A scout reviews a 2027 LA Surf player's highlight reel and finds Division I-level soccer ability: a great goal, a reverse pass, strong footwork. The video itself is a problem though, too long and poorly zoomed. The real issue: how many D2 and D3 coaches have actually reached out to this player.

Scouting a player based off their highlight video who plays for LA Surf MLS Next, and they're a 2027. Let's see if they're good enough to play Division 1 college soccer. So first of all, this is their YouTube. See how it's formatted? Kind of awkward. So that's already a strike one. Now let's see, there's no self-interview. That's strike two. The length is a little too long. I'd rather it be 2 minutes and 30 seconds-ish. Strike three, it's zoomed out so I can barely tell who you are. Let's see if I can still watch the soccer though. It's a Great goal. So what I need you to do is you gotta zoom in like this. See, if I zoom in now and I played the clip again, this is already much better. Even if it's blurrier, better to zoom in. So that right there says potential D1 in terms of the soccer, but the format of the video is not doing you justice, which is a problem. That was a great reverse pass, great reverse pass. And now I'm watching it in zoomed-in mode, which is already much better. Here you are again. Good, good feet. You score. Wow, this is potential Division 1. The player's ability. If the coaches are willing to look past all this, which maybe they will, maybe they won't, the soccer part is potential Division 1, and he's playing at the right level. I would want to learn how many coaches he's been on the phone with, because if he's had zero phone calls of the 27 with any D3 schools or D2, then he's missing something. So I would say potential D1, potential D1, but I want to know where you're at in the process.
