Zev Taublieb gives parents three ways to get their daughters into elite youth soccer clubs: make a highlight video early, contact clubs first rather than waiting, and do technical drills at home. He says timing often matters more than marginal skill differences when clubs are full.

3 ways for your daughter to get into the ECNL organization to increase their chance of playing Division 1 college soccer if they are 8 to 13 years old, aka 2nd grade until 7th grade. Number 1 is you need a highlight video. I know many of you are going, "Well, they're so young, you know, they're not good enough to make a video." If the video you were to show me was not good, then you're not going to get into the organization of an ECNL-like club. By the age of 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, you need to look like a very good soccer player. Hence, that's how coaches work. I want you on their team. Team. And many of you will watch this video and then years from now you'll say, oh, we tried for the ESL team but they were full. They told us we were good enough but they were full. How do you think they got full? Before you reached out to them, somebody else reached out to them and got on the team, and they weren't maybe better than you, but they were the first one there, so now they're on the team forever. And you guys will say, well, politics and the system sucks and blah blah blah, but they just got there first. It's not always about being better, it's about getting there first. To get there first especially if you're not already born right there in the middle of it, you have to make a highlight video. It doesn't have to be long, it can be 1 minute's worth. Let me show you an example video real quick. So this family DM'd me on Instagram, and I looked at their clips because, you know, she has highlights. I can already tell she's more athletic and frankly more mature than the girls around her. And already right here, even though she missed and it wasn't like the best moment, I can tell this girl can potentially one day play college soccer. Because she's committed, she has the technical ability, and how else would I know without seeing video? In order to get good video, you need to go practice at home technical exercises, which we are happy to provide for you if you don't have them already. But you need to make this video and send it out to those ECNL teams. This particular girl is already playing pre-ECNL, so don't you think she'll be on the ECNL team? Probably. If you want help playing ECNL and MSNEXXX, give me a call. Links in the bio. Make sure you click on 2nd through 7th grade.
