that, like, I am my own master, you know. And it's like between me and God. And like, the more we try to outsource our, you know, decisions, free will, whatever it might be, our destiny, seeking outside of ourselves, you're just going to be given another opportunity to come back to you, to come back to you.
That's— The only place I would push back against what you're saying is that I worry in our world about the death of expertise, because I do think, like, there's— I don't ever want to go I don't want to ever do surgery on myself, right?
Me either.
I frankly would rather not do my own taxes. Like, there's a lot of places where I actually want to be able to make the decision to hire somebody or read somebody or study somebody who's actually way better at it than I ever want to be. Like, I want to make that choice. So it's like I'm in there making the choice. Who do I choose? Who are the experts that I rely on? Who do I turn to for that type of expertise? And then what do I do with the advice that they give me? That's still up to me, right?
Right.
So it's like, I think that's one of the things that coaching has really offered to our world. It's like before, it's like we teach you, you learned it, you go out and do it. That's the great hope. And with coaching, it's like, okay, and what do you understand and how do you learn and what do you see is going to work best for you? Like, really empowering the individual. And I feel like the Akashic work, it's someplace in the middle. Like, it gives us that middle ground where you, Claire Sellers, don't have to know everything. You've got information over here that I can offer you, and then it's up to you what you do with that information. But I'm not the one who's saying, yes, this is exactly what you need to do. Yes. Advice, but I'm also not just saying, well, what do you think, Claire Sellers? Yes. So it's one reason why I love the two modalities, the coaching and Akashic. In one, I get to ask you the questions, coaching, and you come forth with your answers. In Akashic, you get to ask me the questions, I bring through information for you, and you're still the master of your own destiny.
Yeah, I love that. Thank you for saying that. And I think that's the thread there because we're both coaches. I don't practice. I don't offer Akashic sessions anymore. I just send people to you. To your point, like, you are— this is like you are a master of this, and I think the complement of coaching and the Akashic Records is so powerful. And I think why I trust you and why if I send a client to someone, it's like from my heart, it's like I trust I treat my clients like family, like I trust my life with this person. And the thing that I've always admired in you, and I'm curious if this comes from the coaching, is your self-management, because I've talked to so many different healers and psychics and you name it, and it is a matter of this is what you need to do. Like you're going to meet someone tomorrow on this street eating a chocolate croissant. And it's like, and to me, that actually, that was a silly example, but I think that can borderline on being detrimental because it takes away our, our free will and it takes away it. We're giving away our power to something outside of ourselves, which is kind of what I was saying before.
And I think— Yeah.
The reason I'm so drawn to the Akashic Records is because it's just an affirmation of what I already know.
Yeah, or sometimes it offers a perspective that I never would have thought of. I mean, sometimes even when people ask me questions and I bring through answers, I'm like, oh, that's really interesting. I'm almost like standing by as witness watching this thing come out of my mouth, and I'm fascinated by it. Or I'll even— part of my self-management is like, I can't believe I'm saying this because I hell and don't believe it, but here's what they're showing.
Yeah.
And it's fascinating to kind of be in both places at once. I do think— I think that the self-management comes from several places. One, I have been doing my own personal growth work since I was 15 years old. Like, I just, you know, I grew up in a traumatic You know, I had a traumatic upbringing, so it's like I just, I had to kind of get in there and do the work. I also, like I said, my mom sort of ran off to work for a psychic who lost his mind, and I got to bear witness to all of that at a very young age. So I kind of turned away from all things psychic for many years. Couldn't even hear the word without it eliciting a traumatic response. I also had a born-again Christian father who thought that everything I did was worshiping the devil. Mm-hmm. So that helped. Like, so I had these contrasts, right? And so it had me— when I did start to embark on this work, it had me— I was deep into my coaching journey already. So I already was holding that perspective that other people are naturally creative, resourceful, and whole. And I was looking at the records as sort of the ultimate testimony to that.
Mm-hmm.
