A recruiting video is essential for college soccer players, not optional. Host it on YouTube with an intro page, arrange clips by position, show every touch including defense, and update 4-6 times yearly. After that window, coaches move to in-person scouting.

"Oh, Dad, I have all this video. I'm not really sure what clips I should put in. I don't know which order they should go in, so I'm just going to make it myself." "I mean, yeah, that's way cheaper, so that makes total sense. I would totally do that." "Yeah, but I'm not really sure like which clips should go where, or if the order matters. Do coaches care about it, or are they going to watch the whole thing?" "I mean, it's just a video. You know, if you're good, you're good. You're a good soccer player, so I don't think it really matters. Just make sure you put something together, because I have heard that this video thing is important." This is one of the biggest mistakes I see in the recruiting process because not only is the video important, it's everything. Without your video, you don't play college soccer. And if you don't put it in the right order, if you don't have a self-interview, if you don't have the intro page, the coaches will assume you can't afford college. So if you give them a video that's not even on YouTube, that's an MP4, you are screwed. If it's zoomed out, you are screwed. You need a video that is specific for your position. On top of that, you need what are called every-touch videos. And this is every video you have taken in the game, including defensive moments like pressing moments, etc. And this is what we make for our students. We'll make 4 to 6 of these per year. And after that, the videos don't really have that much power because at that point the coaches have to see you in person. But that is the point of the video.
