MLS NEXT players make three recruiting mistakes: skipping college ID camps where most D1 athletes go, waiting for club coaches to contact colleges instead of reaching out themselves, and prioritizing summer league time over full-game footage and short video clips for coaches.

Do not make these 3 mistakes if you are playing MLS NEXT. Number 1, don't think you shouldn't go to ID camp just because you're playing at a high level. Most players who are American who play college soccer at the Division 1 level have gone to the ID camp of the coach. Not only should you go for their sake, but you should go for your sake. If you're a really good player, maybe you don't even like their coaching style. You need to find that out before you join their team. Number 2, Do not depend on your club director or your club coach to do the work for you. They wanna help you. If they had all the time in the world, maybe they would look over every email and every video, but they usually do not. So make their life easier by sending out a bunch of information about yourself so that makes the college coaches want to call your coach, not the other way around. And number 3 is playing time at your league doesn't really matter, especially this time in the summer. What matters is did you get or do you have full game videos that you can cut to send to coaches as a reminder of saying, hey, here's who I am. And can you cut those same clips into 1-minute bites for social media to then post? Is social media going to be the reason you get recruited? Sometimes. But no matter what, you have to at least think about it. If you want more help playing college soccer, give us a call. Links in the bio. Bye.