But it was also really important to me that I never take away somebody's ability to feel empowered in their own knowledge of self or discovery of self. Even if they're heading down a track that's ultimately not gonna be where they belong, sometimes it's where they have to head in order to get the learning that they need to head where they really do belong. Like, I need to trust that process and I need to trust them in that process without putting them in harm's way, without putting them putting them in danger, you know. So I think that that's had me bring sort of an extra level of consciousness to all of it. Um, that's what I would say. I also had, you know, my, my own teacher, Brenda Pell, um, amazing, amazing Akashic Records practitioner herself. And she came from, uh, she had a background— she has a PhD in, um, in psychology. And the, um— So she comes from a deeply responsible, ethical, grounded, you know, analytical experience that helped me feel like I get to witness and observe her for years as a client before I started learning from her. And I think that her modeling really helped.
Yes. Yeah. Yeah. How did you get into this? How did you find the records? It sounds like you were kind of drawn to this realm from such an early age, because talking about purpose, when I look at you, I just feel like you're so in alignment with your purpose. But I know that your purpose has evolved and grown and taken different shapes over the years, as I believe everybody should. Can you speak to kind of how you found this work and your journey?
Yeah. You'll actually love the story. So, like I said, I had that experience with the psychic who had studied Edgar Cayce, who was one of the first people to really bring Akashic Records into the main mainstream. So I had been toying in that world since I was a young person and long before I should have been, frankly, before I was developed enough to be able to do that. Left it for years, never even thought about it. Sometimes in the coach training, people would come up to me and they'd introduce themselves and they'd say, I do Akashic Records. And whenever somebody that I would encounter said that, I felt like they were so made of air that if I blew on them, they would vanish. Like, there was that sense of airiness that would come with them.
Yeah.
And so I just, I didn't take those words seriously at all. It was like, those were not words that, those were not words that were meant for me.
Mm-hmm.
And that's sort of where I put them. I put them on the shelf of things that are not for me. And then I was on a train in the Netherlands back in 2011. I'd had a near-death experience the year before, so I was kind of like wide open. And I was talking with a colleague as we were traveling by train back to the airport. And she said, "So Helen, what about you and love?" And I was like, "Okay, so we're going there." I said, "Well, I have a partner. I miss him desperately. We're deeply connected and I've never met him." And she said, "Sounds to me like you need to talk to Bryn." And the minute she said that, like everything in my body, like the electromagnet went off. Yeah. I'm like—
I just felt that you tell her.
Right? Like, Brynn? Brynn who? She's like, Brynn DePelle. You need to talk to Brynn. I was like, who is she and what does she do? She's like, she does the Akashic Records and, you know, amongst other things. And so she gave me her contact information. And as soon as I got home, maybe even before I got home, I reached out to her and I said, whatever it is that you do, I want to have a session. And that first session with her, I think I used an entire box of Kleenex. It's like she just like in one session, she made sense of my life. Like, there was this— it just, everything sort of made sense. And so I kept working with her, and then I started sending clients to her and students to her. Like, I'd just, I'd sort of look for who's that one that's supposed to talk to her.
Mm-hmm.
And what I noticed is that the people who are working with her and with me at the same time, were moving forward much more powerfully, much more deeply, much more confidently than those who were just working with me. I don't know about those who were just working with her. But, and so when she, in 2017 or something, she offered her first training and I immediately signed up, like just immediately. I was like, if I can only learn even 10% of what it is that she offers me, if I could offer that to my clients, like, what would be available to them? You know? And then, you know, with each course, as each course would finish, I'd be mourning that that course was over. And then, you know, of course, you'd present another course. Sign up, you know, on the spot.
Yeah.
And then I actually, one of our models at the Co-Active Training Institute is that we have assistants come and assist the class in its way to both to support the leadership and the students, but also to deepen our learning as assistants. And I did that many, many times before I became a leader. And so I presented that idea to her. And so I got to be her assistant for a number of years. And I got her on Zoom and just like helped her kind of create an environment where she's better supported, you know, in the—
Thank you.
Physical reality. She's very well supported in the unseen. And so that kind of— I got to be able to be by her side for a number of years then until it was time for me to leave the nest, you know.
Wow. Wow. Yeah, Bryn is amazing. We'll link her in the notes too.
