A talented U16 Mexican national team player went unnoticed at an ID camp because she barely touched the ball. The speaker says email coaches before and after showcases so they know who to watch, especially for positions like defensive midfield that don't rack up flashy stats.
Why you're not getting noticed at ID camps. It's story time. So I was at an ID camp and I went up to a family and I said to them, which one is your daughter? And they pointed her out and I watched her for a bit. To be honest, I thought she was average, nothing special. And so then I asked the family, can you tell me a little bit about your daughter? What grad year is she? What club level is she playing in? And they explained to me that she is playing at the ECNL level, has already been called up to the U16 Mexican national team, and is a baller. And I said to them, I'm watching your daughter, Either I'm a really bad coach or I'm missing something. Can I see her video? So I watched the video and I'm like, this girl's a baller. But in the camp setting, she wasn't getting the ball. The girls around her were not a very good level, so it didn't make her look any better 'cause she couldn't get the ball a lot. And frankly, I would've never noticed her. Now for the rest of the camp, I kept my eye on her because I knew she was good. And then when I saw her touch the ball, then when I saw her pass, I went, this girl's really good and I wanna recruit her. But if I didn't know who she was before, there was no way I was ever going to know. This is why you must email the schools before the ID camp and after the ID camp and before the showcase and after the showcase so they zoom in on you. If you're waiting for you to score 10 goals and dribble past everybody, that may be the only way to get noticed. And if that's you, good for you. But for players like me who was a defensive mid or she was a left back, you're going to get noticed because they watch you specifically. If you want more help playing college soccer, give me a call.
