making observations

John Cordero explains why observations beat generic compliments in conversation. An observation forces a response, turning small talk into dialogue. Watch what someone chose: their clothes, how they talk, their energy, the cereal in their cart. Pair observations with playful teasing to start real exchanges.

Hey guys, welcome back to another video. And today I want to talk about observations and why they're so good. They're actually the best tool for you to actually get a conversation going. And here's why. The reason why they're so good is because it makes the woman feel like she has to say something because you're more likely going to say an observation about her. So it gives her a way to explain why that observation is accurate or not. I like to use observations based off of assumptions, which is very, very Powerful. So, you know, so my go-to, like, if she's tan, I like Latinas. But if she's tan, I'll be like, are you Latina? Or are you just, you're just like dark skin? You know what I'm saying? It's like, that's, that's an observation. But it's also a question mixed with it. And so it gives her a reason to explain, no, I'm actually Italian, or whatever, or I'm mixed, or whatever. And she gives an answer based off of the observation. Things that you can make an observation about is her style. It could be the way she talks, the way she carries herself. Her energy level. Is it high? Is it is it really hyperactive, or is it really low down key? So it's like you know you can be like hey it's like dang like are you are you shy or are you just like really nervous around me right now? And you could like say stuff like that and she'll be like no I'm not normally I'm just kind of tired today or whatever. And it always makes up for really really really good conversations. The two most favorite things that I like that have conversations going really well is observation. And teasing. Those 2 things are really, really good. Personal input and asking questions bring the combo along, and it's not bad, but it's what every other guy does. But to set yourself apart, get the observation part down, and you really, really will do well. And it's one of those things that is hard to do at first because you're not used to it, because in order to do a really good observation, you have to observe something in real time. So if I'm at a grocery store And I'm talking to her and I see, you know, Froot Loops in her cart. It's like, dang, you have Froot Loops? It's like, okay, that's my weakness. You know, that's why I really came to talk to you. You know, something like that. You know, it's just like something that's slight. It's not super— it doesn't have to be super slick, but at the same time it's relatable. And she'll be like, yeah, I love that cereal, whatever. And it'll get her talking, it'll get her relating to you. And that's what you want. You know what I'm saying? It could be anything. Just make sure that it's not about how how pretty she is or something that she can't control. It's something that she chooses, and that's going to be so much better. It's like, dang, that jacket goes really well with those pants. Like, I could tell, like, your, your style is on point. Like, not bad. You know, stuff like that is good. You know what I'm saying? Uh, the way that she carries herself— chef's kiss. Amazing. Uh, things that are really, really good. And he's like, oh dang, you're really high energy. Or dang, like, you're kind of being a brat. You're giving me a lot of attitude. I don't know if I like that. You know what I'm saying? Stuff like that. And so that's observation combined with a tease, which is so good. So things like that is going to help it along. And it's just a muscle that you have to work in real time. And the only way you're going to do that is just get reps and talk to the gal, you know what I'm saying? And keep, keep getting those conversations. And you can do it with guys too. But you can keep making observations in real time, and that's going to help you get better. The more that you do it, the faster you're going to get at it. And that's really going to be good to carry you through the conversation. So that's all I have for you guys in this video. See you guys in the next.