You know, one other thing I want to say, when the pandemic hit and suddenly I couldn't train in front of the room for CTI anymore, like I used to travel and lead their workshops, they went to online, and I just couldn't. I just did not be online for days on end. And so I switched to having my practice be half Akashic Records. And it's like that just carried me through the pandemic and beyond. It was like, that was so satisfying. I loved not traveling. I loved having half my day be in the records and half my day being in the morning. I work with clients in coaching in the afternoon, and the records, it's just like, like, I was in heaven.
Wow. And it's, it's, they're such a beautiful complement. And we use CTI and CoActive interchangeably. I don't know which one we're supposed to use.
They're the same.
Yeah. They're the same. Anyway, so if you hear us say CTI, we're talking about our coaching school and coaching lineage.
Yeah.
Which your family founded.
My oldest brother is one of the three founders, Henry Kimsey-House, his wife, Karen Kimsey-House, and their partner, their late partner, Laura Whitworth.
Yeah. So I forgot to mention that, but that's just interesting. So this is— I mean, this is like truly this work and coaching and the Akashic Records are, I think, the most beautiful complement. And it's no surprise to me that you saw that when people were working, both you and Brent, with Brent, you and Brent. It was this because it does, it empowers you. Like you said, it offers— it's not always telling you what you know. You know, it's not like, oh, you're living in Mexico City right now, Claire. It's not like that. But it's telling you something you couldn't see but was there. Yeah. You know, like it— and when it, when it lands, you're, you're like, oh yeah, yeah, like obviously.
Yeah. Well, and one other little just fun tidbit is that So I mentioned that I had a near-death experience.
Yeah.
It happened— I got sick at what was called the CoActive Summit. It was a gathering of people who study CoActive from around the world, the first of its kind down in Florida. And the very last thing that occurred at the summit was they brought in an Akashic Records practitioner, and her name was Jen Aramith. And I missed it because I was too sick. To go. And, uh, and that was sort of the beginning of my illness. And, um, and lots of people went. And Karen, Kimzie House, said to me it was her favorite part of the whole summit. And I was like, oh, I missed it. Bummer. But what they did was, um, Jen opened the Akashic Records of the Co-Active Model and, and just brought through all this information about the model and what its intentions are and what its purpose is and what it's here to serve and where it's heading and how it's evolving. And it was just like this extraordinary— I've got goosebumps as I think about it. I do too, yeah. So one of the things that happened is that Jen got swamped with requests for sessions after that. And she's like, I can't handle all of this work. I'm going to send people to my friend Bryn. And so all of a sudden, this whole co-active world sort of opened up to Bryn as well. Because Jen just had more than she could possibly handle. And it was because of that connection that I found it on a train in Amsterdam.
Wow. It's so amazing. And it reminds me, I think you— I'm sure we've talked about this. I can't remember what I've told you and what I haven't. We're both so in the zone. But the people listening will probably have heard by now that I have a background in theater. And one of my— I talk about this all the time. He might be my only male guest, Dan Diggles, who was my improv teacher. And he wrote a book that I've linked in the show notes many times, but he wrote a book that has kind of become like— he has these 3 rules of improv and they've kind of become like my 3 guiding principles to life and business. And the first one is Per him, it's say yes and in the context of improv, just keep saying yes and. I've altered that a little bit and I call it follow the opening. And that's so much of what you and I are talking about right now is like, just follow the opening. Like, you don't need to know where it's going. It doesn't need to make sense. Like, and I mean, just say yes and. You know, like, "Yes, I would love to talk to Brynn, and can you give me her contact number?" You know, like—
Yeah.
And when I look back at just what you and I have shared in, you know, these last 30 minutes, so much magic has unfolded in our lives and leading us towards our purpose through just saying "yes, and," following the opening. You know, because I believe that, you know, the universe, God, whatever you want to call it, is always kind of creating opportunities for us to move towards our purpose, towards our highest good. And so often, and I'm sure you see this, people just block, you know, like our saboteur gets in the way and it's like, I can't do that, that'll never work, I'm not going to email that person, I'll email them next month, and then it never happens. And so I, I think it's just important to note that You know, part of, I think, living coactively and, you know, living in alignment with our truth and, you know, also with the guidance of the records is just saying yes and following the opening, you know, and trusting that the right people, places, and things will be put on your path. They just will.
