asking questions

John Cordero shows how to ask questions that actually work in dating and social interactions. Open-ended questions keep conversations flowing, while rapid back-to-back questions feel like an interview. The better rhythm: ask something open, listen to their answer, share something about yourself, then move forward.

So today we're going to be talking about asking questions, and there really isn't anything super crazy complicated, but there's a right way to ask questions and there's a wrong way to ask questions. So the wrong way to ask questions is that you ask them and you don't ask them open-ended. So you say, hey, how are you doing? And then she's gonna say good, and that's it, you know what I'm saying? Now you have to come up with either another question or say something else. So the Closed-ended questions suck. They suck for so many reasons. Your job is to get her talking, and you want her to talk more and get more invested in the conversation. And in order to do that, you just need to ask open-ended questions that are going to help it out. So it's like, what's like the most ideal day for you? Like, what's the perfect day look like? You know what I'm saying? You can say something like that. Now she has more input, and she can say something personally or something that she likes. Or, you know, what are you, what are you most passionate about? That's a really good one to get her opened up. About things that she likes, and that's going to help you so much more in that category to really make a difference. So open-ended questions are great. Now, another mistake that I see is that guys just do this interview thing where it's like question after question after question after question. And you got to keep in mind, like, we're going up to her and we're talking to her, and that's— there's nothing wrong with that. But when you just go question after question after question, it just becomes this interview mode. And And sometimes it can be a bit daunting. So a way to fix that is really simple. All you have to do is just ask open question, let her respond, and then you answer your own question. You know what I'm saying? So if like going back to my example, if I say, "Hey, what are you passionate about?" And it's like she'll say her answer, and then he's like, "You know what? I'm actually really passionate about baseball, and I love playing. I played it as a kid all the time, and it just reminds me of." Just good times, and my family would get together when I went out to games, and it was just really, really fun. And so it gets her to get to know you better, and it just brings it all together. And then you can just go from there. It's important that you guys see the other modules in here because you mix it up to avoid the interview mode. Really easy, you know what I'm saying? You ask the question, let her respond, you respond, and then you bring in an observation. Like, I've noticed like you have really high energy. Like, are you always this active? And it just makes it something different. And yeah, that was a question, but you could also be like, you know, just make an observation, get something going. It doesn't matter if you end up asking question after question. It's not the end of the world, but it's one of those things that was just be mindful of it and then have just a response in general, you know what I'm saying? So there's other ways to talk, there's other ways to conversate, but that's pretty much it for the questions. It's really not that hard. It's pretty easy. But if you can just do that, ask open-ended questions and don't ask question after question, it's going to be a lot better. So those are great. Some go-tos just to be helpful here is, you know, it's like, you know, I will do my intro. He's like, hey, I was just walking by. I just thought you were cute. I just wanted to say hi. And he's like, what are you up to today? I asked that one off rip. Or I'll ask and do an observation. It's like, you look Latina. It's like, are you Latina or you just have a nice tan? And I'll just do that, and that really gets it going. That's pretty much what I got, so I'll definitely see you guys in the next video.
