A coach walks a junior soccer player through recruiting: write a genuine email naming your top school, get parents to fund a highlight video, have an editor create five one-minute every-touch clips, then follow up with the coach four times with the videos attached.
Did you go to FEST? No. Okay, and that's okay, you can still get recruited. Um, having said that, what school here would you like to speak to? Biola. Biola, excellent. I haven't heard Biola very often, so what I was telling the last group is since most of these kids— raise your hand if you would like to go to Biola. 1, 2, 3, 4. Raise your hand if you want to go to Northwestern. Raise your hand if you want to go to Caltech. A few. Okay, I was hoping for a bigger raise of hands with Northwestern. Anyways, my point was to say more kids want to go to Northwestern than Biola, statistically. So because of that, have you spoken to them yet or not yet? No, not yet. So they probably don't know who you are. No. Do they still probably, have you been coached by them yet? Uh, no, not yet. Okay, great example, 'cause they want to know you want to go, 'cause people don't pick Biola. Biola's a great school, Coach, I'm not criticizing your campus. What I just mean is, compared to Northwestern, it's not as popular. So the fact that you want that school, it's really important that you write in the email, and you can be genuine and honest, of all the schools at the camp, I want to speak to you the most. May I have permission to come up to you tomorrow? Period. Question mark. And then send that email tonight. Good job. And then how many highlight videos do you have? No videos yet? Okay, that's a— what, you're a junior? Yeah. Okay, where are your parents? My dad's not here. Anybody? No parents? You drove yourself? Yeah. Okay, I mean this politely, you can't email Viola then because— or you still should do it because you're at the camp, but you won't go anywhere without a video. So make your parents have to pay for a highlight video. They don't have to pay me, but they have to pay somebody. That and also every touch videos are next. So to make a highlight video, it's really hard. So tell your parents this: send your full game videos to us or to somebody else. Have them just make the clips, not pick out which ones are best. Then you pick the best clips of those, tell the editor and say, editor, here are the best clips out of those 5 games, make that to a highlight video. Then you will have 5 every touch videos Right? Because I made every touch. And you'll have a highlight video. And then you're going to cut those, and now you have 1 highlight video, 5 every touch videos, and every one of those every touch videos cut down into 1 minute. And now you have another 10 videos.
