In this informal "story time" monologue, the speaker—known as the College Soccer Guy—offers practical guidance for youth soccer players seeking college recruitment. He contrasts showcases with ID camps, arguing that showcases carry more weight because coaches trust the level of competition. He stresses the importance of full‑game video with timestamps when in‑person exposure is limited, noting that Division I programs rarely recruit solely from video unless the player comes from a renowned academy or national team. He shares three illustrative cases: a player being recruited by San Francisco State (Division II), a U‑20 Bolivian national‑team player, and an ECNL Regional Player of the Year. For each, he outlines tactics such as sending detailed video, arranging trials, phone calls, and leveraging academic applications. He concludes with a call‑to‑action, inviting viewers to use the link in his bio for personalized recruiting assistance.

One of my students is talking with San Francisco State, Division II. Pretty fantastic. Story time with College Soccer Guy. I hope you play college soccer. Story time. Have you guys seen that Vine? It's hilarious. Weeks ago during the fall season, wished him good luck. They developed a relationship. Turns out their coaches know each other. I mean, that coach knows his club coach, so they have a really good relationship kind of already, but they need to see him more in person. To see him more in person, what that requires of course is showcases and ID camps. ID camps are great, but they're really not, in my opinion, the best because you're playing against a bunch of nobodies and the coaches are like, well, you did really great, but it was against a bunch of nobodies. So showcases are really where the coaches go, hey, I've recruited players from this team, from this level. I know they can play at my level. So that's why showcase is so important. Now here's the bummer for this player. It's really sad. Unfortunately, my team does not participate at Surf Cup. So what is this player going to do? Like, is he not going to be able to get recruited? He's got the college soccer guy, so I'm gonna help him and I'm gonna make sure he gets recruited. If you guys ever meet me in person, I'm not really like quite that animated, but that was pretty good acting, I think. In this scenario, what we need to do is we have to say, would it be okay to send a full game video with timestamps of each time I touch the ball? We still want to get recruited, and there's another thing we can do as well, which is there are other showcases that we can find out. But the full game video is key because there's a chance we're not going to have the opportunity to play in front of them and Very few coaches will commit to you without seeing you in person at some point. So because of that, there's— you need more video, more videos, so that way if you cannot play in front of them in person, maybe there is enough video that can be done. It is rare that in my experience that a Division 1 school has ever taken a player on video alone unless they're coming from a really reputable academy abroad or they're playing for the national team. Otherwise, and I'll tell you another brief story, I have a student, U20 Bolivian national team, he's a baller. He still needs to be seen in person and he plays for the national team. He's going to play against Argentina and Uruguay in this winter and he still needs to be seen in person. Meaning that if you're competing with those level players, and this particular player is ECNL RL Region Player of the Year for his team and was voted MVP by his club, and that's a big deal, he's a really good soccer player, he's, and now he's playing ECNL. So my point is We gotta figure out a way to still get you recruited even if they're not gonna see you in person. And one of the better ways to do that is full game video, but then also figuring out how do we phrase this email to still get an opportunity. Maybe we set up a trial, maybe we set up a phone call so they can gauge interest, maybe the student applies to school and gets in academically. We gotta figure out the situation that's best for him and maybe best for you or best for her. So if you need help with this process, let me know. Calls Me In's the link in the bio. I know it's complicated. Thanks for listening to my story time. I'm the Call Sucker. I help you play Call of Duty. Link in bio.
