In this YouTube clip, The College Soccer Guy answers a viewer’s question about whether to include training videos in recruiting materials. He advises athletes to prioritize highlight reels and “every‑touch” videos first, then add training clips later. Training videos should be posted on vertical‑format social platforms (Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts) rather than horizontal Instagram posts, which he calls wasteful. By linking to an Instagram profile, coaches can see the training clip, explore additional soccer content, and also get a glimpse of the player’s personal life, which helps coaches assess character. The speaker emphasizes that recruiters want to know the whole person, not just on‑field ability, and encourages viewers to comment “call” to schedule a recruiting call with the player’s parents.

Hey, Coach, should I use training videos in my highlight video, or are training videos helpful at all? Training videos can be really helpful, but you want to send those later. Focus on your highlight videos first and what we call every-touch videos. Training videos can come later, like after you've sent your highlight video and maybe one or two every-touch videos, then you can have training, and you should put it on your Instagram and you reformat it so it's vertical. Do not send horizontal Instagram clips. We're too far away. We cannot see them. They're basically literally a waste. Have everything on social media be vertical, and then you take that same vertical clip and you can put it on YouTube as a short, and now 'Cause now when coaches go to your YouTube page, which is better than having SportsRecruits or your own website, they can go through YouTube and go, here's an every touch video, oh, here's another angle of that every touch video where it's zoomed in. I like seeing both. Okay, so training videos can work, but only send them after I've sent my every touch video and highlight videos, is that right? That is correct, and if you're gonna send a training video, it's best if it's on social media. So that way you can send them the training video and go, hey coach, here's my training video. You send them a link to your Instagram, even though it is a training video, and now they're clicking your link and going to your Instagram page. and then they'll be much more likely to follow you and watch the rest of you. And more importantly, they'll be able to see your other clips that you've posted, or maybe a picture with your family at Thanksgiving. Remember, coaches want to get to know you as a person, so they want this Instagram to be not just soccer-specific, but specifically for getting recruited. They want to get to know the whole person. They're going to recruit you for 4 years, remember, and they don't want any troublemakers. Wow, that was really helpful. Who are you? I'm The College Soccer Guy, and I help you play college soccer. If you want more help, comment "call" and we can schedule a call with you and your parents.