And Sometimes the thing that you think is not it. Yeah. Or sometimes it's like there's this opening, you're like, oh, that's it. And then it's like, no, that was just to get you to where you could find real, you know, like, but it's not a straight path. I've never met anybody who is just like, boink, boink, boink, boink, you know, straight path to where you're going.
Yeah. No. And I mean, that's— it's a great segue because I wanted to talk about my Austin ex— we call it the Austin experience now. I used to not call it, call it that with so much love, but now I just have so much love for that experience. But, you know, it was through the records and one of our sessions that the seed of Austin was me moving to Austin. For context, I moved to Austin for almost a year and it was the hardest year of my life and it changed everything. It was the greatest gift. And it was a— Austin to me was what you just said. I had to go through that to lead me to the next thing. There was no pass-go of Austin.
Yeah.
I had to go. But this is kind of a loaded exploration valley pathway here. But there were a couple things and I'll never forget when, I think this was actually probably our first session that we ever did in the records. And I said, one of the things I came to this session wanting clarity on was I feel complete with Mexico. I don't know where to go.
Mm-hmm.
And the moment you brought forth Austin and all you said was like, have you ever thought of Austin? Two things happened. One, it was like the truthiest truth I've ever heard. I was just like, oh my God, like, yeah, like, oh, I— it makes so much sense. Like, I'm from the South, you know, like, I love horses, I love cowboys, like, you know, the whole thing. And something else very interesting happened where I was so desperate for my next step that I just like made that the plan. It was like I wasn't open to any other option, and I created the whole scene of exactly how it was going to go down in my head. You know, I'm going to live in this type of house, I'm going to move on this month, like boom boom boom boom boom, and I I had to go through that experience for, I mean, literally countless reasons. But I think what I learned from that was twofold. One, you can't mess it up, the thing of life. I could look back and say, "Oh my God, I spent all this money, my health crumbled, I uprooted my life moving to Austin." I could look at that experience through that perspective. Or the perspective I choose is that was— I mean, that was the lowest, hardest, you know, most humbling experience of my entire life. And I literally thank God every day that I had the courage to do that because it catapulted me into a different reality. And I wonder And I'm curious what you think. Had I never, you know, done a session with you, or had the records not presented Austin, I wonder if I would have known to go, or would I have gone, or— you know what I mean? Like, what do you think about that?
Well, first of all, I have no idea about that second part. I really don't. I just have no idea. And was it the exactly perfect right thing for you? Was it part of your destiny? I have no idea. I'm not I'm not either. What I know is that you've been able to make incredible meaning out of it. And that I give you credit for. But I would say in terms of— this is sort of an aside, but related to the self-management thing of earlier. If I'm in the records and Austin comes through for you, right? It's like, are you talking about Austin? They keep saying Austin. Yeah. Yeah. I've never been. I personally, Helen, have never been to Austin. I don't like the heat. You know, there's a lot of reasons why I wouldn't go to Austin. But there was Austin. So I offered it to you. And then when you came forward and said, oh my God, this is terrible, I'm suffering, this is bad for my business, this is bad for my health, all the things. If I didn't trust the records, I would have been over there going, oh my God, I, Helen, told her, Austin, that, oh, I've screwed up her whole life. How terrible. And instead, I'm over there going, manage that, Helen. Let's find out what's here now. Like, let's find out what the records have for— let's find out what's available here. What's— let's find out what's in her highest good to understand about why she's with Austin and what Austin has for her. And then, then it's like all kinds of information comes that's useful to you. It's not useful to you if I'm over there in my ego going, oh no, I trusted this thing called the records and I brought through Austin and she's suffering. But it wouldn't have allowed you to be on the other side of it here going like, wow, Austin, the Austin year, or the Austin experience, or whatever it is that you call it. Um, so it, it's just a— I think that there's lots of possible futures. You know, you could have chosen Indiana.
I don't care.
Like, like, you— there's many options for you, things that you could have And you heard that word and suddenly that magnet was there in you. Like when I heard Brynn's name, it's like, Austin must go. And you trusted that. So it's like that becomes an empowering choice that you made rather than something that that lady told you to do that was crazy and you should never listen to her. You, you made a choice that, um, you know, I, I hold responsibility for it in that I opened my mouth, but I don't hold responsibility for it in terms of the choices that you made to do that.
