A college soccer coach explains how pre-reads work: top schools like Carnegie Mellon and NYU review your grades and athletic record after signaling recruitment interest. He earned a half-academic, half-athletic scholarship to Division I and says pre-reads are rare, only for players visible to recruiters at recognized clubs like the East Atlanta Mustangs.

You want to get a pre-read from a college soccer team. What is a pre-read? So pre-read is when a school determines they want to recruit you and say, I want to see not only your transcripts, but I want to submit your transcripts and any extra accolades to the said university. So this is typically done for top academic schools where a Carnegie Mellon and NYU will say, we think we want to recruit you, can you please send us your transcripts so we can submit it to our admissions department? And then admissions will say, this student is currently on track to potentially be a candidate to be recruited as an athlete or potentially even get into the school for every single year. And that's in some cases a full ride. And that's exactly what happened to me. I got half academic and half athletic, which led to a full ride scholarship to play Division I soccer. Now pre-reads are hard to come by, so remember, to get this pre-read, you're group, of course make them interested. You have to have been seen and showcased. And particularly depending on the type of school you're reaching out to, you know, playing East Atlanta Mustangs is a key point in this development. So if you are playing at those levels and you're not getting interest and you think you have the grades, then you need to call me because then you're probably doing something wrong, or maybe you're not the level and I need to tell you that to your face. I like being honest because I think it's important. I'm lucky in a position where I'm not your club coach, I don't care if you pay me, I'm not a college team, so I don't care if you come to my camp. I'm an individual and I only care about you and I only care about helping kids play college soccer. If you want more on playing college soccer, give me a call. Comment "call" below, C-A-L-L, and I'll schedule a call with you and your parents. Talk soon.
