An athlete with offers from Division II and multiple Division III schools got asked by a coach not to name other programs. The advisor explains it's fine to name schools you're not interested in, coaches ask out of insecurity, and video plus clear communication helps recruiting go smoother.

Basically, we, you know, we've been accepted, but been offered by a D1, excuse me, a D2, and 2 or 3 D3s. But out of respect for the coaches, you know, I don't think it's appropriate to share names. And so, and then I guess he didn't like that answer. So he just came back and said, Okay, thank you. Good luck. And then he came back again 2 days later and said, I'm going to this, this showcase, will you be there? And Tommy wasn't gonna be there. So Tommy responded, I could try to guess play. And he said, no, no, no need to do that.
Okay, good. This is helpful. So what we're going to do, because that's really helpful, I need exact language which we're going to dive into in a second. But not yet, but that's really helpful. So just to give you like what that means language-wise, he— you guys did fine by not sharing the other schools. Rule of thumb is you can say the other school's names if you don't want to go to those schools, because who cares? So from your guys' perspective, like with the D2 school that you don't want to go to, like, absolutely. And it doesn't That's normal, like you're not throwing them under the bus by it. That's, you're allowed to tell them. So that's number 1. Number 2 is if, you know, you do want, if the coach said you like don't share, then that's something else. But otherwise, I wouldn't be too concerned about it. But you didn't do anything wrong. He just wanted to know, coaches in my opinion, get slightly insecure because they can only do things through seeing people once or twice. So they're like, look, I think I like them, but like, Does anybody else like him? And then they ask, and then if you say like, yes, they're like, okay, okay, I knew I was right all along, blah, blah, blah. So that's kind of why they ask that question. Because otherwise, you know, if they were super confident, why would they care if someone else is recruiting you? Unless they need to know the timeline in which they're going, okay, this kid's on a timeline, I better find out what he needs quickly. So, and that doesn't, in this scenario, I do not think it was a timeline thing. I think he was wondering what the deal was. So, but it's hard to say for sure. Anyways, a lot of this will be— solved is not the right word with video, but I would say like smoothed over a little bit better, um, to give us some better answers. So this is good conversation. The recruiting process can be really nuanced to your situation, so if you want help, give me a call. Links in the bio. Talk soon.
Bye.