And I think that that's so important, you know, for anyone in, I would say, like the helper, healer, wellness, even space.
Space.
And it's the same thing with my clients. And this is why I love CoActive, because we're really empowering people to make empowered choices for themselves. But it's like, to me, one of the greatest opportunities in this lifetime is to look at every single thing that's happened to you as a blessing. I mean, even my dad dying, like, I'm able— after it's been 15 years, but I'm able to see the blessing in that. Even though it was devastating, I'm able to see the blessing in that. And that is a perspective. And to me, that differentiates how you move through the world.
Yeah.
You were going to say something.
No, I'm heartily agreeing with you because I was raised with these principles that come from this group called The Love Project. And one of them is to perceive all opportunities as all— to perceive all problems as opportunities. And so it's a similar kind of framework, right?
Yeah.
But the thing that's so important in the way that you're saying is part of why I'm agreeing with you so heartily is that it doesn't take away how much it sucked that you lost your dad when you lost him. It doesn't take away how much you miss him in those moments when you miss him. The tragedy and the pain and the hurt and the grief of all of that, that still gets to live inside of the same space as, and I'm blessed and there's possibility.
Yeah.
And I look at what it grew me. I know my kids lost their dad in 2020. And my daughter would call me all the time. She's like, I'm so confused because On the one hand, I'm so proud of what I did today that I never would have done if he were alive. Like, I had to do this thing today because he's gone. But yet when I ran home, when I got home, I wanted to run in the door and tell him so that he could be proud of me. And she would burst into tears. So it's like to be able to hold both in the same place, you know, that like in Inside Out, the movie, you know, Joy and Sadness in the same space or— Yeah. That hope and disaster, that optimism and really disbelief, hold them in the same space together. I think it's part of our human experience is to learn to embrace the whole.
And in your depth of experience, how do people do that? How do we move toward— 'Cause to me, it's a lot of mindset. I don't like using that word, but you're at choice. And to me, it is that saboteur higher self. But I'm curious for you, like, how have you seen people and maybe your own experience kind of choose— I don't want to say the high road, but, you know, be able to hold both, to see the blessing and the grief in situations?
I don't know. I think that we all have our different orientation towards this, but I mean, I've been going through a big transition myself this last year, and I keep seeing how much optimism is a discipline, how much hope is something that if I'm gonna really retain hope, I need to be able to, like let myself be honest about what's really going on, be able to take care of my heart in that, and then keep hoping. Like the— it's like I've got to be able to see the thing with the lens of wholeness, I think, in general. But then it's a choice to choose optimism. You know, I have a former friend who the default was always to choose pessimism, always.
Yeah.
And it was hard to be with because it's like, if you're trying to choose optimism, if you're trying to choose hope, if you're trying to really hold on to your gratitude for things, I think it's difficult when you just keep getting smacked in the face with pessimism and it'll never work. It's like after a while, I had to make a choice to move on from the friendship because it was just too much of what I didn't want, you know? So yeah, I think choice is a huge, huge part of what prosperity is. As we get to that question, it's like, well, there's one other little— there's a little tangent maybe, but I want to talk also about how sometimes choice is a privilege because there are a lot of times in life and a lot of circumstances and roles and identities that come along with this experience of being human in this time that actually don't— they come with a lot of not choice. They come with a lot of it's been predetermined for you and like the odds are stacked against you. So holding on to choice, holding on to hope, holding on to that notion of freedom gets even harder. And so I just— I want to name that I feel incredibly privileged to be able to live with the amount of choice that I have, the amount of internal and external freedom that I feel, which can make every moment feel prosperous, even though it's— even when my bank account is empty. Yeah.
