Zev Taublieb explains why college coaches miss talented youth soccer players. Coaches often don't know about you, they reward flashy moments over consistency, and most players never follow up. He shares how he got recruited as a defensive midfielder through steady play, not standout performances.

Here are 3 reasons why some players get noticed by college coaches and others don't. Number 1, the coaches don't know who you are beforehand. I wanna tell you a brief story about a youth national team player I saw at an ID camp. I was at the Pepperdine ID camp and I was actually making content 'cause I live in Malibu. I'm okay from the fires, thanks for asking. And while I was there, I went up to a family and I said to them, hey, I was curious, like, which one is your daughter? And they said, they pointed to her daughter, and I watched her for a bit, and I thought, she's okay. I didn't particularly think she was anything outrageous special. And then I said, oh, tell me a little bit more about her, like, what's, who does she play for, and what's her resume, and what, can I see her video? So then they sent me her video. She was a U-16 Mexican national team player with an incredible left foot. And I thought to myself, I was at this camp, and I would have never picked her out. And you know why? Because the drill I was watching at that moment she wasn't involved in. They weren't passing her the ball. It was jungle ball. It had nothing to do with her. Of course, I continued to watch her for the rest of the camp, and it was obvious she was one of the best players there. So that's when you have to understand that when you go to these camps, had the parents emailed me and said, this is my daughter, I would've zoomed in on her and watched her more than the other kids. If you're depending on being flashy, which is reason number 2, to get picked, then you're not going to get recruited. I was a defensive center mid. I got picked because I was consistent over time. So when they saw me over time, they liked me. But in one 20-30 minute showcase or one 2-hour camp, I wasn't picked first. So it was over time that I got picked. And number 3, if you don't follow up, you're not going to get recruited. No matter what you do, you won't get noticed until you follow up over and over again. If you want to know which camps to go to, comment the word camp and I will send you a list. If you want more help playing Call of Soccer, give me a call. Link's in the bio.