Yeah. I'm so glad that you brought that in. And I feel the same. And I remember So there are two sides to what you just said. I remember feeling so— I mean, I used to be like— this might be hard for people to believe. I don't know, maybe not. But I used to be like a total Negative Nancy before I was introduced to CoActive and discovered the saboteur, which is, for those who don't know, it's the negative voice in our head that kind of keeps us stuck, safe. It's not bad, it just is. And then the concept of, well, I use higher self. CoActive uses, I don't know what they use these days, leader within. But I was so privileged when I was living in New York and yet the narrative and the stories I was telling myself were you're doomed, you're gonna die alone, you know, like everything sucks. I had infinite things to be grateful for and to choose the positive perspective, and yet my neural pathways were so ingrained in choosing the doom and gloom, the downside. Of course he didn't write me back. Of course he stood me up. Of course you know, this person quit, or I don't know, whatever it was. My brain was so trained. And I think, you know, I had choice, and I had privilege, and I was not choosing what was in my highest good. I was not able to see it. I wasn't available for that. And that's what coaching and, you know, the records have shown me and given me. And then I think there's you know, just to, to speak to what you were saying, there's, I mean, you know, especially those of us, well, I won't even name specific geographic regions, but it's safe to say that there's people in the world who literally have nothing.
Yeah.
And they are some of, you know, the most joyful and gracious people that you'll meet.
Yep.
So And they don't have to be. They have no reason to be, literally zero reason to be gracious or joyful or happy or hopeful. And so, this is why I always like to, in my work with clients, really look at what are the thoughts that you're thinking because your brain, and I believe your spirit, want to choose hope.
Yeah.
They want to choose faith. They want to choose that over fear, over negativity. And you can change your life. And I think you've seen so many examples of that. We can literally change our circumstances. And for those of us listening that have the privilege and the opportunity to do so, I feel like you're even more— let this be a call-up— you're even more capable than so many people. Yeah. You know, in this world to, to do that and to choose a different pathway and to choose a higher pathway and, you know, to, to get the support so that you can start stepping on, you know, a path that is more faith-filled. Um, because so much of this is choice. So much of it's choice.
I, I agree with you. I, I would add that the there are things in our system, like when I think about trauma, for example, like there are moments where like something will occur and we'll get that amygdala hijack and suddenly we're in our fight, freeze, fawn fight response. And in those moments we don't actually have a lot of choice. It's like we lose all of our resourcefulness.
Mm-hmm.
But when we're not in that moment, We have the choice to do our work to make it so that we can navigate those moments more effectively. And the more we— I truly believe that a part of what freedom is, is to be able to know that I am going to take care of myself emotionally no matter what happens.
Mm-hmm.
So if I get in a moment where I'm in fight, flight, or freeze, I then have the tools to be able to pull myself out of that. I have the tools to recover from that afterwards if I couldn't get myself have it in the moment. And I have the ability to choose to bring myself back into a state of well-being. And like, that's— to me, that's the— like, when you can grab hold of that discipline, the discipline to do the inner work so that no matter what happens, you're going to recover back to yourself, um, that's when you start to really feel like you have freedom. You have the ability to be a choice. You have the ability to stay optimistic because you know you're going to be okay no matter what. Usually we avoid things or we stay stuck. Like you said, I don't want to send that email. That's not going to work. Usually underneath that is I'm going to somehow feel the pain that I don't want to feel, and I don't trust myself to take care of myself if I feel that pain. So I'm not going to send that email. Like, it's like it sort of all boils back down to somehow I'm going to get in trouble if I do the wrong thing, so I'm just not going to do anything. But if we can take care of ourselves emotionally, then we're good.
I'm so glad you brought that up. And I was in fight, flight, freeze for so much of Austin. And so I really, again, empathize for anyone who feels that, or everyone can feel that or relate to that. And I have my ways, but I'm curious for you, what is one thing that someone who feels like they're not in choice, at choice, how can they move themselves towards choicefulness or, you know, towards being, you know, out of that stage, towards knowing I can take care of myself, I can hold myself through this?
You know, the first thing that comes to mind is to practice acknowledging the truth of what is. And what I mean by that is like to be able to you know, sort of look around your circumstances and to be able to say, it's like, well, in this moment, you know, I have a roof over my head. It's a, you know, whatever it is, like it may be a holy roof, it may be a [FOREIGN LANGUAGE] roof, but there's a roof over my head. Or in this moment, you know, I have legs that can walk and I'm freezing cold, like I am freezing cold and I am without shelter, like whatever the truth of the moment is. To be able to acknowledge that first. And one of the tricks my trauma teacher, Jane McCampbell Stewart, fabulous, talks about is this sense of being able to go, even though this is happening, even though this is true, I hold myself in compassion. Even though this is my reality, I still am going to take care of myself over here. I hold myself in compassion.
Yeah.
And then from there, I give myself permission to, and then What are the little things that you can give yourself permission to do so that you kind of come back into yourself? Yeah, that would be just sort of the first step. It's just so often that, you know, we feel like we're not at choice because we're— we are not accepting the experience we're having.
Right.
You know, if we could just go, well, this is the experience I'm having, then it's like the self calms down because it's like, oh, she noticed. Yeah, it's like Yeah, we're cold and we're hungry and we're scared and they're looking at us funny. And there's, you know, we launched a big program and only 3 people signed up, or, you know, we don't know where the money's gonna come from, or we bought the ticket but we can't get the visa, or like, you know, whatever it is. It's like to be able to acknowledge the truth of it, like you're halfway there.
I love that. I love that. And it reminds me of something that during when I was in Austin, And I started working again with my therapist, Tammy, and she said, I want you to start practicing putting "for now" at the end of every sentence. Like, I am so unhappy for now, you know, or everything feels like a mess for now. And I do this still all the time, like, I will say out loud in this moment, like, I feel overwhelmed and it's just for now.
Yeah. And you can do it the other way too. It's like, I am just overflowing with happiness for now.
Yes.
Don't hold the expectation you're gonna be that way always. Ever. Yeah. There is so much money flowing through my bank account for now.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And can I fully be in the truth of that moment?
You know?
Fully be in the— and it gives us more permission because it's all just for now. I mean, I always talk about the impermanence of absolutely everything, and it's all just for now. So can that give you more permission to be in it, in the truth of whatever it is for now? Fully in it.
Yeah. Wow.
I feel like we're just getting going. I could keep I could keep talking to you. We should do a whole episode on coaching because I feel like, I mean, there's so much overlap and just talking to you reminds me that I'm just so grateful for, you know, of course, the Akashic Records, but also for CoActive, you know, and for the framework of CoActive and because it really is a way of being. Both modalities are a way of being and they've just been so impactful in my life. And it's like you and I speak the same language, and I just love talking to people who have the CoActive and the Akashic framework both together. It's like the magic combo. So it's just been so amazing to have you on the show. I mean, I just think the world of you. I trust you infinitely. We're going to link all your things, but before we— Thank you. Because everyone's going to be like, oh my God, I need Helen. Helen, everyone should have Helen on speed dial. She is just the best. But I'm curious. I always ask my guests, and I'm very curious about your answer to this. What does prosperity mean to you?
Well, I love this question, and I've been thinking about it knowing that I was coming on this podcast today. I was thinking about it today. And I think I've already spoken to some of it. Like, to be fully at choice, um, is a part of it. Um, to feel the freedom that comes with being fully at choice. And I think to consistently return to a state of gratitude. When those things are in place, life feels prosperous. It just does. And I think there's a lot of different layers. Like, you can have emotional prosperity, financial prosperity, relational prosperity. Like, I can go into details about all of them, but those are kind of the 3 things that rose to the top for me. Like, I love it because even, even if it's about money, which so often isn't, um, it's like the main reason why I want that money to flow through is so I feel free.
Free.
Free to do what I want, you know. Um, but yeah, then when I feel the most prosperous is when I feel the most free.
Me too. And for me, like, money is always a byproduct. It's always the after, you know, like, it's never— the money is never what you're actually desiring. It's the freedom.
And it's to be in an experience of mastery and in an experience of, like, evolution. Like, just the other day, I paddled with my partner down a river we'd never paddled, and I capsized. You know, it could have been a very, very disastrous—
Oh my God.
It was a fast-flowing river. It was a class 2 rapids when I capsized. But at the end of the day, I just looked at him and I was like, I am so grateful I capsized. Like, I'm so grateful I had you there to catch my boat. I'm so grateful to get back in and enjoy the rest of the paddle. And I learned so much more than if it had just been an easy move.
Smooth sailing.
It was my Austin.
That river was my Austin.
And it's like I felt abundantly rich in that moment, like dripping wet. I've got all the wrong gear on. I'm tired. I'm chilled to the bone. And I just felt like wealthy because I had stepped a little closer to mastery. I understood things a a little bit better, and I felt a little more empowered to be able to do that again one day.
Yeah.
Maybe without, you know, capsizing. We'll see.
I love that story. Oh my gosh. I'll remember that. I see it. I see the scene. But it's so true. Like, you can feel rich in any moment. You can feel prosperous in any moment, even when you're soaking wet and freezing cold. My next, second to last question is, what is the next dream that you are devoted to creating?
Well, so I've just been in this massive transition, moving myself from New York back to the northernmost part of Michigan where I'm surrounded by grandchildren and friends. So that is in its creation. But now that I'm grounding in that and nesting in that, the next The next piece is I'm partnering with a colleague and we're designing a program working with— I'm helping people to think like experiential leaders, experiential designers, knowing when we design things, we're leading the way. And when we're leading things, we're constantly in a state of design and that design and leadership in and of itself is a transformative experience. So I'm going to teach people how to think that way, how to do that, bringing together my worlds of art, design and coaching and leading and Akashic and all that. So, yeah.
Oh, my gosh. I love that. I'm like, send me the link. I will.
We're hoping to launch this fall. That's the goal.
Yeah. Amazing. Amazing. Well, you'll put that on your website, which is my last question, which is like, where should people find you? We're going to link all your places.
Yeah. Well, ironically, I actually don't have a website per se.
But you do.
Yeah, I do. I have a scheduling site. But just to be clear, I have been successful in business for 28 years without ever establishing a website. I'm very proud of that.
Thank you for saying that. Thank you for saying that. I mean, the, the, and this is like a, a little bit of a tangent, but I mean, you really have, you don't do, I mean, you actually just followed me on Instagram like an hour ago.
Yeah.
I mean, you've done, you've built a successful business through word of mouth, email, being you, showing up in the world. And you have, I mean, I call it your website, but yeah, it's a booking page.
Yeah, it's a booking page.
That's it. Your services.
13 years into my coaching business, I got my first business card. And I did it because I was going to Asia and the cultural custom of exchanging business cards is very important that I engage in that. And so I got a business card. And then now I think maybe for the 30th anniversary of my coaching practice, I'll maybe get a website. Oh my gosh. Or if we launch our— when we launch our program this fall. But anyhow, so you can find me at— what is it? Helenhouse.asme.com or something like that. And then I'm also offering for Akashic Records. Anybody who wants to do an Akashic Records session, they can use the code all caps PROSPER for 33%. off the session.
Oh my gosh. Okay. You're— you better blow up soon. I mean, if everybody doesn't take advantage of that, I love it. Oh my gosh. What a gift. Thank you.
Thank you. You're welcome. Yeah.
I love that. I didn't know you did that.
Amazing.
Yeah. See, you've got codes, you've got booking links.
Yeah. I got— I got packages. I got things. Experience Divine and coaching and Akashic and all the things. And yeah.
Yeah. And Helen is also— you can— you'll see on her— your website, you know, Helen also offers coaching and then coaching and Akashic combo. So, you know, she— but she outlines all of that. And then we'll also put your email because you're always on email. Um, but Helen, this has just been such a delight.
I— Thank you so much for having me. It's been a delight. Thank you.
I just think that you are like such a gift to the world. And I'm just beyond grateful that I followed the pull and randomly went up to— quote, randomly— asked you and told you I'm going to Singapore, and that changed my life. And you continue to empower me to make choices that are in my highest good. And you've helped so many of my clients, my friends, family members. So I just trust you infinitely. I think the world of you, and I'm just so grateful that I found you.
Thank you so much. And, you know, I just keep thinking as you're speaking that I'm so glad whatever made you late that day to that class, I'm so glad you were late. Like, there's something about the perfection of you being thrust into that space before you even could put your coat down. You couldn't even think about what you were doing. You're so right. Wow.
Yeah.
It's, you know, may, may we all find ways to get out of our own way, right?
100%. 100%. Well, thank you so much, Helen. And I'm excited for—
Thank you for being a beacon in a light for, for those who are trying to live their— prosper through purpose, right?
Exactly.
Thank you.
